People always think that sensuality is to do with the more ... shall we say ... adult pleasures of life. But while they are certainly included in that realm, they miss out on the range of pleasure that is from other senses or experiences. Sensuality as a word comes from the senses.

While all of those can be indulged in the adult arena, if that's the only place we indulge, then we're missing out on so much more! There can be sensuality to eating a delicious meal or a craved sweet; or hearing your favourite music or hearing a baby giggle; or seeing gorgeous art or an adorable pet frolicking; or smelling fresh cooked bread, or rain on dry ground; or even the touch of fresh sheets after a long day and a warm shower.

All of these things can be sensual delights, and in fact usually are, but you need to appreciate them as such. When you experience these with the thought of indulging the senses with pleasure, you find that the items themselves become more luxurious to the touch, taste, sight, hearing, and smell. Take the time to focus on that feeling. To be in the moment of what you are experiencing.

So the next time you put on some comfy clothing, be it silk, satin, soft cotton, cashmere, or the modern super soft pile polyester, take the time to feel it against your skin. To rub your hands over the soft fabric. To bring it to your face where perhaps the detergents used upon it will smell beautiful and fresh as you close your eyes and just inhale and feel. Be in the moment where your senses surround you with luxury that feels so good.

Or perhaps it will be sharing a charcuterie board with close friends, where the taste, smell, and texture of the food is sublime, while you delight in the sight and sounds of your loved ones. Hugging them or just touching their arm. If they live far away you may not have the touch aspect but all the others are possible with modern computers.

The point is, that to live with an awareness of sensuality will add pleasure to your life. You don't have to run after one experience to another for huge amounts of pleasure. You can experience and enjoy it in everyday life, once you make the choice to not only be aware of it, but to bring items into your life that will enhance it. Buying that softer nightgown, or the better food. It may cost more but you don't need a lot of it to indulge. Buying one high quality item is worth more than 10 inferior ones. Save up to buy one thing, then focus on the next. Perhaps one super soft stuffed toy to touch and cuddle (with a spray of perfume)! Or perhaps one soft handkerchief. Make sure your clothing and bedsheets are wonderful as they are against our skin a lot of our lives. Buy the better quality coffee/tea/hot chocolate and appreciate each sip. Find out what sense you especially love to indulge and cater just to that one at first.

Sensuality is a private pleasure you can surround yourself with. It takes awareness and patience. Sometimes we forget to look for the luxury in our everyday lives. It's there, or can be there. Just make sure to appreciate and luxuriate in it like a cat in catnip when it is there.
