Atmai's Story
She was always very quiet, and kept mostly to herself...even around her friends it was a fake laugh, and a fake smile.
She had a few pictures of him still in the house, she knew that it would be better to throw them away and forget about the past, because of what he did to her but she didn't have the strength. His name was Kevin. He is what fueled her depression.
Everything was fine at first, then he started to slip drugs into her food, and her drinks. When she was high he would pass her along his friends like a doll... they all had their way with her.
She was too scared to leave, she didn't want anyone to know what happened, Kevin had put it in her head that everything was her fault, that she was worthless, and without him she was nothing. No one knew what was happening to her.
Kevin just up and left one day, no explanation, nothing to hint if he was coming back, or even if he was alive. The depression set in fast, she was cutting for 2 years and her friends had no clue.
Noroti came into her life very unexpectedly. He followed her home, she didn't know. She hadn't hurt herself for almost 3 months, but was seriously thinking about it. She just sat on her couch looking at the picture of him.
Noroti had watched her for a while and had a bad feeling about her situation. He knocked on the door, when Atmai answered it he asked if she had wanted help. Atmai tried to play dumb but Noro nailed everything that was wrong, she told him what had happened and he offered therapy for her. She tried to tell him that she would be fine, and that it wasn't necessary but he asked for her to come in anyway.
Atmai asked him to leave, but the next day she listened, she came to the office, and went through her first session. Already she was feeling better about everything and decided to keep coming back. After a while she only really wanted to come in to see him. She didn't want to admit it but she was developing a crush on her therapist.
Noroti told Atmai that it was their last session and that he was very proud of her for getting over everything that happened, and erasing everything that remained from Kevin from her life. She had asked if it was possible for her to come in just to see him, he agreed after thinking a moment about it. He had started to like her too.
They became a couple, Atmai had started working for him at the front reception desk. After about a year a woman came in with a young boy. She went up to see Noroti and had the boy, who was about 5, stay in the waiting room. Atmai watched after him, and Noroti came out to her extremely angry. He talked to the boy fast and called the cops. Atmai asked Noroti what was going on, he kind of avoided her questions about the woman and boy, but did tell her that his name was Calder. The cops came and Noroti told them that the woman was not fit to be a parent and explained the men that would stay at her apartment, and the drugs and alcohol that she would smell of that Calder told him about. Noroti asked Atmai if it was okay if Cal joined them for dinner, she agreed.
After they ate, Calder had asked for a place that had a kids play room, Noroti watched him from the table, as Atmai asked him about what happened, and what was really going on with the boy.
Noroti explained the story to her. The woman was his ex-wife and Calder his son. He explained that they had split after Cal had turned 2. He explained that he lost custody only because she was sleeping with the judge that ran their case.
Atmai took a moment to let everything sink in, she leaned across the table and kissed Noroti. She told him that she was happy that Calder was out of his bad situation and with someone who could take care of him. Noroti told her that he wanted them all to be a family. Atmai of course agreed, Cal came back over to them to take a drink and sat in Atmai's lap. She could tell that Cal really liked her. Noroti asked Atmai if she would marry him after he bought a ring for her. Atmai nodded and told Noroti only if it was okay with Calder.
Cal smiled and nodded to show his approval.
