Glade LegeicaKirin are pure, staunchly noble beasts that protect the good and punish and expel evil from their homelands; they are a symbol of fortune, justice, and inner peace and a wonder to behold.
This one, however, was none of that.
Known as the anathema in legend, the cursed kirin youkai has no true name and will take on any given to him. A result of corruption, he preys on humans to subsist. In his dying moments as a pure soul, he submitted to his more primal urges, devouring a lost boy out of desperation and hunger. Such an act left him changed, but also granted him a limitless life as long as he could eat, an easy enough task in his first few hundred years of life, stealthily terrorizing a nearby farmer's village. That would all change when the guardian tengu Tanaka had had enough, sealing him within the confines of the forest and the lake, where he resides, trapped, to this day.
Such a seal, however, did have the effect of keeping the guardian at bay. Tanaka could not enter, and the kirin could not leave, barring specific circumstances; on the first night of O-bon, the excess of spiritual activity had the peculiar effect of weakening the seal on the forest. On these nights, the kirin would assume a human form, also made possible by the festival, and leave not only to enjoy the festivities, but also to lure a potential meal with him back into the forest before sunrise. Though he was allowed to leave the confines of the forest, he was not permitted to touch any human without their permission, direct or indirect, outside that barrier.
He had become particularly taken with the beautiful clothing worn at these festivals, and would often take the clothing of whomever would follow him to wear the next year. Over the years, he has amassed hundreds of beautifully decorated kimonos.
Disarming in appearance and outward nature, he draws his prey of lost wanderers in with kind words and a soft-spoken disposition with promises to lead them home, only to betray the lost souls as little as moments later, dragging them to their death into the lake he has inevitably led them toward.
Though the kirin identifies as male mostly due to his outward appearance, he is in reality a genderless being. His true nature is easily distinguishable when his eyes open, pitch black in shade and lifeless, though it is not a sight many see, and even fewer live to tell the tale.
