Get Your Brew On: Voting!
Submissions for the Get Your Brew On contest are officially closed but voting is open for all!
Almost 300 submissions will show up anonymously. This is to keep the contest from becoming a popularity contest. That means you should not post or give hints on the forums or anywhere else on which submission is yours during voting. Your idea should speak for itself. ;)
Voting will be closing at 11:59pm on September 28th. You can vote for 5 microbrews.
Remember to judge based on what kind of drink is most appealing to you. Don't just go for the best image, take the time to read all the descriptions and everything else provided!

There were some really great submissions!
I actually enjoyed reading peoples logo descriptions, and I hope this way of doing contests works well so we can do it again.

Could we have a (moderated) discussion topic for these either with the caveat of not discussing your own work. If no mods are willing to take it on, can we keep the submissions archived and open the topic after voting is closed? It's a real shame to not be able to comment about the work.

You guys should just open a brewery shop and sell all of them... There were too many I wanted to vote for, getting this down to five was hard.

Meh, mine didn't even make it. Someone had a very similar name to my entry, and the description is much better than mine. I suck at creative writing anyway. XD
It's nice to know the voting page randomizes the order of the entries every time the page is opened, because, based on the nature of people and the comments here, few people are going to go past the first few rows of entries.
Good luck to the entrants! :D

@Ariel
You may want to reannounce voting and let people know that one or more of their choices may have been removed due to copyright infringement so people can add another vote (or two).
I didn't realize anything had been pulled and was going to check again just to be sure I didn't want to change any vote when I saw that suddenly I'd only voted for 4 of 5 instead of the 5 of 5 I knew I'd done =/

I too, noticed that quite a few of the images I saw certainly were not images that the entrant had created themselves. Some were google images, and people had just slapped their logo on it. What I find strange is how entries like that even made it onto the site at all. They might have looked really beautiful, but sorry, if the artwork isn't your own (or if it's not a free-to-share image) then entries like that are most certainly not getting my vote. I would rather give votes to entries that have been created by the owner. Sure, they might not be as pretty to look at, but at least it's their original work. That being said, good luck to the entrants. :)

I can understand Subeta being cautious and pulling entries found to have heavily used google images or otherwise copywrite materials. Copywrite law is one great big massive grey area and it varies from country to country. What might be acceptable in one area could be a total no-go in another. They're protecting themselves and their users from potential backlash. That said, if someone were to create an entry that utilized stock photography (that had been obtained from either a free site or had been paid for) then I feel the entry should be permitted to stay. Perhaps, allow the artist to provide a link to the stock site they obtained the image from?
Maybe in the future Subeta could provide a small packet of stock photos for contestants to use? I'm thinking mockups of various beer bottles. Also, perhaps have two categories? One for written and one for illustrated?
In either case the contest was interesting, I'd like to see more like this in the future.

I'd just like to say that Google is a search engine that aggregates peoples' work. A "Google image" is a just a link to a digital picture that someone created. If you are taking this, putting your name on it, and submitting it for a contest, that's stealing.
You'd think at least the CW crowd would understand art theft and copyright at this point.
Digital graphics and photos belong to real people. They don't just magically appear from the Great Google Wizard. A person put work and effort into creating something that you're trying to claim as your own. It sucks that image-less entries will be overlooked, but I thought it was great that Subeta gave non-artists an opportunity to participate without needing to commission others.
Not sure why basically "NO STEALING, COPYING, OR OTHERWISE CHEATING" has to be delineated as its own rule?

Slightly sad I didn't have time to enter my idea, but without a picture it would just get lost in the sea of descriptions anyway. >_< Maybe pages next time, or filtering the entries down a little?

Making a rule for myself to stick to the Subeta related ones so that's weeding a few out, but I am loving that there are so many ideas that are really relevant to this world rather than RL!

Voted. Granted it took a lot of skimming over titles and descriptions to find and finalize my top four (fifth vote was for my own entry).
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. Voting is not set in stone and can be done one at a time until all five votes are in if need be. Find a brew you like? Good, vote for it. Refresh. Repeat. It's not that difficult. The only thing that takes the most time is reading through each entry. If the title or descriptions aren't flattering move on to the next one. Voting will end in nearly a week (five days from now). There is more than enough time to vote.

tbh kinda sad there's no Blood/Bludweiser, "most popular brew underground/for undead" tho at that point i guess it's not a micro brew anymore
(also it's an obv parody so it prob wouldnt be accepted which makes me more sad bc bad jokes are my life tbh)

Alright after reading through about 100 brews, I am genuinely tired of reading :c There should be like, a rule of thumb that for contests with more than 100 entries, pages be assigned where you have a ratio of one vote per page or something (so for this contest [let's round it to 300 for simplicity] 30 pages or 10, or 10 pages of 30 would be a lot nicer to get through and you'd end up with either 30 votes or 10 votes respectively.) Gives everybody a little more room in choosing and you don't feel so overwhelmed. Back to my reading now ;o;

Hmmm... after this I really want to see a similar contest but for all drinks rather than just brews. (I'm not a beer fan, cider is ok) Perhaps it could be split up a bit though, like one group of just wine to vote on with winners, one group of mixed drinks with it's own winners, etc.?
I actually loved getting to see the whole lot of submissions :D

Anyway, I liked the imparciality. Sometimes these types of contests are just a popularity contest.
I just hope people aren't asking for votes like they did asked support on Peka-Boo, with random gifts and random comments.

We could wait 2 or 3 days to staff pick the best ones and then select the top 50 so we could vote, some brews are very lacky on description/concept. 300 is a lot to read, very time taking x_x just read 100-ish, everytime I stopped in one I liked, I refreshed the page (and voted for mine, too lol).

Wow! There were a lot of great items. I actually read them all. Boy, I need a life *hangs head* I ended up with over 20 that I would have liked and had to narrow it down. I was really hoping I was the only one with my particular theme/genre but it seems that I wasn't. There really are some popular ideas it would seem lol

I understand why google images would be removed in a normal contest. But in this one, it specifically said that our images wouldn't be used, that it would be drawn by staff, so any images are just references/mock-ups, not what's expected to be used for the official item.

I don't understand the whole google image thing. I assume when I see people do that and if you read their description, it shows how they similarly want something. Not exactly like the image but gives a better understanding of what they are going for. Eh.
But I am with others, I didn't read ones with long descriptions. It took long enough to go through them just looking at items titles and shorter descriptions. Should have been another way to vote then all on my page.

I know you guys did some prescreening but there are some that still are copyright infringement/ images taken straight from google
Also I was wondering what the policy for incorporating google images to make their own was because there are quite a few of those as well.

Holy amounts of entries.
Honestly, I can't stand huge descriptions on things so I skipped all those, no matter how pretty of a picture you have, if your item description takes up my screen when I'm going to hover on your cider/beer/etc., nope.
Picked 4 so far... quite a few others that I'm going to have to weigh for a bit for a 5th, wouldn't have minded being able to choose 10.... you really need to quit doing that to us when there are like.. a billion (give or take a few) entries.
To whoever did the cellardoor, you just made my day. I love you, you beautiful person.

In all honesty, I won't read every 300ish descriptions, like many others :/
I'm one of those who'd look at the drawings/icons, and vote based off that rather than sitting down for the next two hours with a pen and paper to note down which entries I thought were the most coherent/creative overall.
I understand that you want to give everyone else a chance, but you need to be pretty dedicated to read all this. Even in the case of cw or HA contests, it was easier because all you needed to do was browse through images. A little filtering would be great next time!

With this many entries, maybe a different voting system would be better next time.
For example, maybe we could flip through the entries and rate each one 1-10 points. Perhaps there could be a meter that tells you how much you have done. That way we could rate all of them without reading 300 at once, and we could do it over the course of a few days. If they came up in a random order for each user, each entry would still be seen the same amount of times even if a user doesn't rate all of them.
Then the overall points for each entry could be used to determine the top five.
I don't know. Just another system that doesn't require reading all of them at once, and remembering each one of them long enough to narrow it down to the top 5.

@Amber @Ariel why are ciders allowed? I did some digging and ciders are in their own class - not quite beer and not quite wine. If it's not a solid type of beer, then why would it be allowed?

I normally don't bitch unless there's a reason for it. At the end of the day, there are 6 qualified submissions that are missing from the pool of 300 due to oversight. The phrase "All 300" translates to 300 entries to choose from. It doesn't get much clearer than that.
I counted those rows over and over again, and @Lag double-checked as well.

Also if you're on a pc and are searching for keywords like the name of your own hit ctrl + f and a FIND function will pop up makes it so much easier with big lists on here lol

@Ariel the fact is that it should be reminded for each contest and in a clear, concise and front and center way. It shouldn't be something that's just "remembered" as something like that can be forgotten in the excitement of the contest.

You can't submit content that wasn't yours, that's been the same across the board. I wasn't involved in the screening this time, but for example: we had a lot of entries for our cake contest that were just images people took from other sources. That isn't fair and isn't allowed.

@Ariel if images from Google aren't allowed, then that should be in the rules. I never saw anything that said google images weren't allowed as some people can't draw and 500 characters to describe a label isn't enough for some people

With so many entries, I think it may have been better to have more than one round of voting. Vote for the top 50 and then the top 5. Good luck, everyone.

@Ariel I don't remember seeing any kind of pre-screening being mentioned for this contest. I think that anyone who entered should've been given a chance in the voting and not eliminating only a few. There should also be something that tells you if your uploaded image is too big on the submissions page so that there are no disqualifications over image size issues.

@Wolf_Spirit I think if people really love one of the brew's, they'll change their vote. But if they reset the votes, people may not vote at all, again. Especially seeing as many entries as there are right now. I am sorry to those that haven't had their entry show up, though. But in general, giving users over 300 options was never the way to go about this :/

@Stiles the fact of the matter is that most people WON'T change their minds and if people are added late it doesn't give them a fair advantage

@Wolf_Spirit All the votes don't need to be cleared, though. They don't technically count until 9-28, and you can still change them I believe, until then. They need to add the few entries they did forget, however. Then edit this post to make everyone aware that wants to go back and check them out.

The amount of research some did is astounding, and it really shows dedication! I think it's also because of how many users don't drink irl, either cause of age or personal reasons. I can't because of the medication I take (even if I didn't take meds, alcoholic beverages just smell atrocious to my sensitive nose). So I absolutely have no idea about tastes or flavor palettes with drinks.

Yeah, I see mine. Nope, there was only one submit button. Hopefully for yours and anyone's whose isn't there it'll be fixed!
@METROID
I went through and counted and it came to 297 (although I could have miscounted a row). So if it is supposed to be 300 then a few must be missing o.o Have you tried refreshing the page? Because it's supposed to be randomized so perhaps some entries get left out on each refresh (though it's probably not a likely explanation).

Note: I've been refreshing to get the page to see if they're just rotating entries in and out or just randomizing, but mine still shows up even after a dozens of refreshes. This leads me to believe that there isn't any rotating in/out of entries on the page.

I guess it's too late now, but it would have been nice if there was a filtering process before it came down to user voting (an entry blatantly in hopes of a participation prize? Really?)

@Garyx
"All 300 entries" shouldn't mean 6 are unfortunately missing. All the more reason to break up the amount of entries to 20 or 15 entries per page. Less likely for staff to accidentally miss including entries. And now the voting will have to be reset on account of this mistake.

D: 300 entries? All on one page? Not randomized to show different ones on top each time?
Maybe next time, do a ranking system for users. Like, show 10 entries per page and have the user rank them 1-10; do 30 pages, 10 entries at a time until the entire group is rated. At the end, show the user their top 10 rated selections and have them pick their 5 favorites? Right now this is kind of overwhelming.
Out of curiosity, is this just a user picked win or are there staff picks as well?

Out of curiosity, is this just a user picked win or are there staff picks as well?

I think I've done it. I've managed to narrow it down to five entries which all had interesting names, decent visual concepts, actually say something interesting about the alcohol, and are comfortably related to the site. That said, I may still change a couple before the end.

Wow, that was a lot of work. I started by reading the item description and if I liked it, I read the bottle info. Lots of great entries. Good luck everyone! :)

We need your help! Please choose 5 of the brews below to vote for! You've voted for 5.
Make sure to click the vote button at the bottom!
Are my votes counted??? Even if I click vote at the bottom, it still does this.

Is it possible for the entries to rotate? that way it won't be the same entries on top all the time :) there's so many creative entries, it'd be a shame if some were missed because of where they were placed on the page~

I think it might have been a better idea to give each person a different randomly selected list of, say, 20 entries, and ask us to pick two. That's much easier than reading through 300 entries (!!!).

I'm starting to regret not putting some sort of image, now I'm afraid my submission will be overlooked (even though I find it extremely amusing)
Good luck to everyone! I feel like there could've been a better way to vote like maybe elimination rounds buuuuut this will do!

I actually only voted for ones without pictures :p the gluten/preservative/taste free one was hilarious

I definitely can see where those people who submitted with logos are going to have an advantage here. Unless people are using search to find something they're interested in - people are just going to look for images that catch their eye vs. reading 300 (really 300?) entries. Subeta couldn't have picked their top 20 and let us vote from there?

I kinda wish these had been filtered a little more (or at all if they werent) before letting us vote. I agree a lot of them are quite good but there are still a decent enough portion that seem like they have little effort. That's usually not too bad but when it's 300 entries we have to go through...

Balloon
omg the balloon girls one! (...yes, I might have searched for "balloon" on the entry page...) That gets my vote ♥

I tried to find mine, by using key words and see it isn't there. so kinda sad. :(
but great job to those that got picked...there are a lot to choose from.

Will the entries show up in random order? If not, the contest may favor entries that show up closer to the top simply because of how many entries there are.

Tbh, I want at least ten of these onsite, and at least ten more were also really cool. I mean I've done it, I narrowed it down in the end, but if there's ever a contest again that lets us vote on so many entries, please give us some more votes so we can honor the creativity displayed all over these entries.

Man, this was SO difficult to pick just five...I want all of them to be site items! So much wonderful creativity <3
Good luck to all =D

I clicked on quite a few and wanted to look over the ones I liked again. When I pressed "vote", I thought it would cut out the ones I didn't want, and allow me to review my selections. Instead, the vote button just automatically picked 5. These were not necessarily my final selection. Can you put in a review option??? I can't remember all of the choices and want to vote fairly. Thanks.

In real life the only beer I actually like are hard ciders/apple ales so those are the ones I chose here! I really loved the ones with specific descriptions, good job to those!

I only picked two with images. Some were short and simple, some where more detailed. There are two I am especially rooting for and no it is not mine.

I'll be 100% honest... I scanned for interesting names then read those descriptions and haven't even made it a quarter of the way through yet.

honestly wish i had the time and patience to go through all the entries though! we have some damn creative people here on subeta

wow.
this was hard.
people have a lot of imagination going on. i'm not sure i would actually drink any of the flavors i read but still.
the entries i liked the most were the ones involving Oatmeal and some of the NPCs
good luck! but maybe we can see more chosen brews :>

wow 300, impressive.
I read a good amount of them. Some of them are really creative.
I got my votes in, I had to change one of my votes at the last second cause I just love one way to much to not vote.
Can't wait to see what ones get picked! :D

Just a question - if I cannot find my own entry, it is just because I cannot vote on my own entry or is because it got removed for whatever reason?

Wow, this was alot of submissions to go through... Did staff narrow the pool a lot before the last big voting event went to vote or was the response to this event that much greater. O.O
Not gonna lie I feel kind of bad for some of the later entrants, because I doubt I'm the only one who isn't gonna read them all. I couldn't keep going halfway through the page and early on I started narrowing by the snappiness of the name.

I want to be fair and read through everything, but 300 entries! Don't know if I'll have time to do that, much less narrow down to 5 X.x

LunariaVonDelacroix
.... admittedly I didnt read through all of them. Because who has that type of time. But at least I got my 5 choices in. Ironically they was all ones without pictures because some of the ones that had them, well they felt halfa**ed. Just saying.

I had a hard time choosing 5, but there are some really interesting entries! Great job, participants :)

OK Team, I will follow your instructions and read all THREE HUNDRED descriptions. I do have to admit I jumped around to the images first time through but did go back and read some descriptions. My God, they're amazing! I don't see how I'm just to pick 5, but I will narrow it down. This site draws some amazingly talented users. Thanks for giving us several days to get through them all, I'm going to need every one of them. Congrats to all who were chosen for the vote, I wish all of you could win.

There's quite a bit of copyright infringement going on with some of these labels/names lmao

I do not have the time to filter through 300 entries ;o;
ones with pictures were just easier for me to filter through a lot quicker (sorry, everyone..!)

some of these were really creative and realistic! it was surprisingly easy to cast my votes as a picky drinker. :x

there's no way in hell I'm reading through 300 entries in full to choose that way tbh. I just voted on clever descriptions or names that drew me into them. (I suspect if everyone else is doing the same that salty ones gonna be in the top picks lmao )

I would like to give a kudos to some beverages for creativity, although you can't pay me enough to drink them!

"Remember to judge based on what kind of drink is most appealing to you."
It's beer. Literally none of them appeal to me.
Also, this is going to take some time. o-o
