Val is very much a product of the times. When he was first created, smiting has been much more important than the "love and peace" message that angels later came to stand for. Behind Michael (possibly), Val was the most gleeful practitioner of divine wrath and got himself stationed to Earth almost exclusively so that he could run around and beat the tar out of the demons trying to tempt the humans living there. However, as time passed Angelic duties slowly migrated from fighting off their fallen brethren to spreading happiness and goodwill.

Val did not take the change well.

He tried, of course. He learned to smile and be pleasant around everyone, attended seminars for anger management, and hid away all of his sharp, pointy weapons so that he wouldn't be tempted to use them. He even took up baking to curb his more violent impulses, which he found he both enjoyed and was good at. And yet, despite all of the careful practice and patience, there's a proverbial bomb ticking just beneath the surface.



Val is one big ball of cynicism and repression. He naturally has an extremely short fuse, but as an angel he is expected to be kind and merciful. Although he has done his best to force himself into that mold, he is still always one misplaced comment from breaking out the holy smiting.

Although he isn't successful in tramping down all of his more... passionate behavior, Val has had some success in channeling the worse of his more violent impulses. He loves to bake and almost always has cookies of some sort around his place of residence. He also gets very into sports, though he has to watch them at home so that he's not tempted to get into a fistfight with any humans.

Despite his temper, Val does have his sweet moments. He genuinely does like humanity, and he's rather protective on the humans, angels, and other friends he's made over the years. In particular, he's a bit of a mother hen toward his subordinate, the lesser angel Hanael.
