Too many secrets to count rest in my hand, and they're all starting to unravel. Will I ever be trusted to continue this journey?
Hawa rested her fingers on her forehead, giving in. She knew she wouldn't be able to sort through anyone's thoughts, including her own. They said 'mind reading' as such an easy thing always. However it proved that peoples' minds were definitely not books, much less easy to sort through. To learn to master such a thing was not seeming so much possible anymore. Her teacher, Lethe, told her to regard it as a string of conscious and unconscious thought that was all tangled up. In her successful attempts Hawa had found so many varieties of thoughts and things that couldn't even be regarded so much as thoughts. There were those mental images that you could remember some details of and some that remained blur, strings of old thought connected to particular things happening in the moment, mindless ideas, dreams that were the most unclear and had to be really dug for. Unconscious thought was the hardest to gather, they were things that were in the back of the mind since the beginning while conscious thoughts had been things that actually somewhat clearly passed through their minds at one time. Or perhaps all at once. It was hard to judge. Especially with everyone's mind being so different, there was no telling what you should expect. There were things that just scarred you, and there were things that reflected so well that you wanted to leave your reality and emerge yourself into them. Most often it was neither, and something that would just as easily set into the bottom of your own mind. There was one thought that had always puzzled Hawa. She had come across it in a random immersion in Lethe's own thoughts. It had come to Hawa as if it floated in front of a wall of particularly guarded pack of thoughts. She was sure though, that Lethe had engulfed the thought for a moment, right out of Hawa's mind. It had spit back however, as if it belonged with Hawa rather than Lethe. What Hawa had understood of the thought ended up being rather clear. It asked how it could work that one particular person could hold so many thoughts in their mind: their own and others'. The encounters with others' would make their's dissolve or the other way around, wouldn't they? It had led Hawa to try and organize through her thoughts, to make them more approachable for herself so she'd be able to actually test the theory that she had gathered from her instructor.
