Jackson had a pretty normal and comfortable upbringing, though he was raised primarily by his maternal grandparents. He lost his parents at an early age, his mother passed shortly after his birth and fearing the struggle of raising the child alone his father gave up his custodial rights. The couple never hid the fact they were his grandparents from him instead choosing to tell him about his parents, particularly his mother, their cherished daughter. Other than his guardians everything else was as one would expect of a boy growing up; attending public school, participating in the occasional sport and getting into his share of mischief until he graduated. Jackson was especially close with his grandmother, a gardener and green thumb - traits she would pass on along with her soft southern drawl to her grandson.
Jackson graduated with a modest grade point average thanks to his fondness of reading that granted him the basic knowledge he needed to maintain his grades but he knew college wasn't for him. Instead he wished to pursue his passion for floriography and since it's not an academic topic he did his own learning on the subject. The years after graduation were spent in various jobs to make money for his savings and his nose in books, both for his personal study of flowers and his hopeless love for romance stories. Three years later he'd put a deposit down on a two-story building and rolled up his sleeves to renovate the place himself into his flower shop and apartment with rooftop garden and greenhouse. "Roselane" opened a few years later, a cozy little shop tucked into the city bustle.
The flower shop was small enough that Jackson could man it alone for the time being, it wasn't a super popular spot yet but he had his regulars who kept him in business. The small shop was given a vintage front face with it's wide display windows on either side of a stain-glass door with quaint striped scallop awning hanging over the front covering a sitting bench and a decorative flower cart. Roselane fit right into the historical district of the city with it's antique shops and cafes.
Jackson became a staple in the neighborhood over time - while he mostly tended to his own shop it wasn't unlike him to take the occasional odd job for a neighbor; he could easily fulfill some of the small handy-man tasks that needed to be done to help out. Most of the time while tending to his own place he could be found perched on the stool behind the counter or seated on the bench out front with his nose in a book between customers. Every few weeks the flora arrangements in the display windows would change to keep them fresh and lively and the flower cart was stacked with aromatic flora to lure in potential customers.
