I was a star fallen to earth and he caught me. Do you know if you catch a falling star you get your heart's desire? Not a wish, anyone can make a wish on a star but the very deepest desire of your heart. Something you may not even know you want, that strange ache in your soul that pains you in the night when all is quiet and dark.
The stars know that desire. But you have to catch us for it to be granted. And he caught me. The moment I looked up into the eyes of the one who held me I knew. His deepest desire was love. So I bathed him in my warm, shining radiance. I shined for him then and him alone. I still do even since they hung me back in the night sky, forever parted from my lover. But that's a sad story and I don't like to tell sad stories.
Sometimes I look down toward the earth and I smile because I can see him out there, on his little hilltop with his eyes seeking upwards to me. He's gaunter now, his hair greasy and patchy and inside him his poor bones are weary from the long years. But he's still mine and I'm still his and all that distance between us doesn't matter when our gazes meet in the night. I can cross infinity in that moment. I can spend eternity there. I can ride the night until the sun chases me upwards beyond sight with only just one thought in mind and the thought is this.
"Not even death can part us, I will wait until all the stars burn out but you. And then we'll be together again."
