The Blind Prodigy

He was born into an ordinary, average family - moderately well to do with a comfortable two bedroom home in a small family neighborhood. His father worked a regular day job as a locksmith, and his mother was a stay at home wife who brought in extra money as a tutor and piano teacher to the children of the neighborhood. They were high school sweethearts, one of those couples that people knew would be together forever. They married when they were twenty after Mr. Gregori finished trade school and opened his own shop and two years later had their first child, Alan.

Alan was born with albinism and because of it would lack vision which he would easily adapt to over the years. Despite his lack of eye sight he displayed early signs of acute hearing. Intent to make good use of his extraordinary hearing his mother encouraged and helped him to not only learn but master the skill of echolocation. This ability accompanied with the use of his cane, the occasional service dog, and his own remaining senses would allow him to live a normal life. Mostly normal anyway.

He attended the normal schools in the area and in the afternoons and on the weekend as his mother continued to teach piano, he would be close by listening carefully. He was six when she finally let him sit before the ivories. While it took him a few moments, and mother's help to settle his hands in the correct position and to feel along the keys to remember it - it didn't take long before the large instrument was singing. Everything he played was from memory, excluding anything he created himself - he did not learn to read music with the use of Braille until he was thirteen. As the years went on he'd get his hands on new instruments, and like before it would only take a short time of listening and feeling before he could play; a musical prodigy.

Alan would graduate early from high school at the age of seventeen and would soon move on. Proud mother and father watching as he moved to the city to attend a prestigious music and arts school. Not only this, but to become a part of an orchestra as well as to perform his own solo concerts on occasion. His passion and art have provided him with a cozy and comfortable lifestyle with plenty of cushion. A caring and good son - a good portion of his pay check is sent back home to his parents who are now enjoying some hobbies and luxuries they had gone without upon the arrival of their son.
