I think MysticCookie started that trend to distinguish her pets, and it looked so maniacal, it just caught on.

Hee. I just saw the movie 'Pom Poko' which was about a bunch of transforming raccoons who were trying to scare humans off their land by becoming monsters and such. He reminds me of that movie.
