Legacy Name: Button

Button hopped down, branch by branch, from his home inside the great oak tree. Something small glittered on the ground below; what did the tall creatures leave behind this time? The small griffin loved finding new treasures in the forest. Button waited at the base of the tree as the tall, strange, creatures walked by. He quickly darted across the trail to his potential treasure buried halfway in the dirt.

Button pulled the shiny object from the earth with his small talons and held it up; it was a silver coin. Button had plenty of coins in his treasure hoard, but this one was different. Over the years, Button had developed a good eye for detail for various trinkets he came across. This particular coin had a chip in it, which Button thought this was peculiar since these flat, shiny objects were so hard that not even one of his talons could put a mark on them.

Holding the coin in his beak, Button scampered back across the trail and up his tree. Button, a griffin no bigger than a common squirrel, lived in a vast forest. Humans often hike through the trails or camp in the clearings. Whenever they'd leave, Button would run out and look for anything they may have left behind. He loved finding treasures; it was his passion.

A jaybird squawked at him as he ran up the tree. Through a hole in the side of the tree, was a cozy nest filled with all sorts of treasures dropped and abandoned by those tall creatures below. Button walked over to a stack of various coins and sat down. Taking the coin from his beak, he shook some of the dirt off it and stacked it with the others.

Button adjusted a few various items in the scattered pile, making sure everything was right where he wanted it. He sat back on his hind legs and proudly gazed over his collection. Various keychains and fishing lures hung from the walls of his home, while scraps of paper and fabric lined the indented floor.

The sky had started to change from it's crisp blue into the rich orange of sunset. Button watched the neighboring birds return to their nests as he nibbled on a blackberry he plucked from a bush earlier in the day. He licked his claws clean of the remaining blackberry and darted back into his home. Button curled up on the brown leather glove that was centered in the piles of trinkets and wrapped his tail around himself for warmth. It was the end to another long day.
