These challengers can be found in the Event tab at the Battle Coliseum. You do have to unlock Cursed Effigy first, though.

I understand your frustration. I've been there. My advice: Just keep on training and do Battle Quests daily. Your pet will be able to defeat medium challengers in no time.
My battle pet had very low stats after I came back from my hiatus and now it is able to deafeat each of these challengers apart from Cranky Carrot and Lord Wybert.

@StarShadow The oldies have new loot (Bandit, Carrot, Effigy). The four ren faire pals do not!
Man. Gotta love how the difficulty just, leaps from a 25 HP monster with low stats that's easy for anyone to defeat, to a 555 hp monster with stats all over 400 :/
