Upcoming Changes for Accepted Payment Methods in the Cash Shop

Hi everyone! We've gotten some important information from one of our payment providers, and we wanted to pass that information along to you. Per the Ultimate Game Card website, the Ultimate Game Card and Ultimate Points will be retiring later this year, specifically, September 30, 2014.

September 30th is the day that the company who makes the cards will stop allowing their redemption, so that will also be the day that Subeta stops accepting the UGC as a payment method. We'll remove it from the Cash Shop at that time.

If you have any remaining cards or points, we recommend using them up as soon as you can, to avoid any issues from the processor. If you're looking for another method of payment that is similar to the Ultimate Game Card, we recommend purchasing Visa or Mastercard gift cards, which you can find just about anywhere, and using them on Stripe.

Of course, if you have any issues with your purchase or any questions about this transition, please don't hesitate to make a ticket. Thank you!

Thank you for letting us users know. I don't have a PayPal account and don't have plans on getting one as was pointed out by other users below. Gift Cards an option however. Thank you for pointing that out.

Because I don't have a paypal (and I really have no plans of getting one.) I loved using the UGC cards. It was safe and fast and I'm really going to miss the UGC cards :( I may never get csc again. *sob* I'm glad they gave people a heads up. I might just stock up on some UGC before Sep rolls around.

It was a really great SAFE/ NO FEES option for people who don't feel comfortable doing things online with their money. Would you guys be willing to collaborate with another site that offers this at all?

@Lorax (Do we have to spend the CS points we bought with UGC before Sept? Or is our CS points still safe? )
I would also like to know because I have pts from them too.
If we turn them into csc cards would that work?

For the Visa/Mastercard its a $4-5 fee for each card you get (the giftcard kind). If you get the debit/creditcard kind, there are so many fees and stuff it makes my head spin. So the best option is to use paypal, it'll save you a bunch of money in the long run.

Ah man I really liked using the UGC's.
This is not good news :c

...and now I'm sad. :(

UGC was what I mostly used to support subeta. Damn. I hope subeta doesn't end up losing a bunch of profits from this. :x

I do not know why people are so worried.. if you can buy a gift card...it's basically the same thing..if they are owned by the same company..then having a separate points card is completely redundant.. and especially if the gift cards are cheaper for this site to process :) I use paypal

Am I wrong, or arent there paypal giftcards? Maybe not, but for some reason I feel like there is something other than one with fees/bank account needed.
Or just do what I did as a young'n, have a parent use their paypal to buy, give them your cash. No fee. Easier than going to a store 8U

I was going to suggest contacting Visa to see if they are going to come out with a similar product but.. Since Visa owns the company UGC and the alternative is to buy the VISA gift cards AND they get extra money from the activation fee.. Well, that's probably not going to happen. Another big business just found a way to get it's customers to pay even more for the exact same products. I doubt they would release an alternative when they will be making more money off of people this way. Very typical of what I've seen corporations doing lately.

Will there be an other way for us to have a way to pay direclty with our bank accounts?
I liked it because I didn't have to go out and buy a card.
And I don't want to have to pay an extra 2-5$ every time I try to add csc to my account.

Thanks for the heads up! I loved using them as much as I could, so I better get a few before September so I can stock up the CSC's for later on.

This was announced by them on Facebook about a week ago.

in the UGC method, I was able to choose many methods, and I always paid an account in the bank, without needing pre-paid cards or credit cards.
Also, I wouldn't mind if the visa/master card gifts were present at Brazil, but I never saw them anywhere.

StarShadow

Well that's too bad. I enjoyed sticking an UGC in birthday/Xmas cards I mailed to friends who play Subeta as a little extra surprise. Sorry guys no more cards to send to you.

Interesting development.

The UGC cards were nice while they lasted. That was the only way I could help out the site. Since that method is gone now I won't be able to help out like I use to anymore. I guess I'll have to quest as much as possible and buy cash shop items from user shops ^_^.

Look at all the game sites besides subeta that use UGC cards. Won't all these sites lose a lot of money from this? Not everyone has a credit card or can get one so other payment options I can't use. One time use credit cards have extra fees attached to them if you read the fine print on the cards before considering purchasing one from a store. I know the ones sold at CVS Pharmacy do that's why I won't get into those.

ah thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't 100% positive.

DallasDanielle

So does anyone know if they will be going through another prepaid card company so we have a way to buy prepaid cards to buy our CSC?
0

Lorax

Quest

Oh so paypal and stripe will be the only methods now!
I hope people start using stripe more instead of the UGC.
It's hard to get people change from one thing to the other :/

Not only that, but means lesser plastic going into landfills!
What a shame, I've always purchased my UGC codes from OffGamers website for the premium points they give which allows me to get free UGCs. Look Ma...no landfill issues here!!

lovecraft

Time to switch over to paypal after I redeem in my card I bought yesterday. My reason for UCG was so I didn't over spend buying CSC. I could get a $25 card a week and be safe. Paypal and Stripe may cause a dent in my wallet. :( Oh wells.

UGC cards, as far as I have known about them, have always been in thick card stock..... paper. I doubt plastic in landfills will lessen when the UGC cards are gone.

@Keith
Thank you for the answer, that does make a lot of sense for VISA to just eliminate just an extra expense. Not only that, but means lesser plastic going into landfills!

@Taters
I believe people under the age 18 cannot buy visa giftcards. UGC card were purchasable by anyone, but I do believe visa cards/giftcards mastercard giftcards, AMEX gift cards, etc, you have to be over 18. I believe it's an issue with having to show some form of ID.
0

Britney

well atleast we have till sep
0

cahoots

NOOOO!

Oh well...
0

Taters

I dont use them so no biggie here, and guys who are complaining about it being gone: as it says up top, most places that have ucg for sale will also have visa/mastercard giftcards which work just about the same but can be used on wayyy more websites. And I think they are more readily available outside of the usa. Yeah it sucks that a method is going away, but its not subetas fault. The company seems to be going out of buisness.
0

Britney

Uh i am upset by this because this is the way I buy csc .
0

CATNIP

uuuh I see bad bad things happening because of this. *ducks and hides*
0

Exie

:/ This sucks. Guess i won't be buying csc anymore.
I always use UGC cuz it was easy to get my hands on.
0

Lyric

So any plans to collborate with another "gift card" type company? I'd rather not use paypal if I can help it.
0

Isa

Thanks for the well in advance heads up.

PLEASE think of international users without credit cards when you think of new methods. Paypal won't allow me to use my bank account to make transfers so UGC is the only way I can support Subeta.
0

CrazyKathy

I can't use Stripe any more cause I don't have cell phone any more to get the confirmation no.
so I will be using paypal.
0

Blanche

Thank you for the announcement!
I hope PBC never stops offering their other payment services ;-;
0

Wolf_Spirit

Activation fee I mean, not service fee...
0

Wolf_Spirit

Another thing to remember is that there's a service fee on top of the Visa/Mastercard's face value of around $5 I believe or so.

If you do buy a Visa or Mastercard gift card just make sure you read their terms of use carefully. Some of them charge monthly maintenance fees if you still have a balance on them, like ones from Green Dot.
0

Wolf_Spirit

I bought one UGC and vowed never again as it brought me nothing but grief. I use PayPal anyway, so it's all good. Nice to know that Stripe accepts the Visa/Mastercard gift cards, however.
0

Drusilla

Also you can connect the Visa/Mastercard gift cards to Paypal just like a credit card, so there's another point in favor of them.
0

Keith

@METROID Playspan (the company that makes them) was purchased by VISA last year and so they're sort of winding down a lot of the business they don't really need to be in. Since VISA sells the gift cards, they don't need a whole separate thing to do essentially the same thing.

(Also it's way cheaper for us to accept the gift cards than it is for us to accept UGC)
0

METROID

As long as Paypal always remains an option, I can happily say this doesn't affect me!
But I have bought UGCs in the past, and I'm sad to see them go. Wonder why they're retiring...not enough consumer purchases to stay afloat?
0

Stakely

Thanks for the info! I actually purchased my first (and now only) UGC card this past weekend. Gladly use paypal though so no worries!
