She kept her hands clenched together. Running through the brush on instinct alone, she dodged the trees and fallen debris that littered the ground. She was blind to the path that led here her, instead choosing a direction and following it in a straight line, praying it would lead her back to the mountain.
The sun was at its peak, but below the canopy of the tree tops the air still held a chill. The thick leaves left the area dimly lit, acting like a thin blanket against the sun. The climate kept the wildlife passive and relatively calm, Fiorie's rush setting a path of havoc behind her as she blindly broke through branches and ran a ragged path ignoring anything that may be under foot. The birds alone blatantly showing their displeasure as they squawked their complaints loudly and endlessly above them.
Leaving small imprints of slush under her feet as she ran, the drops of water running down her arms told her she was losing the ability to even maintain the small climate between her palms.
Her thoughts scrambled, sending all sorts of messages to her limbs. She couldn't think and her mind was slowly slipping from her, filling with only the crunching echo of whatever was just a few meters behind her. She thought of climbing one of the many trees but with her trembling hands trying to protect her precious theft, she'd be caught before she could get a foot off the ground. Keeping a steady running pace, her sweat was starting to mix with the slush of her footprints, leaving larger and larger puddles for her chaser to follow. Sapping more and more of her energy. She'd of tossed her possession out of desperation long ago if it weren't so small as to likely be missed.
Running into a fallen trunk more than twice her size, the tears started to well as she felt the inevitable was quickly coming upon her. Clawing for traction with her feet and elbows, she edged upwards, cutting herself on the jagged wood that wasn't so rotten as to fall apart. Landing hard on the other side, she tumbled down the trunk. Leaving more watery imprints as she gasped for breath. Lifting herself up she could instantly feel the mountain air rushing toward her. She took in a deep breath as heavy claws hit the wood behind her. Startled, she turned in time to catch the still slightly iced flower she'd picked earlier embedded into the rough bark of the tree. She instinctively lunged forward toward it as the claw of the beast dug into the wood just feet above her. Losing her courage she fled toward the whipping chill air, gaining more energy and speed as the temperature dropped. The monster not deterred in the least was almost inches behind her. She felt the air of it as it grabbed for her. It would be impossible for her to climb quickly enough even with both her hands now free. Instead she prepared to hit the ice of the mountain, diving into it as she vanished, leaving a pile of fresh powdery snow.
