Ming looked at the carnage around him. He never thought things would to turn out this way. All he ever wanted was to life in freedom but maybe it just wasn't meant to be. He had sensed the person behind him long before he felt the cold steel of a sword pressing against his back.
»Why did you do this?«, the figure asked.
Ming didn't moved. Not because he was frighted - no. It was because he couldn't stand the asking look of his formed friend.
»I am sorry, Gavin. I always respected you. You are a good fighter and a honest person - for a human being you are a very special person to me. Just like our old master... But you and your sword won't stop me!«
With the tip of the sword still firmly pressed against Ming's back, Gavin shook his head in incomprehension.
»You killed him - why?«
»You are mistaken. I didn't kill our master. I would have never done something like that. I loved him. He was just as a good person as you are. His own son killed him because he was a greedy bastard!«
»So you killed him?«
Ming gave a laugh.
»Maybe I would have done it, if I'd had the opportunity to do so. Sadly I made an oat to protect this house but after all it seems like I wasn't the only person who despised the young lord.«
He pointed at a blood-smeared corpse in a unrecognizable condition.
»Who did this? If you didn't do it, WHO DID THIS?«
The pressure of the sword tip intensified slightly but still not enough to cause any harm.
»I don't know. Their clothes looked outlandish. I think they might be from the western lands. They were very skilled fighters. I only managed to inflict a single serious injury to one of them. They managed to escape but not before killing them all, the guards, the counselors and the young lord. I was too late to be much of a help.«, he answered calmly.
The tip of the sword wavered.
»Give me one reason, why I should believe you.«
Ming snarled.
»Because I'll go to hunt them down for what they did. They did not only kill the ones I did swear fidelity to. They also made the mistake to take the life of my father.«
Gavin remained silent so Ming continued talking.
»They break into our house, killed my father and stole the holy artifact of our clan, the only memento left of our old life in freedom. I am going to search and find them, then I'll eliminate every single involved person and I'll get the artifact back.«
»You can't just go. You are still just a slave.«, Gavin said.
»Maybe, but it's my duty as a warrior of this house to find and kill the people responsible for this act so our lord can rest in peace and you, Gavin, won't stop me from doing so.«
A few heartbeats they both remained silent, until Gavin finally dropped the sword.
»I am sorry for distrusting you.«, he finally said.
Ming turned to look at Gavin and gave a short laugh.
»You were the only human person who ever trusted me at all.«
»You said the clothes looked like they might came from the western lands... That's where I originally came from.«
Ming looked at Gavin. He understood perfectly well how the human in front of him felt. Gavin had left his hometown a long time ago to explore the eastern lands. When he got injured during a battle, the lord admitted him and nursed him back to health. After this incident Gavin had decided to stay at the lords house.
The town of Ming's parents on the other hand got attacked by money-hungry humans right after Ming was born. During the incident Ming's mother went missing but his father managed to survive and protect his son.The surviving Lizardmen were taken captive and got brought to the marketplaces of the humans. Most humans feared the Lizardmen because of their incalculability. So they normally didn't bought them to keep them as slaves but rather to let them fight against each other or their own warriors just to entertain themselves.
But Ming and his father had been lucky. The old lord bought his father and him after he realized, his father was able to write and read the human language.
He made his father his personal clerk and even allowed Ming to become a warrior. Yes, Ming had loved the old lord but his son was different. The young man was cruel and heartless. He despised Ming and his father although Ming never understood why.
But now everything of this seemed to be irrelevant. His father was dead and so was the young lord. The old lord had passed away a few months ago and now Ming was free to do as he pleased but Ming only had one thing in mind - he wanted revenge!
