"I will show you fear in a handful of dust." - T.S. Eliot
A wilting yet courageous Reborn Telenine laid in his bed, sound asleep having nightmares of his previous life before howling took him in. Kicking and sweating, poor Tigrun opened his eyes to a faint but very distinctive light. As he started to come out of his grogginess, he started sniffing the air. Along with the faint yet bright light there was a smell. A smell he hadn't ever come across. He sniffed toward the source of the light and the unfamiliar smell. Once he got to the room, he pushed the ajar door open and felt a burst of heat rush toward him. In front of Tigrun was a blinding large monster of burning light, shades of bright yellow and tinges of orange attacked him as he stood there speechless, paralyzed with shock and fear. He didn't know what to do. What was this creature of immense heat? He didn't know, but what he did know from the smell and the feel, it was dangerous. Turning his head and looking back into the hall that he had just come, Tigrun saw that the dark halls of the house lit up as far as the eye could see. It was in that moment that he knew that this monster was more threatening than he'd initially thought. He saw that the creature was eating the walls, the floor and everything in the room. Tigrun ran down the flaming hall, howling trying to get his owner's attention. When he finally got to her room, he saw the creature creeping into the crevice between the floor and the door. He had to act quickly. He had to break down the door. Tigrun knew that he needed to put all his strength into getting in, so he quickly rushed down the hall, turned sharply back facing her door and then stopped. He took a deep breath and charged with all his might toward the door being slowly consumed by the monster. As his shoulder punched against the door, you could here the weakened wood crack. Pieces and shards of wood fell to the floor and Tigrun stood as tall as he could to see through the rising smoke trying to locate his owner. He started from the window to the opposite wall of the small room. Then when he quickly crept in to get a closer look, he saw her feet on the floor, hiding from his previous line of view. His mind instantly shot to the worse possible thought and terror struck his body, chilling him from head to toe within a moment. Tigrun leaped over the creature consumed bed and onto the window sill next to it. He looked down and saw howling lying on the floor. He rushed to her aid and nudged her to wake up. Again and again nudging her harder but she didn't move. When he realized that she wasn't going to wake up, he looked up and the entire room was enveloped by the bright hot monster. Tigrun knew he had to grab her and get out of the room... but how? The monster was about to attack, and win. He looked up to where he had just leapt from and saw a way out. Hurriedly, he wiggled his way under howling and raised himself off the floor. Carefully and swiftly, he climbed onto the window sill and smacked the glass with all his strength. It was so hot it seared his paw and searing pain raced through his leg. Glass shards everywhere, he rushed through the window, off the ledge and into the bushes, landing harshly on his stomach. He got up off the bark, and made sure howling was still on his back. Tigrun limped over to the sidewalk and howled so loudly the ground shook. As he looked around the neighborhood, lights came on and other owner's and their pets came rushing out of their dark, unlit houses. Tigrun's vision blurred as the others approached. He fell to the ground and everything blacked. In his mind, he thought "Everything is okay now. No need to worry. She and I are safe." As his eyes opened, howling was sitting in front of him smiling. He was confused and groggy but he heard her say, "Tigrun, baby, wake up. What's wrong? You look sad. You must have just had a nightmare. It's okay, I'm here now." Tigrun thought to himself: "Everything is good now, it was all just a nightmare...." There was nothing to be afraid of anymore. He had been reborn again when howling adopted him.
