Full Name: Evangeline Syrene Morrah Brunswick

Alias: Rosko

Age: 24

Birthdate: July 24th, 1759 CY

Height: 5'10''

Occupation: Government peon tasked with tracking illegal immigrants and escaped war prisoners

Hometown: Northwestern Harue

Other: Rosko was born with bright red eyes that reflect light in a way that makes them seem like they're glowing. Though this trait is not unheard of, it is very rare among her country's population, and so many people find themselves unnerved by her strange, eerie gaze. She modestly tries to hide them behind her hair, but her superiors at work have recently asked her to wear dark masks to better enhance her intimidating glare, so that she may perform her various assignments more efficiently.

Artwork: X by Soren

Character Origin: OC; originally just a Subeta human avatar - Soren liked the design so much that she took the newly-created Rosko and created a personality for her, as well as giving her a major role in her particular universe.

"I see you've returned, Evangeline Brunswick."

"Rosko, please, sir. Call me Rosko."

The young woman at the center of the room shifted from side to side, her voice uncharacteristically soft. She eyed the man behind the desk with caution, and as she bowed to acknowledge him, she felt a sharp, growing sense of dread.

Silence remained in the room for several more moments, before being disturbed by the rustling of papers. The man held a folder of documents in his hands, murmuring quietly to himself as he examined each page.

"These are the reports you've sent to me for the past year. You've done well for a newcomer. I did not expect such performance from a person with your kind of reputation."

The woman gritted her teeth at his comment, but said nothing as she waited for him to look her over, avoiding eye contact as much as she could. "I've tried my hardest to make up for all my mistakes, sir," she said at last, "the Haruite government deserves only the best in the field."

"The names you've gathered have been especially useful; we've already silenced several traitorous rats that have come too close to the government's core. Your work has been most satisfying, Ms. Brunswick."

Smiling, the man leaned forward, clasping his hands together. "Such a shame that you're not an actual part of this organization, but perhaps it's best this way. We... ah, have more freedom with you when you're left dangling from a thread, wouldn't you say?"

Cringing as the man let out a hearty laugh, the woman resisted the urge to turn and run, but knew with increasing uneasiness that she had to hold her ground. With a small cough she cleared her throat as quietly as she could, her anxiety causing her jaw and limbs to stiffen. "Sir, I-I hate to interrupt your amusement..."

"Do you have a problem?"

N-no, sir, there's no... it's not a big problem, you see, sir, I just need to say..."

"You're wasting my time. Out with it already."

Heart racing, the woman knew it was now or never. "I've done so much work for you and for the organization, I-I need to ask.... When can I see Bonnie again...?"

Her expectations had been high when she had first entered the room, but as the man laughed again, her heart sank. "Ah, that's something you shouldn't be concerned with right now. I have the details of your next assignment right here, and I expect you to leave for your next destination by tomorrow--"

"But that's not what you told me the last time!" she suddenly exclaimed, her voice hoarse and uneven. Eyes watering, she gave the man a desperate look, still clinging onto her remaining, intact feelings of security and hope. "You told me, s-sir, that after this mission was over, you'd let me visit her, and that there was a chance she would be r-released, s-sir.... That's not fair!"

The man's face had twisted into a frown, disappointment flashing in his eyes. "Amazing how that works, isn't it? Nobody said that the world was fair, Ms. Brunswick. I don't recall making any deal with you the last time you were here in my office."

His words hung in the air as the room fell silent.

"S-sir, you sent me over into the enemy's territory, and I risked my life out there for you, because I thought... I thought... You said I could see her after I returned!"

"That's enough!" the man shouted in response, banging his fist on the desk. "I don't care about who you are or what is important to you. You have proven that you are just deserving enough to avert execution. I've saved you from an immediate death, yet you come and whine to me about 'fairness'? Who do you think you are? Who gave you such permission to challenge my authority? My decision is final, Brunswick!"

Shaking, the young woman held back a sob, her face twisted with disbelief and dismay.

"I just want to see my partner again, sir. That's all I ask," she cried.

"No more of this nonsense. You are nothing but a tool, a blemish on the face of society. You've done nothing to deserve my sympathy, and I will not waste my time by catering to your needs. Tomorrow you will head south to the capital, where you will receive even further explanation. You are going to complete your job without complaint...

...or I will request the execution of your disgusting girlfriend. That is your choice to make."

At a loss for words, the woman hung her head in defeat.

"That won't be necessary, sir. I'll leave at dawn."

...

April 5th 1783 CY

Dear Bonnie,

I am sorry I haven't written to you for several weeks. I am blessed that they still let me write to you, but I'm worried they soon might take that privilege away. If only you had that same privilege and could write back to me, as I want to hear about you so, so dearly. All I can do is pray that you're still well, and that maybe my letter will be enough to put a smile on your precious face.

I've been assigned to chase after a renegade official down in the southern region. I wish I could put my work aside and come to visit you but it seems as though I will have to leave immediately for my next job. There are no words to describe how miserable I feel at the thought of leaving you behind, but I have no choice; for the safety of your life and my own, I will not protest, even if my heart says otherwise.

All I can say is that I am deeply sorry. Lord knows I've tried, but the hole I've dug for myself just keeps getting larger and larger. I'm still going to try for your sake, but when the odds are against me, it's hard to stay optimistic. The only thing that keeps me going is the thought of us, joyfully living together years after the war, without anyone or anything to ruin our happiness. I promised that life to you, and I will do everything in my power to turn that promise into a reality.

I have to keep my head up. Don't cry, Bonnie, don't cry for me, because I've not given up yet. This is all my fault in the first place, and I need a chance to fix what I've done. I'll prove to them my worth and your own, I'll rescue you from your cage, and we'll run, far away, to a land where we'll be free.

No matter what anyone says, we are still human, Bonnie. Nobody has the authority to make you feel poorly for who you are.

Have faith, sweetheart, and please, wait for me; I'll save you soon.

I love you.

-Rosko

Rosko Morrah, born Evangeline Syrene Morrah Brunswick, lived the first half of her life in the far-northwestern region of Harue. Her life was one of great splendor, as her family was one of the most well-established houses in the entire nation. Being descendants of what used to be the Harue royal line, her family still held onto the tradition of living glamorously and maintaining a steady hand in the northwestern government. Rosko, who was, quite literally, a princess, had all the opportunities in the world to receive a decent education, and find a suitable job later on in her life.

In her late teens she enrolled in a pre-college program, where she hoped to better prepare herself for the adult world. It was there she met Bonnie, as they were both assigned to work on the same project. The two were fast friends, each complementing another's personality well; Rosko always found herself in awe of Bonnie's calm and collected manner, while Bonnie was deeply appreciative of Rosko's strength and energetic behavior. They only grew fonder of each other as time passed, and after a couple of years had gone by, they sheepishly began a romantic relationship.

Though the government, undergoing severe turmoil, had passed several strict laws against homosexuality, the two were able to flourish as a couple behind the backs of friends and family. People had their suspicions, but Rosko and Bonnie were able to evade the government for several months, as hard as it was to hide such a secret from the world.

Their peace didn't last long. As hard as they tried to cover up their real feelings, their secret was spilled anyway; in an unfortunate turn of events, Bonnie's parents learned the truth behind her relationship with Rosko, and relayed the message to the Brunswick manor. The news quickly spread, and within a couple of days the two found themselves in deep trouble with the law.

As a result, Bonnie was instantly jailed, much to the horror of the distraught Rosko. Though she was intended to be jailed as well, since she was the only heir to the Brunswick fortune, and was the future of the family's role in the government, Rosko was able to protest. With her family grudgingly supporting her, she managed to make a deal with the government - she would donate her time and efforts to whomever needed her assistance, and in return Bonnie would be released, saving her from an unjust execution. It was a deal made out of desperation, and although Rosko hated the work, she had no other choice but to do as she was told.

Today, she is still a pawn of the government, performing tasks that she doesn't even particularly understand. The promises made to her have been broken time and time again, but she continues onwards...

After all, wouldn't you do anything in the world to save a loved one?
