Monica is a 30 something year old chef. She lives in New York state with her husband Chandler, but for many years lived in NYC with her best friends Rachel Green. Monica has always battled with her weight, as a teenager she was overweight and was often teased because of that, but her best friend Rachel, who was the popular one in class never saw her as an overweight nerd, but a true friend. As the age of about 16, Monica shed all her weight to try and make Chandler, a friend of her brother Ross jealous when she overheard him calling her "fat sister".Monica was a chef at a restaurant called Iridium. She lived in Greenwich Village in an apartment which she sublet from her grandmother. Initially, she shared the apartment with Phoebe, who moved out after she became concerned that her friendship with Monica would be strained due to Monica's obsessive need to be clean. When her old friend Rachel arrived at Central Perk after running out on her wedding, Monica allowed Rachel to stay with her.Monica went through a few breakup's, most notably with Richard Burke, an old family friend. Even though Richard was 21 years her senior, she quickly fell in love with him. But her love life took a new turn, when attending her brother's wedding in London, she slept with her brother's best mate and her long time neighbour across the hall, Chandler, the same Chandler that called her fat when they we're teenagers. Since that night, the two tried to keep their relationship a secret, until one disastrous day, when all found out, except her brother Ross, who saw them making out, when looking at new apartments, at an apartment block close to his sisters. The two got married in a beautiful ceremony, and have tried to get pregnant ever-since, unsuccessfully. The two started their search for an adoptive child, and one day, after a heart warming plea by Chandler to the child's mother we're given the great news that they were chosen as the adoptive parents, what they didn't know was that the mother was pregnant with twins, Erica and Jack. Monica and Chandler decided to leave the city and buy a house in the suburbs to raise their children, much to the dismay of their friends.
