Abandoned on the doorstep of the University, she was always a little unusual. Her skin was not the deep red of the local hens and roosters, but pale as the fungi that grew in the dank University catacombs. Her eyes were a milky blue (sign of her difficulty of seeing).

Farand Ola, the pious Philosophlanger hens had named her. She was always a little smaller than the other children, always getting lost in the catacombs, always getting in trouble. Sister Nass Sirind's poor heart was troubled so by these antics.

She was always combing the beach on an errand, collecting specimens for her elders. Or maybe she was running through the catacombs beneath the city, following the path of running water. Hunting for mushrooms or browsing the books in the grand library. Feeding the University's mascot, perhaps.

Near sunset Nass Sirind would find her on the rooftops, trying to talk to birds or gazing at the wide open sky.
