The fear of dying was more dangerous then the fall itself. For a demon, this fall would only lead to a few broken bones, nothing that wouldn't heal in a few days. If he were a true demon, this wouldn't scare him at all. He had been burned by something that would naturally energize a demon. What was he? All his life he had been told he was a living and breathing fighting machine. What if it was a lie? What if everything he had lived for had been for the sake of someone else?

Something in the pit of his stomach was telling him that it was time to fight. He wasn't about to let his savior die at the hands of gravity, itself. There were very few things Alcane would die trying to save. Those were either his pride or someone he knew he needed in his life. Was this mortal really worth saving? Apparently it was because at that moment, Alcane's body emanated a blue-green glow. Trendon, his savior had closed his eyes so tightly that he didn't realize something change with his ally. He didn't even realize that when they landed in a field of flowers, that none of his bones or even his soul had been shattered. In fact, he didn't feel any form of pain at all.

When Trey opened his eyes, everything was blurry. The sunlight was so harsh that he had to squint in order to adjust his vision. The area he was in seemed almost like a garden; there were plants of many types, both colorful and elegant, and even huge, towering trees. Trey felt like he was in an oasis of ambiance.

Trey's thoughts slowly started to come back to him. He remembered jumping through the window and plummeting, but never landing. In fact, shouldn't there be pain in his body from the fall? Wait, wasn't there someone else with him? Had they been killed? Then it hit him. Where was Alcane? With him in mind, Trey sprung up to his feet and looked around. Nothing. No one was in sight. It was just flowers and grass. He started to pursue the one reason he had wanted to open his eyes once more.

......

Everything smelled like fresh flowers from the garden shop, only he couldn't see their colorful petals. Everything was black. From his neck down, his body felt like a broken piano. In fact, he could barely move his feet. Who am I? he asked himself. His eyes fluttered open, and started to sting. The light was harsh. He felt like someone had shone a flashlight right before his eyes, and tried to blind him.

He could hear humming. It seemed almost too close. Using his arms as a balance, he lifted his weak body up slowly. Every muscle was screaming at him to stop, but every inch of his heart was telling him to keep going. Alec coughed again, and started to look around. Even though his vision was still slightly blurred, he could make out that he was in a garden of some sort. It was colorful, except for the rotting tree trunk a few feet away. Lilacs, carnations, roses, and even marigolds were plastered all over the bushes surrounding him. Even the huge tree behind him had pink flowers blooming. It was a little girl's paradise.

What happened to me? He asked himself when he lifted his arms up to take a closer inspection at the damage done to him back in the lab. He remembered being thrown against a wall, and hit in the head with something really dense, except he didn't know what it was. His world had been spinning, and when he awoke, Sethus had entered the chamber, probably to torture him again. He had seen Trey defend him with that childish whip of his. Why would someone do that when less then a day ago, that same person they were defending had tried to kill them? Then again, Alec had gone easy on him. With a jerk of his blade he could have beheaded him easily, but he didn't. He had pretty much toyed with the boy.

"My my, what have we here?" Came a sinister voice behind Alec. The color from his face started to drain. He recognized this voice. It was all too familiar. "Don't tell me you forgot already?" The voice was almost sarcastic, and even though Alec knew he couldn't move, his body wanted to be as far away as possible. Almost immediately he started to shake. Alec turned his body around slowly only to find that no one was there. Am I loosing it already? He asked himself, sitting up straight.

He attempted to stand by putting all his weight on a big rock, only to fall down again. The pain was so bad, specifically at his ankles. He was hungry, and thirsty, and right on the other side of the bushes, there was a small stream. He had to get to it. Maybe the water would soothe the pain in his ankles?

Alec, for a second time, tried to stand once more. He was more successful then the last, and using a large stick he had found, he leaned all his weight down and limped towards the stream. The garden ground was really mushy from rain they had to of gotten a night before, and his boots started to get stuck constantly. Alec started to think that every possible problem could arise and cause his body more pain. He was starting to get extremely irritated.

"Almost there." He said to himself in a weak voice. "Soon you'll be able to rest." Of course he was starting to talk to his feet. If anyone else had been around, they would have assumed he was mad. When he neared the final tree that signaled the end of the garden, he started to speed up. Little did he know that right after the tree was a drop into the water.

Within moments, he was plummeting into the water, 8 feet below his feet. The huge splash stunned all his muscles. The area Alec had fallen into was too shallow so when he landed into the water, a huge rock buffeted his side and twisted his arm. It took his breath away. Memories started to flash before his eyes. No, he didn't think he was going to die, but he knew he was going to be in terrible pain lest he hit something else. Then, darkness set in.

......

"Alcane?!" Someone was screaming to the asleep boy. "Alcane, wake up!" Between someone pushing on his chest, trying to open his lungs, and giving him mouth to mouth, Alec never felt more confused and dizzy. He could breath fine. In fact, he felt more alive then usual, or maybe he was in denial? Gently, Alcane let out a loud groan and coughed up water. He gripped his stomach and looked up at his savior, Trey.

Trey's hands touched Alec's stomach, where he had clenched. Alec immediately winced in pain. Okay, so maybe he was feeling some pain. "What are you doing to me?!" He growled. Trying to sit up, Trey pushed him back down. Alec groaned once more.

"Stop moving!" Trey growled as he poked at the inflamed spot on Alec's belly who started to whimper. "It won't make the pain go away. Why the hell did you jump?!" Alec blinked clearly showing confusion. He kept thinking of the touch of Trey's lips on his, how tender and soft they were. If only he had stayed quiet and didn't move. Then he would have had more locked time with him.

He remembered running, but never the descent. Had he been so out of it that he did it without thinking? Alec watched as Trey took a knife out of Alec's pants. He looked at Alec closely, and gave him a reassuring glance before the blade pierced his skin. The skin on his torso was bruised, and it was obvious that he had broken a rib or two. Alec shrieked in pain, but he didn't move. He knew if he did, the blade would slice more then necessary. Trey tried to soothe him with his calm words, saying that everything was going to be okay, and that it was going to be over shortly, but it didn't really work. Instead, Alec passed out. Trey sighed, but continued to work on the damaged appendage.

"Alec, you can open your eyes now." Trey coed as he gently shook Alec's shoulders. His voice, both calm and gentle stayed in the air long enough for Alec to finally open his eyes. "There you are. How are you feeling?" Groggily, Alec wiped his eyes. His stomach was starting to ache once more.

He groaned, "Ughh, my stomach." Trying to sit up, Trey pushed him back down. He motioned towards the wound on Alec's belly. Alec knew he was going to be out of commission for a long time. Trey went to the lagoon, and filled up a make-shift bowl with it's crystal content.

"Alec," Trey began. "you need to lay down for awhile. You're really wounded. Don't be stubborn, and just listen to me when I tell you that if you move too much, you'll rip the wound right back open." Alec looked at him in defeat. Bingo. The undefeated champion was coaxed.

For the next few days, Alec drank from the springs. Trey helped him wash up to keep his wounds clean. It was a painful process, but overall Alec was feeling much better. The area was completely unknown to him. He had never seen it before but part of him wanted to say he had. It had a sort of familiar feeling to it.

Alec laid next to Trey one morning. He had enjoyed the view of the sleeping boy quite a bit since they had grown closer. When Trey finally opened his eyes, amusement hit Alec since he knew the boy was probably just as confused as he was. What were they doing? From being enemies to now much more, it was obvious that something was attracting the two opposites to each other.

He looked closer at Trey, and leaned in. All he wanted was to see how it felt to actually kiss someone. Never in his life had he really experienced physical affection, besides the occasional lusting which he didn't have at all. He didn't have anything to regret either anymore. Somehow he knew he wasn't going to return back to the Entertainment Hall. What was he to live for now? Leaning in closer, he gently placed a kiss on Trey's lips. Trey, blushing almost immediately, returned it and wrapped his arms around his shoulders. It was an awkward feeling for the both of them since neither had ever kissed the same sex before, but at the same time, it was sweet and harmless. Trey deepened the kiss by adding tongue and almost immediately, they broke into a kissing frenzy. When they finally parted, Alec smiled warmly. Trey had never expected to have him be so friendly. Cloud had been completely wrong. He was a good person.

Trey asked, "What's wrong?" Alec closed his eyes and leaned against him. There were those days where he didn't want to talk about his problems, and that day was definitely included. Alec kept thinking about Seta. "You're more then what you think you are, but you'll figure that one out on your own." What more could he be?

A rustle in the bushes broke the silence that had followed the question. Trey spun around, almost knocking Alec into the water. Alec turned his head to the side as though trying to listen for more sounds. He heard it again. Alec got up faster then he had in his life, winced in pain, and clutched his stomach. Behind a large bush came the one thing that made Alec wish Trey had actually let him drown, Seta.

......

Seta had always crept Alec out, especially when he met him in Hisan's castle years before. Hisan had summoned him to talk to him about joining the Entertainment Hall, said "There's people like you in there. We could use someone with your strength." Now, Alcane felt moronic for taking his word. He had been worked to the bone, beat, and forced to fight everyone. That was probably the main reason Alec started to disdain others. He became ruthless, and eventually the Champion. It was a good life until loneliness set in.

That's where Seta had come in. Alec had spent the night in the Hall, training himself for a tournament the next day. Seta had arrived at exactly midnight. The area was so dark, and the lighting had been so scarce, that when Alec heard the man clap his hands, he jumped around, flung his blade, and expected a head to drop. Only that didn't happen. In fact, Seta had grabbed hold of the chain, and was holding it tightly. Alec couldn't move his arm at all. Seta's force alone was so strong that Alec felt like he was having a battle with air.

When Seta released the blade, like a shadow, he was behind Alec with a blade to his throat. Panic started to set in, just as Seta had wanted it to, and soon, Alec was pleading. His pursuer was laughing at fearful Alcane. A blade went in one inch, and for every shriek of pain, another laugh. It was turning into a bloodbath, and Alec wanted anything but it to be his. Finally Seta stopped, and put his head to Alec's. His lips brushed against Alec's ears sending chills down his spine.

"Fear is all you'll ever know when the final stages slip into place. I am not to be toyed with, child. No one even as powerful as Lord Hisan could change your path. It is set. You will meet an arduous ending, whether it be physical or mental. Now go. Go fight in those silly tournaments, and prove to yourself you're alive." Like a ghost he was gone. Alec stood there frozen for awhile, contemplating whether to end it there or not.
