"One day... I will rearrange the stars for you and paint the sky every shade of blue..."

Those were the last words that Avari had been able to push out of her little throat before watching his eyes turn a void shade of chocolate and his body tint in gray. Her mind wandered back to the days not long ago when the young couple would spend all the time they could muster together attempting to discover new ways to blend abstract children of the brain onto canvases and photographs. Her forever love was a photographer of sorts. He had always been creating what was to be the next 'Big Thing' using his vintage camera dusted in rust and photo-manipulation through a variety of art programs while she on the opposite spectrum had her whole soul captivated in the brush of wet paints hitting the canvas in a blur of brilliant colors. Today Avari was left to wander aimlessly in the everyday cycle of society covering up the sounds of her sorrow with soft spoken music as she trudged through her days in an avoidance to speak to those around her. She took up a job of mediocrity giving up on her set of paints altogether the moment his life ended but she never let go of her clutch on that hope that by some miraculous turn of events he would return through the threshold of her little artist loft and transform her world into a canvas once more.

Avari's love for paint had begun to blossom at a tiny age in time and it was a hobby well nurtured by her family and neighbors in the small town of which she resided. Paper, walls, driveways, textbooks, doors, and anything else that was seen as a suitable canvas in her eyes fell victim to her drawing needs. By the time she had grown from a young toddler with her stubby crayon permanently attached to her hand to a young lady hair jammed full of pencils, pens, and paintbrushes she was very well known throughout her small town for the charismatic pictures that she produced. Townspeople often gathered themselves around her family's ranch styled home to ask the small girl for her assistance in bringing their mind's images to life. As time in her town began to dwindle and she started to think about colleges more and more people began to commission her in hopes that they would be left with something amazing to remember the young girl by. In the end Avari had only managed to finish off a few of those endearing requests before she overstuffed her bags with paint splattered clothing and began the lonesome journey to a big city of which she would attend a rather prestigious art school. Her little body had been frittering with excitement as a new found eagerness to follow her dreams emerged through the sensation of a new start of which the college had to offer. This passion that she had felt towards art allowed her to devote every spare second to her works and by the end of her first semester in this college she had impressed many of her professors and surpassed the majority of her elder classmates. Often keeping to herself with fears of stepping on others feet or being a nuisance she had become a student admired as well as envied from afar by many of the classmates who had the pleasure of taking a peak at her as she worked.

Just a year into her schooling Avari met him. She was awestruck when she first laid her eyes on him, but with shyness she tried not to stare. She was overcome with curiosity and the urge to know who he was. While she never expected to be given the chance to acquaint herself with her newfound crush it just so happened that fate decided it was time to give her hardworking soul a blessed little break in this world. As she had done almost every night since she had begun her schooling in the college Avari could be found on the rooftop of the art studio, painting in only the light of the moon and sparkle of each faraway star. For hours she'd been working on her latest piece, it was a personal work oh heavens no would she ever attempt to do a school project in a place without the light of the day. The shushed music danced its way through the earbuds of her headphones and right into her ears, all she could feel was the melody of the song and the motion of paint hitting the canvas material before her.

For about ten minutes before she actually turned around Avari had that strange feeling she was being watched. Well when she did check up on it and saw the flash of chocolate eyes peering at her beneath strands of onyx Avari's whole head snapped right back to the canvas face quickly gaining in heat. A shaky breath or two later and the young artist sent a rather shy glance his way in hopes to realize he had just been passing through. The look did nothing to settle her nerves but everything to set her heart a flight as he pushed himself off of the fence surrounding the edge of the roof and made his way over to her, "Hey." His rich baritone voice rung out into the cool night air and Avari couldn't breathe anymore.

By the time that night had come to an end a whole new chapter of her life was starting to unfold. At first it was just those random instances where they would find themselves in the same place at the same time, normally at the studio or maybe walking from class to class. It quickly led to much more intentional meetings for coffee or the occasional meal. Avari became completely entranced by him, falling love for something other than her own art for the first time in her life. She grew to want that feeling more and more as they continued to spend time with one another.

One date in particular might have set her up in all of this mess. It was a cool autumn night when-

He pulled me up the hill with this goofy grin upon his face. "Why are you smiling so much?" I laugh looking at him. He didn't tell me where we were going just that it would be somewhere fantabulous. Gayest word I've ever heard a guy say but I love him for it.

Suddenly we're at the top of the hill and he pulls me down to the ground. At first I thought he tripped or something, but instead of getting up he lays back and looks at me with a pat on the ground, silently asking for me to do the same thing. With a shake of my head I lay back and look over at him. Why are we here again? "What are we d-" He pushes his hand up against my mouth to silence the words and tilts my head so it faces upwards. The stars. They twinkle in the night sky like a million beaming lights. The sky itself is a vibrant blue that makes my heart melt. Every shade in the sky is just breathtaking and I wish I could capture this scene before me in my mind forever. As he feels my body relax the hand moves from my mouth and weaves itself into my own hand, lacing fingers to become one.

"Isn't it beautiful?" his voice is a soft, husky thing that seems to just swirl into the scenery. Like he belongs there. I want to say yes, I really do but the sight just takes my breath away and I'm afraid if I attempt to speak my voice will only murder the beauty in front of me. There isn't a chance that my voice could mingle so perfectly with the stars like his does. So instead I just nod my head, not even sure if he looked over and saw it. Doesn't matter he understands that I would agree with him.

I've never actually seen so many stars now that you think about it. There are more stars here than dorm lights on at this time of night, which is a lot. Up here on the hill I feel so disconnected from the world, but at the same time I'm closer to it. I'm with him and that is all that matters. It's all that will ever matter and when I look over at him his chocolate eyes staring softly into my own, "Your eyes Avari, they shine just like the night sky," I knew, I just knew, this is what it was like to be in love. I was in love, helplessly and completely in love. I would never want this feeling to leave. There would never be a day that I would look at him and not feel the magic that was this.

Even today that date holds a very special place in her heart. Maybe her most thought of memory and if given the chance she might have stayed in that one night for the rest of her life, staring at the stars and thinking of him.

Days flipped by and then went the months and three years into her schooling, they'd been serious for about two yet they were already engaged. The wedding date was set to be the month following her graduation, as he was a year older than her and was on the brink of his own graduation. She wore her engagement ring everywhere she went only taking it off to shower or do dishes.

It was one night that she had awoken earlier than was the norm and she knew there was no possible way that she could have laid there for the hours until he woke up himself. So carefully she pulled back the covers from her side of the bed and slipped out onto the cold wooden floor. With a backward glance at her love a smile pulled upon her face and she decided that what she would really like to do was draw a picture of her little angel. So in the end she did just that.

In the living room of the little flat Avari pulled out a blank canvas setting it down on her lightly stained easel. Then thumbing through all of the brushes in her art supplies bucket she quickly plucked out her favorite brush, one he had given her as his first present. She placed herself upon the loveseat in the living room with the paints and easel in front of her and began to move the brush in graceful strokes across the page. Soon enough she found her working rhythm and the strokes flew knowingly across the canvas. Hours moved by and she grew into an artistic trance. A dab of red, splash of brown, some blue here, green there. Finally she felt complete, satisfied that her piece was finished and she set down her paintbrush before getting up. Sweat had begun to dabble onto her forehead and she wiped it away with her sleeve glancing over at the easel in front of her. Eyes widened and breath held itself in a sharp gasp.

Her whole body began to shake at the violent image displayed so vividly against the once blank canvas. The body was mauled to pieces, guts spilling out the body chocking the figure so dissembled that it couldn't be identified anymore. His eyes leaked blood and claw marks covered devoured him whole. There was no beauty or glory in this picture and she felt her knees grow weak along with the strong belief that she was going to vomit. She couldn't understand what she had drawn or why she had drawn it. Up close the picture had appeared beautiful and full of love. Not now.

She would throw it away. Rip the canvas to shreds and pretend to have never drawn that grotesque image of him. Avari would start with a blank canvas. A blank canvas, yes but first she needed some coffee badly.

With slow, shaky steps Avari made her way into the kitchen and started the coffee pot to brew. When he awoke he would like that. Watching the pot with an abnormal impatience she waited until the coffee came out in slow drips and the pot stopped brewing altogether. Unsteady hands pulled out a mug and poured a cup full for herself, the coffee missing partway and splashing her hand at one point which forced a hiss out of her mouth. She took a long sip of the strong liquid, wrinkling her nose because she was so unused to the concept of coffee without all the creams. Then setting down her drained cup she let out a calmed sigh, walking back to the bedroom. A scream pierced the air and she was fearful to realize it was her own.

At the sound his eyes fluttered open, red orbs pooling out blood before fluttering closed once again. Avari ran to her love and began to shake him, "Please this is just a dream. Don't-please!" she sobbed hands pressing into a nasty claw mark that covered the length of his arm.

"A-Avari?" he called out to her, "P-promise me that, that th-"

Through her tears she nodded, a snotty sniffle running through her, "One day I-I will r-rearrange the stars for y-you and paint the sky, eve-every shade of blu-ooh." She sobbed out and then her life turned to a blank canvas. Void of love, life, and art.

Since then her life has become a blur of absolutely nothing. There is no passion left in for aura, nothing burning bright in her soul. She knew deep inside herself that he brought out the very best that was in her and with him gone she was as well. For the years following that morning she spent hours on end every day in an art studio with a blank canvas in front of her and her favorite brush in hand, but nothing came to life with the paints.

Wishful thinking still clutches hard onto her heart hoping that one day her spark will come back, her love will surprise her and come home.

And with both eyes of blue trained onto the blank canvas in front of her a close listen will tell her tale. "One day," she breathes before the brush falls from her hand and the red paint splashes across the floor.
