"Hello!"
You hear a squeaky voice say.
"Down here! I'm down here."
You look and see a little nuclear priggle with a bush growing out of it's back, she smiles kindly.
"Hi! I'm Chia Pet. People call me that I guess because I have a shrub growing out of my back, but that's what radiation does to you."
Radiation? Well she is a nuclear pet. You again look at the priggle and she gazes back up at you.
"Could you do me a favor? My owner isn't around at the moment and I need to be watered."
Watered?
"The shrub on my back needs to be watered or it gets dry and hurts my back. Could you please water me? I would do it myself but I can't reach my back, and I can't swim."
Awww.
"The watering can is just over there by the pond. Please my back is starting to ache."
You look at the watering can and look back at the priggle and see a painful look on her little face.
"I won't bite you. If you're worried about the radiation it's okay, I don't give off radiation any more, I've been cleared. Please water me?"
You walk over to the pond grab the watering can and dip it in the pond to fill it up. The priggle comes running over with a look of extreme pain on her face. You begin to sprinkle water on her back, she instantly looks relieved.
"Thank you so much! You are my hero!"
The little priggle hugs your leg, and you feel good that you helped.
"Thank you kind stranger. I don't have anything to offer for you help but I can tell you a story. Do you like stories?"
You didn't really have any plans and it is such a beautiful day out. You decide to stay and sit down on a near by rock.
"Yay, you're going to stay!"
The priggle runs over and sits in front of the rock.
"Believe it or not I built this garden from the ground up. When I was born here it was a horrid waste dump and not safe. It was amazing that anything lived here. Barren grounds, polluted waters and garbage everywhere."
The priggle looks at the ground, there was a sorrowful expression on her face.
"A lot of us that lived here were weak, ill and didn't live very long. Most had become disfigured from the hazardous materials that were dumped there decades ago. I didn't develop this shrub until I fell into a puddle that must have had nuclear potion remnants in it. After a few weeks I had this full grown bush on my back."
She sniffles, wipes her nose and looks back up at you.
"Goodness I'm so sorry! I wanted to tell you a story not upset myself. Let's get past all the hardships. At some point I was tired of the living conditions and how miserable the inhabitants were. I rallied a bunch of us together and we set out on a journey to get help clean the land. We headed to Peka Glades because there were stories of the water there having mystical powers. It took us about three hours to get there, the longest walk any of us had ever taken. It was the most beautiful thing we had seen. The greenest plant life, clear water and fresh air, it was paradise. The only problem was that we couldn't get in it was closed. None of had knew that it was only open at a specific time, we were heart broken."
The priggle inhales sharply.
"It's that time again already, would you mind giving me another sprinkle?"
You grab the watering can and water her back again, she sighs in relief.
"Thank you so much again! Sorry my owner is usually here to do this but she's out on a supply run. Anyway back to the story. As we sat there and regrouped a pretty young lady walked out of the park. She seen us sitting there and walked over to us. She said her name was Emma and she was the person who had discovered the glades. We explained our problem to her and she was upset to hear about the conditions we were living in. She offered to help us and we were more than ecstatic! We had to wait until later that day to get back in the Glades, so she took us to her shop. Her shop was amazing! There were so many beautiful flowers and it smelled wonderful. She said she had a friend named Esther who was also a gardener and that she could help us out too."
The little priggle climbs up the rock and sits next to you.
"Emma packed a bunch of supplies for us and called Esther to have her meet us at the Glades. When opening time came around we went and met Esther and she brought even more supplies for us. They gave us trash bags, seeds, gardening tools, fresh soil and special pitchers filled with water from the Glade. Emma even gave us a wagon to put everything in! We were so grateful for everything but had no way to repay them. Esther told us cleaning up the lot would be payment enough. We thanked them for everything and made our trip back to the lot, taking turns pulling the wagon the way there. When we got back everyone pitched together to clean up. First we had to clean up all the trash, there was so much more than we had thought there was. After all of it was cleared out we had to till the dirt and add the soil to it. We had to improvise and used scrap metal to make a plow. Once that was done we just had to figure out what was going to be planted where. None of us had any idea so we just planted as we went. Emma said the last thing to do was pour the Glade water into out water supply and water the plants with it. All of that work took about four days. After a week we had things sprouting everywhere! Minions and other pets started to live here and help out."
The look on her face, so happy filled with joy, just warms your heart.
"About a month after that we had our first human visitor! She was amazed at what had become of the once polluted dump and wanted to help us out. She's now my owner and makes our supply runs. On occasion Emma and Esther visit too. They love what we did so much that they harvest a small amount from us and sell it at their shops. We even had the health department come out and make sure the ground was safe to be on, they said the water from Peka Glade filtered out all the toxins that were dumped there. Years have gone by now since then and this place is thriving. I couldn't be happier!"
You hear a voice calling in the distance, the priggle becomes excited.
"That's her! She's back! Thank you again so much kind stranger for watering me and listening to my story but I have to go! Please come back anytime!"
She hugs your leg again, hops off the rock and runs off into the bushes. You take in the beauty of the park with a new perspective and go about your way home.
