about ten or so. a 'reaper' (an angel tasked with the responsibility of easing humans into the afterlife), who comes in the guise of a small puppy. due to the nature of his job - guiding the spirits of other children - and his everlasting youth, he was given the nickname 'runt' by the other angels. despite everything, he really loves his job - he loves making the other kids happy, and helping them cope with what lies ahead. everyone can see him; parents, doctors, nurses, kids. but only the kids can talk to him, and hear him. he is assigned to the kids (0-12) as soon as they appear on his bosses ledger; this could be a month, week, or just hours prior to their final moments. the amount of time depends on how long it will take them to accept their fate and face it without fear or regret. this gives family and friends time to say goodbye and the child to have a happy last few moments.
