I always want interesting expressions. This is a lovely smile: it's peppy but more toned down than

@Muerte Fair enough regarding the artist, but holy crap that is such a stupid stigma.

@Valiska
I meant that there is a stigma around people of darker complexions using bright, saturated, or colorful things (lipsticks, shadows, hair colors).
Subeta bases run dominantly neutral with some leaning warm. These lipsticks are more neutral based as well. They work well with all of the bases, at least for the most part and especially the natural skin tones. Slap them on and roam through the various skins. They work well, personal color choices aside.

Honestly, undertones be damned, these work with the bases because of how they're drawn. They have a slight outline that helps them not look super stark against any of the bases, but not dark/prominent enough to look like black lipliner.
Personal "I wouldn't use that color, I like more X tones" doesn't detract from that. Not saying wanting a broader range is bad, and we all want more of these in the end.

Also, just tossing it out there, but the artist that did these catered to herself and her base 7 HA. They were designed to work with darker bases.

@Muerte I'm not sure what you're getting at. Are you saying that the stigma is that people think brights can only be used by the more melanin-blessed? Or that people think muted colours don't work on the melanin-blessed?

This is a palette that only works well on people whose skin tones are warmer rather than cooler. IRL there are a lot of dark-skinned people who have warm skin tones (the original Color Me Beautiful book from the 80s wasn't racist and acknowledged that all 4 base palettes can be found in persons of any ethnicity).

But the green and blue skin tones that are offered on the site are extremely cool-toned, unless you layer them with dolls (which I would concede might look faboo).

In its original format, the concept of "seasons" placed colours on two intersecting axes: warm vs cool and clear/pure vs heathered/desaturated. The ones you want on or near your face will be the ones that make you look livelier and brighter, rather than washing you out. Some people are more washed out by the warm/cool axis, I'm one of the weirdos that can't wear heathered/desatted items near my face or I look twice my age.

You could make a dark or fantasy base avatar that is warm-toned, but I think you'd have to layer it with a lot of toning/contouring items.

We can take this out of the news comments lol, but I am really interested to see the combos you've come up with that you thought were fabulous, maybe I will agree when I see them?

I just like the fact they are less in your face than some other colours so bought them all!

@Valiska
Personal taste can most certainly play a part, but it isn't that they artistically look bad. There's a big stigma of color being used by people more melanin blessed, which can easily transfer over to something like Subeta so when we see brighter or generally colorful stuff we go "oh no, can't work, must be muted, nude, or dark"
And I did try them on the purples (and greens !), and I personally like them all. Some work better than others depending, but still. And it actually made me want to use base 17 (lighter pink-purple)

Overall I think people just want these in more colors that they'd use.

@Muerte I guess it is a matter of taste, because I tried them out in the wardrobe and I did not think they looked very good on dark bases. I thought that was why so many other people were asking for darker colours. Did you try them on purple or blue? Because I admit that I did not, but I can't imagine these colours looking good on a purple or blue.

@Valiska
I think you're the only one that mentioned they don't work on darker bases... These actually work really well on all of the base colors I tried (human skin tones + some various ones).
The way this artist tends to do mouths makes them very workable. The reason why I (and I think a couple of others) brought up skin tones is to make them work for makeupless HAs. They still work great but the only "nude" is the chocolate one, which is perfect for darker bases.

I like them, but as others have noted this set of colours is primarily going to be most useful to people who make "white" avatars using bases 1-4. The chocolate one is nice and I'll probably use it, but the rest of them not so much. They seem to be tailor-made for light-skinned avatars with "Spring" or "Autumn" complexions, who aren't exactly underrepresented on this site.

What would be nice is this mouth shape in "nude" shades for every base; there is no such thing as a single "nude" shade, and light skin isn't even the most common colour throughout most of the world. Including the fantasy colours, but the biggest need is to match with bases 6-10.

The green would actively clash with the green base skintone (as do most of the green lippies on site, sadly).

Oh no, my page timed out and posted twice. F

I agree. These are absolutely fantastic but it would be great if they can be used for more masculine HAs too since I'm lacking a good mouth for mine. @Ravers-Disease

NeonDinosaur

I really wish this came in a nude shade for more masculine HAs. I think maybe I can make dust work but it still looks like lipstick. I got the chocolate one for a dark skinned HA and I love it!
