Born in a barn, Thistleberry spent the first few months of her life with many, many other dogs. Being one of the youngest, Thistle and her littermates were at the lowest rung of the doggie hierarchy. Making Thistleberry very shy and submissive, but there was always lots of puppies to play with. Even though Thistle didn't know very many people, one would bring food in sometimes. Everyone called them Food Person.
One day, a bunch of people came in and talked a long while with Food Person, Food Person seemed very upset. After some more yelling, everyone left. Thistleberry was amazed at how many people there had been! It was scary and exciting.A few day later, some more people came with big cages and Food Person yelled lots as all the doggies and Thistleberry were rounded up. It was very scary, even though the people made nice voices and gave yummy things.
Soon Thistleberry and all her friends were getting looked at, touched and pricked by lots of people in bright places. The people made nice voices and put all the doggies in new metal cages. Food was served everyday and she didn't even have to share! It soon was less scary as more people petted and fed Thistle. She began to like people a lot! Though everyday, less doggies she knew could be smelled or heard.
A little while later, Thistle was on the move again, this time to a far away land called West Virginia, where she lived with something called a foster, and she called herself Mama Pat. Mama Pat had lots of doggies too, but they never stayed long.
Only Lucas and Crystal stayed. Lucas was big, he was the boss, he guarded all the puppies and dogs, and let them climb all over him. Crystal was everyone's mama and licked everyone clean. Mama Pat liked to feed Thistle from her own people plate and laughed lots.It wasn't long until Mama Pat told Thistle that a nice couple were coming to get her. For a forever home. Thistle didn't know what that meant, but she was excited and scared again, she liked Mama Pat. So the night that the people were coming, Thistle let all the dogs out and ran around. Except Lucas wouldn't let her leave the front yard! When Mama Pat got home, she had three new smells with her. A new doggie, a big man, and a small lady.
The Big man and Small lady gushed and loved on Thistle and she was scared at first, but she loved the rubs. They stayed and played for a long time, talking, laughing and playing with Thistle and all of the puppies. When the night got late, the small lady picked up Thistle and cuddled her and said, "Wanna go for a ride? Wanna meet your brother?"
Now Thistle lives with the big man and small lady. Her brother died a few months ago, but he visits sometimes.
