It was the year 2020 and the world they lived in was in chaos. After the cataclysmic earthquake wiped out the whole human race, a virulent disease spread turning the dead into the undead. Now they covered every inch of it. Helena had not become what she was by choice, it was something that was forced on her. She never wanted to be a vampire, but now she felt it was the only way she would survive. Sired just days after her 23rd birthday, her transformation had been painful at best. Although, she had her cravings under control, she had been a monster in the initial stages. She'd lost everyone she'd loved. Her friends and most of all her family. The worldwide disaster did not help much. It just forced the realization that she was actually even more alone than before.
Being a monster was one part , but Helena tried to regain her humanness. She figured she might be alone but she was not like the undead around her. They did not care. They had no feelings. They were something else. As more and more humans began disappearing and the infestation increased, she went underground and during nights went on hunts killing them. She knew that by herself she would not achieve much and at times she felt as helpless as ever. But maybe it would go a little way to make things better.
She had heard about the Resistance but only in whispers among the few Vampires that roamed around but she hardly made friends with any of them. "Do not get attached" that was her golden rule to live by. But she knew that in order to accomplish a greater goal. In order to have freedom, she would have to find them.
