a dream is a wish your heart makes

A constellation is nothing more than the product of a connect-the-dot game played by bored skygazers. It is meaningless to those who do not see it. Just a collection of stars and imaginary lines.

But to one man, the Vulpesha constellation meant the world. So much that he decided he wanted the celestial jollin as his own pet. It just so happened that this man was also a powerful wizard, and so was able to steal Vulpesha from the sky and bind her to the earth in the physical body of a petite jollin.

The wizard imprisoned Vulpesha in his home as a pet and shortened her name to Esha. Unbeknownst to him, this bound her to her physical body by simply stripping her of her identity as as constellation. He never allowed her to see the night sky in an attempt to further alienate her from her home, even going so far as to close the blinds when night fell.

He quickly learned that she could grant wishes. He became overwhelmed with greed and would withhold food if she refused to grant his wishes. Naturally, his home was soon filled with riches and beautiful things, and one very sad jollin.

Esha lived in his home for ages, each day longer than the next. The starry markings on her coat faded, along with the nebulous patches of colour, leaving her almost pitch black. The astral smoke that trailed from her body withered into all but invisible tendrils. She was sick and dying, and the wizard paid no mind.

She finally managed to escape one afternoon when he neglected to shutter the window after having it open to dispel the pungent odor of the potion he was brewing. Out the window she sailed, smashing through the glass without heed for the cuts that resulted. The daylight burned her eyes, but she didn't care. She ran as fast as she could, vanishing into the forest around his home.

Come nightfall, she slinked out of the forest and was greeted by the sight of her beloved sky. The stars glistened in her tearful eyes and her fur, revitalised by the starlight that bathed it, illuminated the night. Smoke billowed from her coat and eyes, and she stood waiting for the sky to sweep her into its loving embrace.

It didn't happen.

Nina is Esha's mother, in short, and is the one who will eventually be responsible for returning the stars trapped in her body to the sky. Esha is optimistic about this outlook, though she currently has no idea the end result, and is very thankful to Nina for her efforts. However much it worries her how long Nina is taking, she trusts that her mother is doing all she can.

esha was indeed created on 11 Nov, 2011 at 11:11:11pm. i timed it to the exact second. it may seem silly but i always make a wish at 11:11, so when 11-11-11 rolled around last year, i knew i wanted to do something a little special. and so, esha was born!
