Yes, my name is Bumbus but it wasn't always Bumbus. For the first four years of my life I lived in an adoption center and there they had called me Kumos. I guess Kumos is a nice name but I never really thought that it fit, it was merely my species name. They never really understood me there and all of the older pets bullied me because I was different and never really fit in. The reason I was different was because I always thought that I would make a better Bumbus than I would a Kumos. The other pets teased me and told me that no owner would ever come to the adoption center and adopt a Kumos just so they could morph it into a Bumbus.
I used to think that they were just being mean and trying to get under my skin. Even though they did most of the time I was always good at maintaining my temper and keeping calm. I think that those qualities are just what I need to be a good Bumbus. Whatever they told me I was going to forget it and stride to become whatever I wanted to be.
Days went by in the adoption center, weeks...months. I began to feel that I would remain in the adoption center forever and never get my chance to become a proper Bumbus. I decided I was tired of waiting. One night when everyone was asleep I sneaked out into the night with no real idea where I was going. I was reluctant to leave Delphi Beach because it was the only good thing about being in the adoption center, there was always nice weather and you could always go swimming at the beach.
However, I made my way across the dock, pass the aquarium around the corner to the right and out of town. I felt like I was walking forever until I came across a small carnival just south of Delphi. I stopped for a while just to have a look around and came across a strange looking man with a line on his face and he was wearing a striped hat. He asked me if I thought I could beat him but my self esteem being what it is I mumbled "no" under my breath and turned to walk away. I think he must have felt sorry for me because as I was turning to walk away he said "hey, kid..." and he flicked a shiny wizard token at me. I smiled at him and nodded as a thank you and continued to walk off of the carnival grounds.
I decided to take a path that would lead me further north than Delphi. After walking for a while I felt the need to stop and rest, by that time it was getting dark anyway so I nestled myself under a tree for the night. I had never been very brave in the dark but I felt that the best way to be like a Bumbus was to be brave like one so I managed to fall asleep and dream about being brave like a Bumbus.
I was awakened to the sounds of birds and squirrels chirping and chattering in the trees. I rolled over, stretched and yawned as I made my way back to the trail to continue my journey. I continued to head north and as I got closer to the next town over there were rows of flowers and hundreds of tiny bumblebees buzzing and bringing sweet nectar back to their hives that were nestled among the forest of trees. I envied them a little as I walked by remembered that a Bumbus should not show envy so I continued to trot along the path in silence.
I came across a tiny stream and stopped for a drink. I kind of felt like someone or something was watching me but I just shrugged it off and continued to have a drink from the small stream. A little breeze started to blow across the plain and through the grass. I could smell something unusual, a different smell than I ever experienced before. I held my head up and listened...I could hear something in the trees above my head. It flicked and frolicked through the leaves, I got spooked and ran to hide behind a boulder at the edge of the forest clearing. I could hear footsteps coming toward me through the grass, my heart pounded and sounded similar to the beat of a snare drum. It got closer and closer...I let out a little whimper from fright! It jumped at me and landed on my shoulder! I yelped but the small creature just seemed to be sniffing me all over and combing through my fur. LE SIGH!
I smelled the small creature and decided that it was no threat to me. It scurried all around my body tickling me with each little foot scuff. I giggled and the little creature fled to the ground and behind a small rock. I said "Hey! Wait a minute, don't go!" The little creature peeped at me, I could see it's little round black eyes flickering and its little tail waved as it eyed me from afar.
