History:
Although highly intelligent and competent in the wizarding world, young Severus Snape's childhood was far from happy. Not only was he subject to humiliation and practical jokes at the hands of the infamous Marauders, but his life at home was ridden with pain and abuse, both emotional and physical. His one true friend through these dark times, his one glimmer of hope, had been the beautiful and equally-intelligent Lily Evans, for whom he had harbored feelings for years.

Yet like all good things, the friendship between young Severus and the beautiful Lily Evans did not last; on that one fateful day at the end of his 5th year, Severus uttered a single, unforgivable word that marked the end of his friendship with Lily forever: mudblood. It seemed that once Lily left him, his life spiraled out of control. The one girl he had loved--and quite possibly the only person he had ever loved ended up dating (and later marrying) his greatest rival, James Potter. The years after Hogwarts were no easier for the Half-Blood Prince: alone in the world and without anyone to support him, young Severus entered the service of the Dark Lord and joined his band of Death Eaters.

At first, being amid the Death Eaters seemed almost tolerable; after all, they had been the only people who seemed to accept him. Or at least they acted as if they accepted Severus, making it seem almost as if he had the one thing that had been denied to him his entire life: friends. Little did young Severus know, however, that by relying a single prophecy to the Dark Lord, that he would be sentencing the only woman he had ever loved to death...
