Luthor is the leader and brains behind the criminal gang of public enemies known by the media as the "fierce four." As such, he spends most of his time making sure his conglomeration of connections and bribed officials keep them all from being killed or thrown in jail. He has a cold and intimidating exterior, but at heart he really does care for the people around him, and those lucky enough to be on his good side are always well rewarded.

As a child, Luthor was raised by a single mother in poverty on the streets of Russia. The first things he ever learned were the arts of begging and picking pockets. It wasn't until he was a teenager that he gave into the pressures and dangers of life in the mafia. It was in service of the bratva that he killed for the first time. The experience made him cynical, and once he had his payment he fled with his mother to the promised glory of America.

In America, Luthor quickly found himself a quiet job as a janitor for an investment broker. He had no formal education, so it was the best he could do for an honest living. Meanwhile, his aging mother fell ill, and when they could no longer afford the hospital bills, she passed away. He decided right then and there that an honest living simply wouldn't do. If you wanted to live, you needed money, and he knew how to get it.

The broker Luthor worked for had only one person assigned to look over the books and make sure all the money got to where it was supposed to be going. His name was Alonzo. He was an Italian boy who barely spoke a word of English but was gifted with numbers. Luthor had picked up English within months of living in America, and decided some language lessons might help form a bond between the two he could later exploit.

After many late nights pouring over an old grammar textbook bought from a pawn shop, the two did strike up a bond. But the more Luthor got to know Alonzo, the more he realized they were in the same boat. Both were orphans, just trying to make it in the new world. When Luthor suggested a way to make them both a little richer at the expense of their employer, he expected Alonzo to object, but to his surprise the boy was eager to try. It was the beginning of their partnership in crime.

After moving on and moving up, from money laundering to elaborate burglary and counterfeiting, much richer and wiser in the world of cons, the two found themselves in a bank heist involving two others: a Bonnie and Clyde style couple from Chicago. They were experienced, but a little too trigger happy, and when the job went south, Luthor and Alonzo found themselves stuck with them. A photographer at the scene that day took photos of the four of them together, and would later be the first to call them the "fierce four."

It's a tough job, but for them, crime does pay. Big time. And the fame? Just a bonus. Luthor would never admit it, but he loves that aspect of their little enterprise most of all.
