THE LIVING DOLL

The life-size doll called Nicolas, he certainly stands out! He’s beautiful. He looks and feels like he’s made of porcelain, but claims to have been doing heavy housework for almost 70 years and never suffered a single scratch or crack… The witch’s masterwork, I think.

She was very powerful, that’s certain. I think she could have easily lived much longer, if she wanted, but the kind of magic she did made that impossible. She poured it all into her many friends… some of them stopped moving after she was gone, according to Nicolas. Yet he and a few others persist… It's difficult to know for how long. I believe the spell was powered, at least in part, by love. Perhaps as long as someone loves him the way she did, he will be able to continue to be animate… no, alive. I suppose only time will tell.
