The Father brought Lestiel into being shortly after the beginning of World War II. She, along with other angels like her, was created to look over the lonely families torn apart by the conflict. These angels were known as Watchers.

The Observers were not to physically interact nor show themselves to any mortals but simply observe and report back about the overall mental and spiritual condition of their charges. If the young angel felt that the home was becoming unstable they were to report to their superiors who would handle the situation as needed. If this happened the Observer was usually sent off to another family in need.

Years after the war ended and people began to move on with their lives the Observers were called back to Heaven to serve their Lord and Master in the Celestial Court. This was a wondrous privilege and honor and the beings accepted without a second thought.

All except Lestiel.

She had seen too many families, too many children have their hearts broken by the cruelties of the world. The looks on their faces when they were told Daddy wasn't coming home alive or was missing, the loss of a friend over something trivial, or simply a feeling of hopelessness that filled their soul. It all tore her heart to shreds.

Dropping to her knees in front of the Throne she begged her Creator to send her back; to send her back to the little ones in such pain.

The other angels witnessing the spectacle raised their eyebrows and murmured to each other. How could she give up spending eternity in the awesome presence of the Almighty for the imperfection of Earth?

The Father listened intently to the angel's plea. A smile graced His already brilliant face as He granted Lestiel's request.

Now Lestiel roams the Earth seeking out the broken-hearted children in need of hope and love. She comes to them as a young girl named Courtney with her silver hair tied in pigtails. She wears a white blouse with a pink skirt and heart-embroidered tights even on the muggiest summer days. A brooch in the shape of a winged heart adorns her chest.

Lestiel remains visible mostly to children. Only on very rare occasions will she present herself to an adult. Often she is simply dismissed as an imaginary friend. But her mission is far more than just playing games with some attention-starved kid. She is their shoulder to cry on, the confidant that will never mock nor trivialize their fears and will encourage them to do the right thing regardless of the odds.

But when her charge moves on so must she. Maybe they find an earthly friend that can take her place. Perhaps they realize that they are not as hopeless as they thought. Or they simply grow up. Whatever the case, she leaves it all in the capable hands of the Father.

Because she is still fairly inexperienced with such assignments Lestiel does not wander the world alone. She is constantly accompanied by an Archangel named Amaskel. "Kel" acts as Lestiel's teacher, mentor and bodyguard. While invisible to mortals most of the time he will sometimes show himself as "Courtney's" pet; a white cat with wing-shaped markings on its back.

Every so often the pair will be confronted by demonic spirits that attempt to halt their mission. Most of these are merely imps that whisper horrid things into the ears of humans leaving them distraught and hateful. Lestiel can often shoo the little beasts away without much trouble. But should she be threatened by a demon of a greater caliber Amaskel will gladly dispatch it.

So if you're feeling alone and full of despair, take heart. You just may be this little angel's next assignment!
