Dolce: sweet, mild, gentle

That is what they call her because she is sweet like their beloved desserts: their gelato, their panna cotta, their cannoli and so on. She kisses them with peach lips and holds them with cherry fingers, and they adore her, not just because she is sweet but also because they enjoy the dare in her olive eyes, beckoning them to gamble between entertainment and a gun to the head. In public she is the young signorina but privately she laughs at the title for it is so simple, so superficial.

No one addresses her by her real name and she hardly remembers it herself, because there is something so sweet about the irony behind the name Dolce she never bothers with her ordinary birth name. And when it comes down to it, there is nothing so sweet about her. She is ruthless, devastating. She empties her beautifully antique Beretta without even a flutter of her lashes. She cleans up messes without remorse, relishes the deep, deep red.
