The rain trickled down into the small bucket Warwick had hung up the previous day. He pulled it down and filled his canteen. He took several gulps of the water. The river where he typically got his water from had become fouled and tasted like death. Part of him knew it was just the forest playing tricks on him, but he wouldn't risk it.
Fog began to roll in through the trees. Warwick looked up at the cracks between the branches as rain stung his face. He could feel the upcoming winter in every bone; he despised winter. Warwick wasn't a young man, yet he wasn't what would be considered old either. However, when winter came, he felt much like an old man. His muscles and bones would ache, making it harder for him to draw back a bow or chop the firewood he needed to stay warm.
Warwick placed the bucket back up then turned and made his way back down the hillside. His boots dug deep into the cold, wet earth. A covey of quail darted across the game trail ahead of him, among them a particularly fat one. Warwick crouched down and looked below the brush. It was difficult to spot the quail through the fog, but Warwick was a seasoned hunter and tracker.
