I wanna break every clock. The hands of time could never move again. We could stay in this momentFor the rest of our lives. Is it over now...Is it over now?

Staring was the only thing he could bring himself to do. If he did anything more, the pain would destroy him. So he didn't. He just stood there, and stared, and stared until his eyes were so dry he could hardly blink. And Dolce stared back, just as lifeless. They were both trembling, but neither of them took any notice. Why would it matter that they were shaking? It didn't. It wouldn't. Emerald eyes locked onto yellow and green. Dolce's long ebony hair was pulled back into a pony tail that hung loose over his shoulder. He was still elegant, even in this state, but then again, he always was. His clothes were worn and dirtied from hours of independent play in the back garden while Roku sat on the windowsill in their room and read tales he was already smart enough to judge as impossible. There were dried tear streaks down his cheeks and the dirt was smeared across his face from hastily trying to wipe the emotions away. Dolce never cried; Roku couldn't remember ever seeing or hearing him cry, even when they were toddlers. Dolce was...he was the greatest person he knew. He was the strongest, bravest, gentlest, and the smartest. Even smarter than himself. He couldn't believe it was even happening. Why was it Dolce? Why wasn't it Roku? Why were their parents so cold-hearted towards his brother? He had done nothing to deserve this. Nothing at all. Roku's eyes started to sting. His hands clenched into fists, his long fingernails digging into his palms.

"Brother..." He started, finally breaking eye contact with Dolce, instead fixing his eyes on his own shoeless feet. Dolce sighed lightly, stopping Roku before he could continue.

"Don't. Please. I don't want to hear it." Dolce took hold of the ribbon holding his hair together, and untied it, his hair falling gracefully down his back. He gently took his twin brother's wrist, making him unclench his fist, and tied the ribbon around his wrist. "There's nothing that can be done. It's set in stone, we can't change this."

Roku couldn't hold back the flood of tears anymore. "Dolce!" He yelled, exasperated, grabbing onto the front of his brother's ragged vest, shaking him. "You can't let them do this! It's not fair! It isn't fair! You can't let them take you, you can't! You can't leave me!" He fell against Dolce's chest, sobbing hysterically, his mind going fuzzy from all of the panicked thoughts contained within it. He felt strong arms wrap around him, fingers gently running through his hair.

"Shh, RoRo." Roku's body became less tense at the sound of his nickname, and that made Dolce grin slightly. "If I try to resist, they'll do away with me. What use is a dead servant? Don't worry, brother, this isn't the last time you'll see me. I promise. In seven years, the day we turn 18, they can't keep me any longer, and I'll come back for you."

Roku looked up through his ruffled hair, his eyes bloodshot and brimming with tears. "You'll come back? You promise?"

"Of course, I promise."

And then, in what seemed like seconds, Dolce, Roku's other half, his sole purpose, was being dragged down their driveway, his hands tied behind his back, by a heavily muscled, scarred, intimidating man. Roku sat, and stared out the window, his eyes fixed on that same spot for days.

It was going to be a long seven years.
