She's Got A Plush Soul
Hazel Harebell was a kind woman who lived in the little town of Coalfell before it went up in flames. From a young age she had a knack for working on plush toys though was able to fix pretty much any ol' broken toy. When she got older she was able to open her own little shop in Coalfell that sold some plush toys she made and offered a way to teach people how either make the same little toys or fix up ones that were brought in broken. Even toys that had been through the wringer were able to get the much needed love they desired as she worked her magic. She was definitely popular around the holidays and was easily kept busy as requests would pile up though she never did hire more help. She simply put a little brown bunny she made behind the counter and told folks that was her little helper! Hazel had made the little brown bunny for her son but after an unfortunate accident he was no longer within the world of the living. She couldn't bear to give the bunny up though so she tied a little ribbon around it's neck and kept them around as support. Things were pretty peaceful in her town though, she lived a pretty luxurious life with the money she made. She was able to purchase the best supplies for her plush making and made sure to get the highest quality tools so that they'd last for a long time. Despite living alone she was pretty happy in the little town of Coalfell... One night while the carnival was in town, Hazel was just wrapping up for the night. She was exhausted from working all day and just wanted to relax on her rooftop balcony and watch the fun carnival lights dance into the night. She took a bottle of wine out of her cabinet and brought her little brown bunny friend up with her to enjoy the night. She'll never truly understand why she carries this little fella around but for now the mystery was to remain unsolved. Tonight was a night of celebration, a night to listen to all the happy folks as they enjoyed their yearly carnival visit. Once she was settled in she poured a glass of wine and sipped a bit as the music blasted into the night. It wasn't long until she closed her eyes, her other hand gently resting on that bunny plush. She was pretty tired after all. Maybe a little nap wouldn't hurt.
She awoke to the sound of horrific screaming. She jolted upright and knocked over the wine bottle she had sat upon the table. She quickly looked around to find the source of the scream but they had made their way down the road. When she turned back to see what they had been running from her eyes widened. A fire... A great fire had broke out at the carnival. The flames were higher than their tallest buildings already and people were scattered across the town. Hazel swore to herself and knew she should have packed that emergency back for just in case! She snatched her bunny up and rushed inside, grabbing her biggest bag and begun to put supplies in it. Extra clothing, some canned goods, some of her tools and supplies. Most importantly her little brown bunny. For some reason she got hung up on the idea of needing to take her wedding dress with her and spent a good bit trying to find it in the closet. She knew the fire was tearing through town but she needed this even though her husband was no longer with her... She needed this dress. By the time she found it and stuffed it in her bag it was almost too late. The blaze was closer than ever and it'd be a miracle if she got out of the driveway. Hazel was going to try though and threw her stuff into her car and backed out of the garage, barely giving the door time to open. She whipped her ride out into the road and as she threw it into drive there was an explosion that shook her head and caused her to become dizzy. She tried to shake it off but it was no use. She couldn't drive in a straight line and she had been close enough to the flame for the bumper on her car to melt. The road had melted into muck as well and her tires refused to drive after a few minutes. She began to panic as she slammed down the gas, the car roaring in protest, the tires squealing with nowhere to go. When she tried to abandon her car she was met with a wave of intense heat as she opened her door, causing her to shut it back. She was trapped. Like a bunny in a bear trap... Hazel did her best not to cry but there wasn't a thing she could do. Even if she did get out the road would just melt to her foot and she'd be stuck either way. At least in here her remains wouldn't have to be scraped off the road. She took one last breath and grabbed her little bunny friend tight. She then curled into a fetal position after putting her seat all the way back to give room for her legs to sit in the seat. Her eyes shut closed and she uttered one last sentence before she succumbed to the heat.
"It won't be long now hon, mommy is coming to see you."
Harebell was in the same position when her eyes suddenly opened. She silently scanned the area before sitting up. She wasn't in Coalfell anymore that's for sure. This place was surrounded by clouds and had buildings made of gilded marble. It was beautiful here. Was this heaven? As she sat up she noticed she wasn't quite as tall as she had been before. She looked down and gave a surprised gasp. She was now a bunny! A light brown bunny with wings! Harebell knew she perished but didn't know you'd turn into an animal when entering heaven. A soft laugh made her jump and whip around to see a lovely lady.
"Hello there."
"Hi."
"How are you feeling?"
"Pretty okay considering I died in a fire."
"What a brutal way to go. But I'm glad you are okay now."
"Where am I?"
"This place is called Solaris. It hosts creatures called Guardians. Those who are granted second chance are called Guardians."
"So you're a Guardian?"
"Yep! You are too!"
"What's your name?"
"I offically am called White Queen here but you are free to call me Selena if you wish, Harebell."
The second gasp told White Queen she had explaining to do so she happily provided answers to the best of her ability. Harebell learned of the giant snake in the sky called Gio as well as Queen's husband named Dali, who was usually the guide for newcomers but he was busy elsewhere so she stepped in for the moment. She gave Harebell the grand tour of the place and then gave her advice on finding purpose so she isn't too dissatisfied with her life here. Harebell thought the statement strange but didn't comment on it as she already knew what she could do. These paws were more flexible than she thought and she could easily keep making her cute plushies for those in need. She just had to be sneaky about it this time since folks don't really know Guardians are a real thing. She was like a little Santa Claus! It would be fun! The only problem was Solaris didn't exactly have any supplies for her to use. She wondered if Coalfell would have anything salvageable. Queen warned her about that particular place as it seemed cursed. Harebell promised she'd be safe and if any danger arose she would get back quicker than the other could blink!
Harebell's trip to Coalfell was somewhat eventful. She witnessed a few little toys that had quite literally come to life. She wondered if this is what Queen meant by the place being cursed? It was also still covered in that dark slop that her car had gotten stuck in as well. It was a shame but at least she could float high enough with her wings to stay away from that stuff. She decided to seek her own vehicle out among the many that were stuck in the middle of the road. Once she found it, she peered inside and was disappointed. The fire had destroyed pretty much everything. Especially her wedding dress. It was nothing but clumps of cloth and ash in the back. Though something red caught her eye that was hidden beneath the steering wheel. She turned and went to take a gander at what it was and she nearly screamed in happiness. It was her little brown bunny! Oh how she'd missed it so much! It did not seem to suffer much damage to the exterior. The light brown pelt and soft cream stomach seemed as pristine as the day it was finished. The few snow white fawn spots on the back seemed to be a little bit sooty though. The nicely tied red ribbon that was placed around the neck to hide some rough stitching seemed to be a little bit frayed but nothing too serious. The little green button eyes still had their shine to them too. Harebell went to grab the little bunny and as she blinked her point of view seemed to be transferred to the little plush doll. She blinked internally and wondered what the actual heck was going on now. Could a Guardian possess an object like this? Or was this different since it was shaped like a rabbit and she was also rabbit shaped? Either way, she found she could still move and managed to hop out of the busted window of the car. It dawned on her that she could now search the area incognito and be recognized as a fellow toy instead of a bright looking Guardian. It'll take a while to gather supplies but at least she could now do it safely!
Harebell has since moved her shop to the entrance of Coalfell and seems to act as a safe spot from any monsters or what-have-you is lurking about. The window light is always on and calls people to its welcoming glow. She tends to quickly hide when a poor stray person wanders in as she doesn't want to upset Gio back in Solaris as she's not meant to be seen. Otherwise she does her best to keep the pantry stocked and the water running so any soul unfortunate to wind up in Coalfell can have a shot at making it out alive.
One day when Harebell went out with her little wagon to search for supplies she came across a funny orange object in the middle of Coalfell. It was as small as she was and was moving a little so she went to get a better look. Lo and behold it was another living plush toy! A strange orange wolf plush that reminded her of some of the plastic pumpkins she'd seen strewn about. The poor thing had passed out though so Harebell tucked her away on the wagon and brought her home. The other had many questions for her but she finally learned that her name was Shrill and that she had been looking at a pretty hot glowing thing before she woke up to her current predicament. Harebell wondered why her mother didn't just grab her and escape though figured this question would never be answered. She told Shrill that sometimes visitors will come through for one reason or another and stumble across her home. She makes all manner of plush things for them to choose and take home and asked if Shrill would like to help. The only rule is they have to hide when a stranger comes in! Shrill really just wants her mom but thought helping Harebell would be a nice way to pass the time until her mom came back to find her! Harebell agreed though knew deep down her mum was never going to return. Still, she keeps Shrill's spirits high just in case her family does make a return!
Nigiri is a funny little fish kite that Harebell finds very interesting to watch. He always seems to get his strings stuck on some structure and needs to be rescued. Harebell is the one who always helps him since she wanders the cursed lands looking for material to construct new plush friends to gift away. He does not speak to her but she doesn't mind all that much. She assumes they have a rather strong bond since she assists him daily. She has offered to paint his faded eyes, believing it may be why he runs into things so often, but she has been turned down every time. Seems some just wish to wander their cursed realm blindly.
A funny carousel horse that Harebell stumbled upon while wandering for supplies one day. She was frightened by his mostly normal appearance considering his home looked as if it had sitting in a lava bath, twisted in such a strange display. He had a friend who did not seem to be alive but also looked intact compared to the other horses, who were pretty much melted into grotesque creatures that were unrecognizable. She had nearly soiled herself when the carousel had sprung to life and started to play disorienting music. Luckily for her, The horse did not see her as a threat and left her be. Harebell sometimes brings an offering of silky scrap cloth as a thank you for not attacking her on sight.
Shrill is a little plush wolf that seems to have the soul of a little girl within her. Harebell suspects the soul found this plush suitable for a new home after the fire destroyed the original living quarters. She couldn't let the poor girl wander alone in this dangerous place though so she's taken her in for the time being. Shrill hopes that her mom will return but Harebell has a feeling deep down that it likely wasn't going to happen. Until then the pair work on cute plush toys for wandering folks to take home! Of course Shrill has to be reminded to hide sometimes as she really likes talking to people. When she asked Harebell why they had to hide, the bunny told her that she'd never be able to see her family again if a random stranger takes them home! Shrill didn't like this possibility and does her best to remember to stay away from the strangers! Bless her little heart.
