Shade is what is commonly known as a 'changeling.' Though their original form is quite ambiguous, they commonly take on the forms of both a young boy and a black cat. They are a mischievous creature whose intentions are often questionable, and when approaching a 'lost soul' will often take the form of what they desire most. If they sense a certain promise in a soul, they will appear to them in their original form.
They received their name from a girl named Esme.
