It’s been 3 weeks since I got onboard the ship and my stomach is just starting to get used to it. What was it the Captain called me the first day... a “Landlubber� I suppose it’s true. I think I’m getting better, they had me cleaning out the monkeys today, and for once I didn’t get powder all over the deck. Although I did manage to get quite a bit on myself.
Captain gave me a scarf, blue silk and gold embroidery, to cover one of my eyes, he said he might be able to find me some dark glasses...
So much trouble to cover them up.
His son gave me this book as well, gifts for improving they said, more like gift of pity. Not that I mind, they are both lovely. They have found a name for me, I shall be called Ruka, much more interesting then my real name. I see it as a great improvement, new name, new life.
I have dirt under my nails! Dirt! Father would die if he could see me now, my hair in knots, dressed in rags. But it’s so open out here, no corsets, no masks, no need to hide unless we are in town, or aboard another ship. It doesn’t happen often enough for me to worry. I’m free, and safe.

We landed at port today, I was allowed to go ashore with Captain, Jack and Peter. I had to keep my eyes down, I wore the scarf, I can still see through it, so it wasn’t much of a bother, although I swore someone looked at me strangely. It’s not unlikely that new of my escape has traveled this far, if father has even told anyone I’ve left. How embarrassing it must be for him now, his only daughter run away at 17!
Not that I was known as anything other then Treasure eyes to him. A captive, a trophy, no one but our family could see me, and even they turned out to be untrustworthy. Pity no seems to be able to remember the map, father tried, for hours making me stand there without blinking. But he would still get it wrong.
Even I would like to know where it leads.
