Broken
This arrow
sought my heart,
and bound me mercilessly
to unending sorrow.
Yesterday,
much like tomorrow,
was dim and cruel and dreary.
I'm not even alive enough
anymore
to give up.
Homesick
Have you ever felt it? That sickening tug on your heart, that unbearable longing for something you've had so many times and still can't stand to be without? I'm talking about homesickness. It's such a painful thing; to miss those small insignificant memories. Memories, that when you speak of them to others, no one listens. Why won't they listen? Because our nostalgic thoughts cannot be converted to verbs and nouns, no, that sweet southern summertime breeze can only ever exist in my head and the heads of those I shared that moment with. But they aren't here... And I want nothing more than to talk to them face to face and not contort our voices across a network of wires- but I can't. I have obligations where I currently reside, obligations this materialistic world has forced upon me and so many like me. And yes, that is an excuse, albeit a bad one. Time has estranged me from my loved ones and that refreshingly cool crawdad-riddled creek. It has separated me from my once good friends and the indescribably diverse melodies of the frequent avian passerby. Sometimes, it seems, a blessing and a curse that our minds can wander so far from us. Your home may not be the same color as my wild Tennessee, but if you've ever felt the tug of homesickness- that random moment when your heart is happy and warm away from your body, you'd also know the feeling when someone tugs at your arm, ending your glassy-eyed stupor just to leave you cold and empty and alone...
"Why did you touch me?" The tentacled Devonti whispers under her breath. You try to explain, but she yanks her body from your hand and gallops away. She didn't mean to be rude, she just knows you won't understand.
She painfully utters a few more soft words you aren't meant to hear [yet she wishes desperately you could], "Never wait so long that a desire turns into an impossibilty... Life is so precious and temporary." As she continues to speed away, a tear streams down her face and assimilates into the salty ocean water

“Maybe you had to leave in order to really miss a place; maybe you had to travel to figure out how beloved your starting point was.-Jodi Picoult

“Heart thoughts are profound, hindsight aches and hope is obscure. I'm craving a great adventure -- one that leads me back home.”-Donna Lynn Hope

“Every mile was redolent of associations, which she would not have missed for the world, but each of which made her cry upon 'the days that are no more' with ineffable longing.” -Elizabeth GaskellCredits
