Azerjian walked out of his warm cabin in the forest to the beautiful winter morning dawning outside. He swished his long striped tail in contentment from the covered porch as he looked out to the small meadow layered in snow and saw his minion, Sirian the Sidine. The silver pony stallion whickered to his mate Mirra the Medale as the golden pony mare cheerfully neighed back and then began her day as she did every day, chasing the sun. She would return at nightfall to rejoin her mate and then rest as he in turn followed the moon. Sirian walked over to the porch and whiffled at Azerjian, who petted his nose with claws carefully withdrawn. Azerjian leaped gracefully to Sirian’s back and the pony turned towards his warm barn to rest and eat. After caring for his minion's needs, Azerjian made his daily patrol through the woods around his home, making sure all was right in his world.
Nothing was amiss today, unlike last month when an invasion of very late migrating birds descended upon his section of the forest around the nearly frozen lake close by. They were extremely noisy and drew the attention of other unwelcome predators, but still he had been able to fill half of his freezer with birds for many meals to come from that encounter. He hated plucking feathers but loved bird meat. So many ways to cook them too that he never got bored eating them. Not to mention catching them was fun. He was feline after all. The only things he loved to eat more than birds were fish. But just about any meat was good, such as the nice fat rabbit he surprised and caught on the way back to his cabin. It would make a good stew for dinner.
As Azerjian neared home he stopped in his tracks as a scent sweeter than sunshine reached him. Grinning around the rabbit hanging from his jaws, he started walking again, quickening his pace until he was running through the trees. The snow was no impediment for a Glacier Feli of course, and his paw prints and scent vanished behind him as he made them due to the special amulet Chrysariel had crafted for him.
He stopped next to the huge oak tree by his house for a moment, just taking in the view. She was sitting on his porch delicately licking one paw. Her glossy fur caught the sunlight that slanted under the roof and her small horns glinted. Her tiny demon wings fluttered with her irritation as one part of her paw seemed recalcitrant to her cleaning. Azerjian sighed and his heart beat faster. Surely there was no female Glacier Feli as beautiful as Miraja. Not to him, anyway. He bounded up the steps and dropped the rabbit at her feet. His purr matched hers as they rubbed noses and then sides, their tails curling around each other's. The door closed behind them and snow started to fall.
It was awhile before Azerjian remembered the rabbit left on the porch, but it still made a nice stew for their dinner.
