Free Gift: Candle of Unity
We'll never get used to making tribute items like this. We will always spread love, and not hate.
Note: This is not the area to discuss gun laws. We ask you to use the comments here to remember the victims of this most recent tragedy, and all tragedies of this kind, and to share hope.

;n; Thank you for this. It's hard to hold onto grief and remembrance above being angry, even when the former is all I want to do. I have friends who worked with at least one of the young men at Disney, so this hit very close to home for them and it was difficult to watch. I hope that the world moves towards love. And I hope that all those lives lost will rest in peace.

Still can't seem to find any words, but want to add my thoughts and prayers for all those affected. May the memories of those who lost their lives be a blessing. May the living heal and recover. I will continue to pray for a world in which there will never again be any need for a tribute item like this.

Keep this candle burning bright for everyone who has been affected by this senseless tragedy. May it offer some measure of peace and light throughout the dark days that the victims and their families are going through.

We have all lost a great many people from this tragedy. Lights in the world blown out with hatred. The nation grieves with those families out there who have lost sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, wives, husbands, lovers. We should never be afraid to be who we are.

The Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A., at the Magic Kingdom lost a cast member in yesterday's shooting, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade lost a Gryffindor team member.

The art on this is just lovely. I saw it yesterday but was a little too emotionally hurt to say anything. I just can never understand why people will go out of their way to do this to each other. The entire act was senseless.

Love and support from your brothers and sisters in Hong Kong, our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones, the families affected and the community whose heart is broken. We held a vigil in the city tonight to remember those who lived, love and lost their lives needlessly. Please stay strong Orlando, we stand in solidarity.

The description made me cry. Thank you so very much for this tribute.
I'm at a loss for words at what happened and from Europe I offer my sincerest condolences and thoughts to all the victims and to the people that were left behind.
This just leaves me speechless. Especially since my baby sister just came out to me and I promised to take her dancing in an lgbt club, since she doesn't dare to go by herself.

@Cherri - They just announced that one of the victims who died had worked at Disney and at Universal's City Walk. Not sure if he was a cast member or an operating participant employee, or even whether he was currently working at Disney. He wasn't anyone I knew personally, but his loss is still felt.

If I did happen to offend anyone, I do apologize. I was just confused as to why it was rainbow, but now I understand. I wasn't aware that it represented all walks of life, ect, or it was even pride month.
I also wasn't aware the shooter was a homophone, I found that out like a half an hour after posting my comment, which makes me feel like a total fool.
Anyways, like I said, I do apologize. This is a horrific event, and I probably shouldn't have started something.

@Amanda - Oh wow... that is scary. I'm glad you're safe.
My sister was also thinking of going on Saturday but didn't. She has gone there quite a few times in the past. While I don't like her, it still would have broken me if she would have been one of the victims.
@SteampunkShadowLord - It is really surreal... I had to pass by there yesterday and use the detours. I felt nauseous and dizzy. I'm going to have to do the same thing today.
I've heard my friends and acquaintances call downtown Orlando a very LGBT friendly community. After the grieving process, I don't know what's next...

My first feelings were of disbelief, and then anger. It's just so utterly senseless. However, rage just fuels the hatred; surely it's just better to focus on love instead.
I hope everyone's loved ones are accounted for, and for the injured I wish for a speedy recovery. May the deceased rest in peace, and their loved ones find the same.
Also, thank you Subeta for the lovely tribute item.
Everyone, please be safe, and take care.

i don't understand why whenever tragedy targets a socially marginalized group there's always at least one person who has to claim that "it had nothing to do with that!"
it's so insensitive in a way i can't even coherently describe, there aren't any words for how it rattles you when you belong to a community that is victim to a hate crime as massive as this
anyways thank you for this tribute, and thank you to 99% of the rest of the comments here for being respectful and not trying to derail what happened

Bloody hell, cis straight people are even jealous when we get murdered now?
I'm pretty much 100% sure that any non-queer allies there would be honoured to be included in this memorial.

Also guys dont forget, blood isnt only needed in times of tragedy. So much is actually donated a lot goes to waste. Donate a few times a year even when nothing bad has happened to help prep for the bad! Its sad a lot of my friends irl only think to donate at times like these when blood is ALWAYS needed. Most of the year banks are way short on it, especially more rare blood types.
Of course do it now to help its a great cause, but remember it always helps no matter what time of year!

Oh god of course there are people here whining that it's not just about gay people guys!!!!
The intent was to kill gay people. The intent was to cleanse the earth of the evilness of gay people.
And thank you, Subeta, for acknowledging that homophobia is utterly stupid. We shouldn't divide ourselves up for no freaking reason, but we do. And it leads to things like this. Why don't we learn?

@peachtiny - At least on a temporary basis, Florida has lifted that ban. Members of the LGBT community will be allowed to donate blood due to the nature of the crisis.
On a related note, I think that the ban is absolutely insane. With the current medical technology, blood can be screened and tested for communicable diseases, and unless a person is confirmed to be HIV-positive or to have a communicable blood disease like Hepatitis-C, no one should be barred from donating blood or plasma.

As an LGBTQ+ member, I share the pain felt by others today. No one has the right to take someone's life away. This however is a wonderful way to remember and honor those who left us today. May they rest in peace.

I love this item, I wish it was wearable so that we could show some solidarity. Such an awful tragedy. It's also very sad to me that gay people in Florida (and the US) aren't allowed to donate blood to the people within their own community... they have to rely on others. But from everything I've read there has been a huge turnout of volunteers after news of this was released. Always look for the helpers. It will give you hope.

As a Floridian, my condolences go out to the family and friends, close ones to those who were lost in this horrifying event. I have never been more ashamed of my state and I can only ask for forgiveness from those who are now looking down from their heavens. I also hope for a quick recovery with no complications for those who were injured. My thoughts are with those who are ailed through these times.

One thing I love about this site is that we can all reach out to each other in times such as this. Thank you for making this art tribute to lives lost and families/friends aching over this. I appreciate the kind thoughts and I pray for families/friends for those who were tragically taken away too soon. RIP.

I'm watching the ongoing coverage on WFTV Channel 9 Eyewitness News, and it's absolutely surreal seeing that stretch of Orange Avenue cordoned off. A friend of mine works at the SoDo Target. @rivenshade used to work in the gift shops at Orlando Regional Medical Center and Winnie Palmer Hospital, just a few blocks north of there, and we know that neighborhood quite well. I've eaten at the Wendy's across the street from Pulse, and the Dunkin' Donuts right there, more times than I care to count. Two of my friends who I haven't been in contact with in some time would go to Pulse occasionally even though they were straight because they played good music and the drinks were cheap. For all I know, Matt and/or Stephanie might have been there last night/this morning.
I've been haunting the Disney cast groups on Facebook to verify that my friends and coworkers are all okay. It's just so strange and bizarre and just... wrong. This is Orlando. It's not supposed to be like this.

Oh, Jesus... may the Lord bless the families and accept their loved ones who fell victim to such a tragedy. I JUST read the news on CNN...wow. It certainly doesn't compare to the 9/11 massacre, but since then, yeah, last night was the worst tragedy in the past 15 years; OK that's just frickin' creepy, the time between them and now is so rounded... it better be only a coinkidink.
I wish any one on this site who knew anyone afflicted by this tragedy or any loved ones that were victims in last night's events the best of luck and condolences, and may something like this never happen to you again... Everyone should fell thankful that more people weren't harmed in the shooting, wether you live in America or not. I will pray for everyone, and hope all of you pray, too; even if you aren't of a godly faith (or any faith at all, for that matter), you can still pray for everyone affected!?

This has been a rough day. Tragedies like this are always hard to take, but I'm surprised at just how hard this one hit me. I feel like my family was targeted. It's incredibly sad. Don't forget to let the people around you know you love them.

So I've read some of the comments to get an idea of what is going on and it really saddens me to think (although sadly does not surprise me) someone could be this thoughtless and cruel. Just because someone may not like something doesn't give them the right to do something like this. It's too bad people like him cannot just be an adult and learn to just tolerate things they don't like in a quiet more productive manner. There are plenty of things I don't like, but I never even so much as intentionally make others feel bad for liking something I don't, and if I accidentally do so, I am always quick to apologize for it as soon as I am made aware.
This sort of act is completely beyond my comprehension to understand in any way. Although they are strangers to me, I will be keeping those killed and injured and affected by this in my heart and hope for a quick recovery for those still alive, and peace for the souls of those who are now departed. I hope karma has its retribution on the individual responsible for this unforgivable act.
I also have to say, this item is wonderful and is a good example of the wonderful kinds of people we have running this site. It makes me glad I came back to this site after my long hiatus. With people like the staff and the community here, I doubt I will be leaving again any time soon.

@Jiovanni:
A man, who was reported by his father to have recently expressed a lot of rage upon seeing gay men who dared to kiss one another in front of him, drove hours out of his way to commit a massacre in a gay nightclub. This act has been "claimed" by a group revolving around a brand of religious extremism that is notoriously violent towards LGBT people.
Yet your response to this is claiming that the fact that it was a gay nightclub had "nothing to do with it", and won't someone PLEASE think of the poor STRAIGHT PEOPLE?
Think about that. Sit and really think about that for a minute.

I mourn for the lost of the souls. I drive by Pulse ever day on my way home from work. It was always lively and the people who went there were lovely. I am so proud of my city for how we have been taking care of this, the over whelming number of people who have been at blood banks are so high they are turning people away.

Hey all. Rivenshade and I both live in Orlando. We're safe, we weren't even in the area at the time. And to my knowledge at this point, we haven't lost any friends. This was a terrible tragedy, and we're looking at going to donate blood tomorrow or Tuesday.
In light of today's terrible events, I'd like us to keep this in mind: "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'" - Fred Rogers

To the actual point though, this is a great and sad tribute. Its especially scary to me as myself and my parents worked not even a few weeks ago at Red Dress PDX and for something to hit so soon after, aimed at the audience of people I adored and was with that night its so sad. Even so many states away I just think 'what if it had been out event?'
Much love to the families of those lost, and I hope things start to get better over the coming days.

Yes but it was aimed at lgbt people. I think the rainbow stands for all humans and not just those in said 'list' as it gives everyone a part, thats why its a rainbow for the flag. It shows all the colours and doesnt discriminate.
With both the club and threats being made for a pride parade I think its fine to leave it at that. But its just my opinion xD

I really do like the tribute, and may the people who died, rest well, along with their families.
I don't want to cause things, but I don't see the point in this being rainbow, I felt it was unnecessary to make it an LGBT tribute. The fact it was a gay night club had nothing to do with it, especially since it was for everyone the night of the shooting.
If you want to be fair, add a mustache, considering it was Latin night or something.
Just me though. *shrugs*
LGBT people were not the only ones killed.

It's terribly sad and I wish safety to all those celebrating pride in their love today. I pray no more violence happens. Stop the violence, stop the hate.

This recent tragedy in Orlando absolutely breaks my heart. My best wishes go out to everyone who was affected. This is such a sad, horrible, terrible loss of life. I think I'm going to cry; this is so upsetting and wrong. I love all of you, and hope the best for each and every one of those families. To the victims - keep on dancing the night away, whereever you may be right now, and know you will be forever remembered in all of our hearts. You're not alone.

I'm so shaken up. I'm entirely on the different side of the country, but I think this is hitting everyone right now, and especially the LGBT community. I can only pray the death count doesn't get much higher from the wounded.

The tribute item is such a surprise, but a beautiful one and one that's definitely helped brighten such a harsh and admittedly terrifying day.

So sad, so senseless. Thank you for thinking of the victims & giving us the opportunity to express our concern and support for those poor souls and their loved ones.

theres just no words. i want to say so many things, but nothing comes out. all of this hate, fear and sadness just makes me feel completely empty inside and out. i'll never understand how people can do such awful things.. my heart, love, prayers, healing vibes--literally everything i can give--goes out to all of those affected by this senseless tragedy. the innocent victims, the people who had to walk in and see so much bloodshed, the doctors trying their best to save those already injured.. rest in love, and find the peace they absolutely deserve<3

Thank you for this.. As someone who used to frequent Pulse and only just recently moved from Orlando (Where I lived for more than 15 years), I'm still waiting with a sick stomach to hear if I'm going to have to fly back to a funeral. Rest well, everyone, we need to keep fighting for better days than this. :c

I don't think we ever get used to seeing them either. I just hope we can all find ways to help the people who have been left behind.

Thank you for this. Even if it's a small act, it feels important to express my solidarity with the victims of this horrendous crime and send my love to all those affected by the shockwaves of this tragedy. As a gay man, I've felt vulnerable and numb all day. It's just so destroying to see our safe space be torn apart. Sending my thoughts to all. <3

@Darkrai This is what I was thinking.. and they've said time and time again that tribute items depend on the artists who want to make them. And honestly not the place to bring in politics, not on this post. I think they said that too at the end of this post. Ali meant something to a lot of people and just because this tribute item exists today, doesn't take that away.

It probably has nothing to do with Muhammed himself, just a thought that hasn't come around. They don't usually make tribute items unless the person was directly involved in the young twenties' pop culture scene, which Muhammed Ali wasn't really, as great a man as he was. There have been plenty of people I've hoped for a tribute for too but haven't seen one for because they didn't play a popular Harry Potter character or something similar. Which I totally get, that's just probably why one hasn't surfaced.
This news was devastating to me this morning. I don't understand how some people can be so filled with hate.

I expected one as well actually. Free gift tributes can be tricky.
either way, it's always tragic when someone loses their life, and it's terrible that so many people lost their life in such a way. There's too much violence in the world.

Quote by @DjMexican:
What? That has literally nothing to do with anything, so why bring it up?Just cuz the killer was Muslim and Ali is Muslim doesnt mean he was a killer.
But you answered your own question. It's up to the artists, and unfortunately not every tragedy will end up getting a tribute.

May their souls find eternal peace and not be left to wander alone... May our prayers and thoughts be with their families as well in these hard times.

I'm not trying to downplay the deaths of 50 innocent people, this is a great tribute, but i expected an Ali tribute as well. He was a man that had no hate for anyone. If he did hate it was only towards those who had an issue with him. He was a man of a lot of love.

For so many reasons, this loss strikes a deep chord with many of us. Thank you for this touching tribute item. Hate may motivate a few, but it will never dominate the many. Love and peace to those who were lost, those fighting to recover, and those who love them.

I love my beautiful country, though we have our flaws. But we will always rise above the hate, and we will always love with both arms and hearts wide open <3 Rest in Peace all the lives lost, and may you be in a place where hate never knows true existence.

I understand for what has happen very sad yet. Those lives have been taken to soon in this world by a asshole, but why havent you guys made an Muhammad Ali one yet? Just cuz the killer was Muslim and Ali is Muslim doesnt mean he was a killer. I understand its up to the artist, but whatever man. R.I.P to all 50+ dead people may lord take away all your pain and be in joyfulness up there with him.

Thank you for making this tribute item to remember those who died in the Orlando shooting, Subeta staff. It truly helps that you guys reach out to all people from all walks of life, and that, no matter what, you guys never discriminate. Peace and love from Orlando, yo. Stay safe, everyone, and remember to be considerate.

*hugs* this is the first good cry I've had today.
My family and I are just... floored right now.
I keep telling myself, hate may have killed them...
But They Died for Love.

I just heard the news, it's so shocking and so deeply saddening. My heart goes out to the victims and their families.
This tribute item makes me proud to be a member here at Subeta. It is a touching gesture by the staff and artists here. Thank you for making this tribute. The description is making me cry a bit...
"There are no more words. May the gentle pulse of light and love warm you and comfort you in the dark, as we remember those that went to dance and love and live as themselves."

It looks like the Lake Eola fountain....
Subeta, you guys are so kind and sweet and thoughtful. I live in Orlando. I was downtown last night. I went to the Gogol Bordello concert with my family. It’s just… so close. Physically, because I drive past that club almost every day. And close to the heart, because this was an attack on the LGBT community, on the Orlando community, on MY city.
Thank you so, so much for this beautiful, poignant tribute item.

The candle is in the shape of Orlando's iconic fountain from Lake Eola. Also, the description...
I've been wanting to cry all day, but I can't. I guess the rain falling now is crying the tears that I can't.

What a beautiful tribute item, thank you for making something to remember the people lost to their loved ones because of irrational hate. I only hope our country can unite in love to stop these kinds of tragedies from continuing.
