description

It's January 1st and you’re on the beach.

It's 4:30 am and the world is still. In front of you is the endless ocean, lit up by a silver crescent moon. You can hear the sound of the waves crashing on the sand, a soft buzzing in your ears.

You can see the soft glow of a fire far in the distance, on the other side of the beach. People are alive in this new world.

It's a new year and a new you. The old self has died as the clock struck midnight. This year will be different, just like this moment is like nothing before.

--

It’s January 1st and you’re on the beach.

But.

There’s snow on the beach.

It’s January 1st and you’re sitting in a cold bus stop in the middle of nowhere. Behind you is a flickering beat-down ad sign for some travel agency. Pictured is a non-descriptive stock photo of a beach. The slogan reads ‘Trade your worries for sunburn and regret (just kidding, kind of).’

The harsh fluorescent light of the sign illuminates a puddle of brown melted snow in the street in front of you. As much as you try to ignore it, the flickering sound the sign emits is just making your headache worse.

In the distance, you can see the orange glow of a single street light lighting up an empty intersection. There's no one in this old world.

The bus is late, and your phone is dead. And even if you close your eyes, you can’t pretend you’re anywhere but sitting in this lost bus stop waiting for a bus that might never come.

New year, same old world, same old self.
