profile
Way back in 2004 me and a friend were watching Celebrity Death Match, where Marilyn Manson fought Charles Manson. At the end of the episode they played Marilyn Manson's music video for "Tourniquet". After watching the video my friend said that her dad had a Manson CD and that maybe she should find it.
I went to her house the following weekend and she had found the CD and it turned out to be Mechanical Animals by Marilyn Manson. She put it on and as it played we looked at the lyrics booklet but the lyrics in the songs weren't matching the ones in the booklet. I looked over the CD and the case, the disk had no names on it and had a different year than the case it was in. I figured it was in the wrong case but the same band because the CD and the case had the same record label. So I was listening to the music and I was starting to like it. As a young teenager ready to rebel and break from being seen as the quiet nice person. The themes of pain, heresy, and sex spoke to me, it was exciting.
A few weeks later I was still listening to that CD. One night I was watching I Love the 90's. They were showing the rockers of '94 and they played a clip of a music video one of a song I thought was Marilyn Manson. I was really confused because it was a completely different band. I went to my parents' room because they were watching it too, I asked them what is was. My dad told me it was from The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails and he had one of their tapes I could listen to. I loved it as much as the CD. NIN's music has greatly impacted me as a person. It was an outlet for all these feelings and emotions i didn't understand and the fact that I just like the darker things in life.
Each item in the TC represents an aspect, album or song from nin.
A Very Brief History
"Nine Inch Nails, abbreviated as NIN also sometimes stylized as NIИ, is an American industrial rock project, founded in 1988 by Trent Reznor in Cleveland, Ohio. As its main producer, singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, Reznor is the only official member of Nine Inch Nails and remains solely responsible for its direction. Nine Inch Nails' music straddles a wide range of genres, which include Industrial rock, industrial metal, alternative rock and dark ambient."

Pretty Hate Machine
[1989]"Head like a hole black as your soul, I'd rather die than give you control"
Debut album, it's brash with synth and drum loops. Lyrics include themes of love and faith; in god, humanity and one's self; lost. The visuals form album art to videos are distorted and raw. Not the best not the worst 6/10
The Downward Spiral
[1994]"The ruiner's got a lot to prove, he's got nothing to lose and now made you believe"
The album that introduced me to NIN, from start to finish it is a masterpiece. It's thick and heavy with synth and mechanical sounds with layers of vocals. It covers themes of depression, self hate, addiction, and decaying mental health. The visuals from album at to music videos are dark and mechanical. Melts my brain 10/10
The Fragile
[1999] "and I descend form grace in arms of undertow, I will take my place in the great blow"
With Teeth
[2005]"there is no love here and there is no pain, everyday is exactly the same"
The first new album released after I started listening. This one doesn't have a heavy industrial sound but has heavy electronic sounds and guitars. It deals with self worth, how the world effects you and recovery. The visuals for this are digital and shifting. Saw them live during this era 8/10
Year Zero
[2007]"I got my violence in hi-def ultra-realism, all a part of this great nation. I got my fist I got my plan, I got survivalism"
Year Zero has a lot of synthesizers and digital sounds. It has themes of civil unrest, greed and corrupt government. The visuals for this album appear like propaganda digital surveillance. I have a whole head movie for this album 9/10
