Crazy Is My Middle Name
Sharpay was once born to a small pack of wolves that were of unusually large size. There was a male, a female and he had three other brothers. Unfortunately this pack was often referred to as "Demon Dogs" and so were targets for manhunts. This caused Sharpay much distress as they had to move frequently and run even more so from the onslaught of gunfire that could always be heard just beyond the horizon. His brothers ended up being much larger than him as he was the runt of the litter, though one could argue he was still quite large for even a wolf pup. As time went on the family traveled over much of the lands of Astrinet, through dusty deserts and icebound landscapes. Through treacherous swampland and past densely populated cities. Even as the little ones grew into young adults it seemed as if the family just could not get away from the relentless bounty hunters...As the family ran alongside the oceanside of Scarset City one starless night they finally experienced their first fatality. They had taken just a quick break, trying to catch their breath as the endless chase kept them all so exhausted. Little Sharpay had been laying in the sand when a small crab caught his eye and he quietly watched it scuttle across the little dunes. He was fascinated by the small creature just living its best life by the water, not a single little care in the world. He didn't notice his family begin to pick up pace nor his mother screaming for him as the hunters drew closer. By the time he had realized he was nearly alone he heard a single loud, explosive gunshot. Darkness enveloped him as he faintly heard his mother screeching.
When Sharpay opened his eyes again darkness was all that surrounded him. Not a single shred of light was found. Shakily he stood and began wandering in a direction, only changing directions when he felt his nose bump into some sort of wall. Was he in a cave of sorts? Or maybe one of those hunter's houses? He'd never seen the inside of a human home before but surely it wasn't like this. He tried to focus his eyes in the dark but just couldn't get a read on the area. As he proceeded what he assumed was forward he felt like he was in the middle of a giant room though soon found himself tumbling through the air as he fell through a hole in the ground. He called out for help as he felt his body twist and turn in the air, it felt violent to him but at the same time it felt calm. Like the eye of a storm. He closed his eyes tight and hoped the falling would end shortly. Luckily for him it did as light suddenly hit his eyes and they flashed open, watching the world before him. Clouds? There were so many clouds. Quite a bit of swirling air that he could actually see and he was caught up in its flow as it took him on a predestined path. Slowly it evened out and he soon found himself plopped down in front of a rather ornate looking building. The walls were marbled and the door frame as well as the window panes were gilded. He looked around a bit before shakily standing on his feet just now realizing his fur had changed from the similar patterns of his green coated father to that of a glowing, silky blue and white pattern like his mum had. He now had wings like his mum too! But not nearly as thin looking as these were large and puffed up like an angry bird. His chest had a large orange heart with a smaller one above it. Four orange circles were below this set of hearts that created a fun little pattern. His tail looked as if it had been dipped in orange paint too. He looked down to find he could see his reflection in the marble and took note his face was now mostly white with his noes, eyebrows and tips of his ears covered in the same bright orange. He was admiring his new look when he heard someone speak, startling him.
"Why hello there stranger!"
*Gasp*
"Don't be afraid now, come on in! Gotta get you registered in the book!"
"Wh-Who are you?"
"I got many names son but here they call me 'Ol Inscribed."
The door to the building had opened while Sharpay was looking at himself and the creature within had startled him. He looked like just any old goat but with small wings and a warm smile. Inscribed beckoned him again and Sharpay hesitated a bit before slowly trotting his way over. Inside was huge with various types of books and scrolls lined up the walls and what seemed like into the heavens. He was lead to a pedestal where Inscribe opened an ornate white book with golden accents. It was there that Sharpay learned of what he had became. A Guardian. It was his duty to protect all who may need help now matter how tall or how small. If he wanted to be assigned a particular area then all he had to do was ask. Otherwise he was free to roam wherever he pleased so long as he did his best to help those in need. Sharpay asked what would happen if he were to reject the calling and Inscribed simply pointed downward with his hoof and a stern look on his face. Pay did not have to think twice about the decision after that. He also asked why he didn't seem to have much memory of his family aside from the color of his family's fur coats and his last moments before waking in the darkness. Tall Tell told him it depended on the individual. Some come to the land of Solaris and don't remember a single thing about their lives, not even their own parents. Sometimes when Guardians wander they slowly gain back their memories though sometimes are altered to be either better or worse. Scri hoped for him that it wasn't the latter.
Pay never does stick to one place long, not intending to make friends or even be seen. But he came across a place called Sallow's Gate and has lingered longer than intended. There was something there, though he could not place it, that felt like it wasn't good. Wasn't right. It honestly terrified him just a bit. He hadn't felt such a dark and deep sense of dread wash over him in a long time. Even though there was another guardian like creature in the area, he still felt threatened, somehow. The town was quite quite and he could only assume that if something dark had washed over said town, that it would be a catastrophe for neighboring places. Perhaps for the entirety of Astrinet itself... Of course, Pay was also known for being super paranoid and he knew the others would not take him seriously. Until then, he quietly lurks in hopes that his feelings about the area are wrong.
