Work in progress!
We're going to be in for a bumpy ride for the next few hours, there will be some tweaks made and the site will likely continue to toggle between online and off.
Thank you for your patience while we work through these kinks, once this is complete we will be much faster and be able to handle things like events significantly better.

Not complaining at all, I know stuff happens. I tried to create a ticket but I don't think it worked so I'm going to post it here:
I priced items in my shop on 11/14/19 and among those items were 4 or 5 mage amulets. I priced these at 450K, well below the lowest because that's just what I do. Much later when I logged on, I had the notification that I had shop purchases and when I clicked on it I noticed that not one amulet was listed in the sales history yet they are no longer in my shop. I've had quite a bit of sp in my till so I don't know if I received the funds from the amulets or even if they were purchased. This won't devastate me but I just wanted to report it.
Thank you,
If a ticket was actually created, sorry for posting this here.

I just tried to order my pet Shamu Neko's treasure chest and I keep getting this message instead: 343718 - 1
when I try and access the forums, I get a blank white page with this music: Database error - send this to Keith: SQLSTATE[42000]: Syntax error or access violation: 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MariaDB server version for the right syntax to use near ')' at line 1 (SQL: SELECT * FROM forum_groups WHERE groupid IN ())
soooo I'm reporting it here instead.

Would be nice to get an answer on whether or not we can re-do the quests that reset. Then again not sure how much difference it would make since the lag is so bad it's almost impossible to do quests and I have to leave for work now anyway. Hope everything gets straightened out today.

I appreciate all of the hard work and effort being put into making the site better, thank you!
I know things are still being worked out but it seems as if a few dailies have been put onto a 24 hour cycle instead of resetting at midnight. I don’t know if this is intentional or just another bug that you are still working on, but it seems like the Rift, Shinwa, Hustler and a couple other things don’t reset until 24 hours or more has passed.
Also, not getting alerts for Training Center and Minion Bonding, so manual and auto-alerts.
Just reporting what you probably already know. Thank you again!

Quests reset but these haven't yet- Rift, Safe crack, Hustler, Stargazer and Potion Lottery. Hopefully they will soon?
Wait a minute, the quests just reset again. I had already done Shinwa, Sag and Wiz and now they're all at zero. Does this mean we can do them again or not?

While I appreciate the free GA days, I don't understand the point of giving them to us before the site is actually back to normal. I've barely been able to load any pages the last couple of days. I'm constantly getting an "Application Error" page. (It took me about fifteen tries just to load this news page again, and I'm not convinced this comment will go through, since that's been massively spotty too.) The site's WAY too slow to do any quests, and I haven't even managed to get to the final step in my shop's autopricer. If the site's still under construction, that's fine, but wait to give us the GA medals until things are functioning the way they're supposed to and we can actually make any use of it.

IDK if this is where I am supposed to write this but I am still having troubles:
I have not been able to accept trades (they error and say they were cancelled).
I cannot send smails (the error is: "an error occurred. Please try again.").
I also cannot edit any of my posts, at all.
Anyways, I have no clue if other people are all having troubles with utilizing many of the site features still or not. Thank you for looking into all the troubles the update on Monday created. <3 <3

@Loten You seem to be missing the point that Subeta is a product that the Subeta staff is providing us. GA users are paying for the overhead and upkeep of the site (not entirely, obviously, but not a negligible amount, either), and thus generally we expect a certain level of service out of the product we pay for. Not to mention that, in lieu of an incredibly arduous attempt at NPC-ifying every single shop and site event, Subeta players personally provide a goodly portion of the product. Yes, I do absolutely as a paying adult member of this site expect a certain level of both professionality from the staff AND functionality of the site I help pay for, and I'd bet dollars to donuts that many of the GA owners feel (at least somewhat) the same way.
Do we understand that this site isn't run by Big Name Television Conglomerates or AAA game studios? Do we understand this is a small indie team of folks who mostly started out as volunteers? Of course we do. We also fully understand that server moves are at the will of the tech gods and that Subeta ETAs for server moves are a hopeful shot in the dark. That does not mean that users do not get to voice their displeasure to Staff when something seriously wrong is happening. Please note that none of what you're calling "complaints" are actual complaints: they are 1. concerns about the new analytics that may/may not come with hosting via Amazon and 2. the bug reports that Staff literally freaking asked for in the forums Both of which are completely valid, despite your attempts to invalidate them.

1.) I love Subeta!!!
2.) I miss it when it's down.
3.) I understand the need for downtime and maintenance.
4.) I am grateful to @Keith and all the subeta staff for all their hard work in developing, maintaining, upgrading etc etc etc in order that I can enjoy the ongoing experience of the FUN (for free I might add) of Subeta!!!!!!
5.) I just had to add my 2 cents to this thread, lol.
PS: I believe, I'm one of the oldest users here, I could have grandchildren playing here (if I HAD any I would definitely recommend subeta). I have no idea why I added this, I guess I'm feeling frisky and silly. Have a good night everyone!!

My avatar in the sidebar shows as a broken image that says, "User Avatar 700107" on it. Not complaining, in fact I have reason to believe this is on my end. I was just thinking I'd double check no one else has this problem before i start messing with by browser etc?

I don't mind the down time, I found this new thing to play with and it's sort of neat, they call it (I think, don't quote me on this) R-e-a-l L-i-f-e. For those interested, the programmers have a maintenance update thread here:

In case you want to know what's currently being looked into and fixed.
@Soleta For those who had their bathhouse reset, file a ticket to have it restored.

Just want to say I always love reading the explanations by staff (and other knowledgeable users) WRT the code side of things. Currently in a two-man team facing similar annoyances with deprecated code and plugins to the point we've decided to rebuild everything in another framework ? Big love from one smol team to another, and don't lose too much sleep ?

Nowhere did I say that people with GAs shouldn't complain, where are (multiple) people even getting that?
I just found it funny that most of the half-dozen usernames I see doing nothing but complaining every time anything happens are GAs because if I disliked a site as much as those few people seem to I wouldn't spend money on it.

@Loten
Sorry to complain, but did you ever think that GA users are more vocal *because* we pay money to have our GA's? That because we are spending real-world money we do expect something a little bit better? And that we keep doing it because the features are what we want, and we can hope that by doing so we can keep the site going for longer and allow for those the site to be better?
Now personally, I never expected this downtime would be just 4 hours. Heck when they said they expected to be back up by 10am Subeta time on Monday I didn't expect it. Because in the past these moves have always had hiccups (through no fault of the Subeta staff, mind you!) and it's really just not plausible to expect a very small team to move 15+ years worth of data in such a short amount of time with no issues.
There are plenty of other games that have monthly or even weekly maintenance periods where the site/game/whatever is down 12-24 hours or more to fix things with no reimbursement if it's a paid service or to anyone who pays for a premium account like the GA's here on Subeta. We are insanely lucky Subeta does not have downtime like this very often, and that when they do they are willing to reimburse lost time for GA's. I'd rather see the site be wonky for a few days knowing that a) they're ditching Amazon for a more up to date, easier to use, and not so shady hosting company and b) this move will make it easier for the staff to work on new features since they won't have to spend so much time fixing the server's crap.
I 'complain' plenty, and hold the staff accountable when they screw up, but in this case I know it's not their fault because something like this takes a lot of time and whatever mess ups are happening are out of their control so they can't do anything but put out fires as they arise until the site is back to where it was and then can continue to move forward into something better.

Notice how it's always the same few users complaining? (Nearly all GAs, too, which is... odd, not sure why you'd spend real cash on a site you never have a good thing to say about, but you do you.) Hopefully the staff have noticed that as well and won't let a few miserable people get in the way of an overall grateful userbase. This was a mountain of work and you kept us informed all the way through, thanks guys :)

Hi everyone! You might have gotten multiple pings to the Site Updates thread. One of them is correct, the other has a broken link, and you might have gotten one or the other or both. This is due to some glitches I had to work out from my first attempt posting the topic (which produced a glitched topic that I deleted)
Anyway, you can read the actual topic here: https://subeta.net/forums.php/read/906295/Quick-PostMaintenance-Updates/1/#64152063

And yes - Heroku is the new provider, so blocking them might have adverse effects on your experience on the site.
You're welcome to block new relic - it's a tool that we can use to see the "end to end" user experience, bugs, and how long pages load not just from a database perspective but also response from API, and how long it takes javascript to paint those things onto your browser. Some pages can take upwards of 20 seconds even if the database query takes 500MS, and that is unacceptable. So we're able to better track and make notes of those things now.

@frederick THANK YOU that is a great explanation! Bug is about to make a post in the site updates outlining something very similar.
Thank you everyone for the patience, and I understand those of you who feel frustrated! I'd tested a lot of these changes ahead of pushing them to Heroku, but unfortunately things never go exactly the way that you plan, and you can't really plan for every case that will come up on the site once you do move.
We've been spending yesterday and today smashing a lot of these bugs, and the good news is that we'd have had to at some point any way. The PHP provided on the Heroku containers is 7.3, we were running 7.1 in the past (the highest version amazon offered). A lot of the older code on Subeta is no longer... valid (and hasn't been for awhile) and at a certain point PHP decided to just make those things errors instead of warnings.
So we're resolving some much needed old code to work better, which should make the site much more enjoyable.

@CastlesInTheSky Heroku is Subeta's new cloud hosting provider. They moved from Amazon's AWS using Docker as a container to Heroku using their proprietary container (Looks like they call them 'Dynos'). Herokucdn is likely Heroku's content delivery network, and not ad or tracking related- it's to serve the sites they host and blocking may slow the site for you.
Newrelic offers application and environment analytics, which Keith could be using to monitor to the site to find bugs and keep and eye on overall site performance. So this may not be related to tracking and advertising. I guess blocking does no harm here?
Moving cloud platforms and changing your container is a huge undertaking for one or two people to handle. While it's been a rough move, it's not really unexpected that there's a ton of lag and errors. Can we laugh together then next time we see a sales pitch for a container that claims to be truly platform agnostic?

Yeah I mean, I can understand people being upset that this is taking such a long time, but its not like staff can just press a button and have everything be fixed automatically. Like do you think theyre not working on it or something? Do you think theyre just sitting in a room somewhere laughing at us getting frustrated about the site still having issues? Im sure they want the site to be stable again just as much as we do, it just doesnt make any sense for anyone to think that they would want it to be broken on purpose. Theyre not going to get as much ad revenue or CSC purchases or anything from a partially functioning site with barely anyone online, it doesnt benefit them at all.
Just try to be patient, and it will be fixed when its fixed.

I think we should all be thankful that Keith and the Subeta team are willing to spend all this time working on the site so we can all enjoy it. They arent getting any sleep and are probably exhausted so please everyone take this into consideration!

Exactly...people complaining about this are being childish. Yes, of course it sucks when a site we like is offline, but websites dont magically run themselves. They need work and maintenance to run properly, which is done by REAL PEOPLE who are giving up their time and sleep to do so. That alone should make us all grateful. Compare this to sites like Neo whose staff doesnt give a crap about their users, or modernizing or improving the site at all. So yeah, I am grateful that subeta has a staff that realizes that subeta is about its users and not just money, and constantly works to improve it for us.
Furthermore, there are many other websites and games out there, and better yet, an entire world outside of the internet. Find something else to do and stop badgering the staff.

Thanks to Keith and the Subeta staff, I hope you are all getting some much needed sleep. Im sure the new servers will be amazing once all the kinks have been worked through. Thanks for sticking with this over such a looong period.
@Evil - thank you for the links, they are very helpful - wasnt sure I remembered the exact urls

Quote by @Cassandra:
Cant speak for other users, but in my case I am grateful because I have been a software developer myself and have some idea what is happening to try to fix the site. I was lucky enough to be working in a large company with lots of developers and support and there were still times when I had to work long hours to fix/change things. Subeta is a small site with only a few people to do this work. So more than 24 hours of downtime usually means that someone (or a very few people) are diligently working to try to fix things and they are usually working mostly straight through with little sleep. So one thing I am grateful for is that, despite the size of the staff, they at least try their best to keep the site up and downtime to a minimum, rather than just shutting down for a day or a few days to do this sort of work, as they could easily do. Maintenace like this is necessary to allow Subeta to keep running current features and to be able to add new things and handle events. Without this sort of work, users would actually have worse difficulties over the long term. Also, I have been around for a while now and I can see the value of the work being done. How lag is much less during events, how the site runs better and smoother in between these major changes. So I am grateful that they are still actively trying to improve the site and are willing to continue tackling this sort of major work even though they are aware that many users will be upset. And finally, Subeta really cares about all the users and has always gone way above and beyond in their generosity to make up for any downtime or inconveniences to users. I have not seen that elsewhere. So that is what I am grateful for, even during this relatively short period of difficulty. Yes, I would love it if Subeta could always be available and working 24/7. And I miss it when it is not since this is where I spend most of my online time. But I am truly grateful that staff is working hard to keep Subeta here and working well into the future.
Is there a reason why users are so grateful for more that 24 hours of downtime?

Im looking forward to the finished product. The 18 hours of constant downtime was the longest Ive ever seen subeta down for. Its bumpy now as as the finishing touches happen.
I found out I cant post anything if theres an apostrophe in your text. If you cant post take out your apostrophes.
Thank you for your hard work through the night and day.

last time there was a scheduled downtime to "fix" things, more things became broke & the lag/errors were atrocious.
I stand by what I said the other day.
New scripts for analytics (instant blocked!)
herokucdnn white pages (I block Iframes (& now the actual herokucdnn url/s) so not a clue was was actually shown on that page),
newrelic (again anything to do with that has been instantly blocked)
Being randomly Logged out, providing proper name/passwrd takes me to a amazonaws(dot)com "under maintenance page" (I block Iframes so not a clue was was actually shown on that page).
In over 11 years on this site, Ive never been randomly logged out before, till today.
Having to do quests the long way/workaround since shop search is still a white page.
All the stuff Ive blocked actually doesnt affect my usage on this site.

Hopefully everything can be sorted out soon. ;~;
I know it is frustrating, but at least this way it can be done with before all of the holidays that we have coming up over the next several months. Thanks for the hard work, and I hope the new server host makes things easier for everyone in the future.

(Also, they have still been posting occasional updates on twitter, in case anyone wants to see more info about whats been going on, be sure to keep checking there too.)

so should we wait to do quests today since it was said there would be quest bonuses? or should we do them since they might get reset when bonuses come?

that way gets me to the shop search.
I dont have hover as I block it, but i just opened account search in a new tab & went from there.
I dont mind C&Ping the items. Its basically the old way I used to do quests anyway.

Personally I think a better work around for the shop search issue is by using the hover item menu and clicking account search (I use open in new tab too). From there you can click shop search, since that link still works. It saves having to copy and paste the item names every single time.
I hope all the kinks get worked out soon and I wonder what the special treat for the extended downtime will be. (As announced on twitter.)

For those trying to do quests...
clicking "shop search" within the quest still brings up a blank broken page, but if you do it manually:
Commerce > Shop Search > Type or Paste item name
That is working for now. Slowly, but it is working. Just a heads up for anyone wanting a work-around for quests this morning!

thank you for the almost no downtime we have these days. I remember when it went down every weekend, all weekend.
p.s. still a blank page when I try for shop search.

An error occurred in the application and your page could not be served. If you are the application owner, check your logs for details. You can do this from the Heroku CLI with the command

Thanks so much for the hard work! And for keeping our count at the bathhouse ^_^
Just a little thing.. when I try to go to the map I keep getting a 404 because it keeps sending me to: https://subeta.net/explore/news.php instead of https://subeta.net/explore/index.php

Thank you for putting so much hard work into this!
Also re:why the staff would probably choose today - they probably had the day off from their potential day jobs, too, so now was a good time to do it. Better now than in the middle of Black Friday/big commercial holidays.

Thanks for the update. Minor quibble...I do wish this work had been scheduled for a random Monday instead of a day most of us had off and could actually play Subeta. I get that nobody knew the downtime would last this long, though.
Looking forward to a faster, more stable site. :)
