Proposed Pherret Revamp!

The nose should stay brown and i miss the tuft of fur on top of their head but otherwise it's very very cute.
I like the pose and general lines, but I feel like the art style is too "painterly". Like the lines are too thin and the shading is too soft. Could be sharpened up a little to match better with other site art.
The old one is great, but I adore the new one. Look at how cute it is! That little happy face!!!! I really love the face so much, the shading is also chefs kiss. I really enjoy the added subtle markings on the nose and back.
I think the revamp is absolutely adorable!!
A few nitpicks: I think it could use a bit heavier booty area, a little more fuzz on the head, and it does have a quite feminine look to it, which I don't actually mind but it might bother people who want them to look more neutral.

Very cute! I like the slinky ferret energy in the new one, as well as the touches of ginger on the toes, muzzle, and back. Also Takarama's touch-ups look really good! I like the extra blending of the dark fur on the forelegs so it looks more organic, plus the extra fluff-- now that I've seen it, the official revamp looks like something's missing, lol.
I like the brightness of the revamp's eyes, the cute pink nose, and smile, but I'm not a longtime pherret fan, so I can see how people who have pherrets already might not want the daramatic change in expression.

Having read through more comments I have a few more thoughts:
Otherwise, as before, I do still like the new markings overall & I love the new pose.
I'm very excited to see the final revamp & the various revamped colours to come!
- A dark nose, rather than pink, would definitely help sell me on a fresh look.
- I actually think the darker markings on the forelegs & hind feet could benefit from being darker.
- By extension, so too could the mask.
- Extending both the mask & foreleg markings should help balance the effect; in the case of the mask, making it larger as others have suggested & demonstrated really makes a world of difference & resolves the issue of the "eyelash" effect. In the case of the forelegs, extending the markings to taper down the back a bit (and omitting the gold stripe) would help make things look more cohesive.
- I like the lighter toes a lot, frankly! However, it may be more effective to have them match the cream markings or the brown of the back.
- I like the new mark on the nose, but I think it may be a happy compromise to limit the palette & swap it for the brown of the back & ears.
- I agree that the softer pupils of the old design give the new look much more personality than the proposed, dull pupils. (I'm sorry. They're boring in comparison.)
- The more neutral expression is significantly more charming than the smile. We absolutely do have plenty of pets with almost the exact same expression. Why not let the pherret have its own personality?
- A slightly rounder head & more bottom-heavy, exaggerated back curve would be nice, as would a wee tuft of fur on the back, but I think the thicker neck makes the best impact.
- I still think the forepaws & nose would benefit from being bigger & more striking.

I do think it has a particularly feminine look - in part due to the way the mask has been altered. I like the pose and expression a lot, and I'm very fond of the new markings on the forelegs and hind feet.

Please consider taking a look at some photos of various members of the family, indeed including weasels and ferrets, and note that their (very cute) noses (at the end of their muzzles) are rather proportionately larger than their eyes (which have been consistently drawn quite large on the pherret).

I like it a lot! The only suggestion I have is that the shape of the markings over the eyes looks kinda like eyelashes, making it read very femme to me.
@Jasper I never ever said exclude anyone, and in fact I gave my opinion even though I'm not a pherret owner, haven't spent much time thinking about them before this post, and have no plans to get one however they end up. I just said maybe put a little more weight on the opinions of people who own and love them, because those are the people to whom it matters. I was thinking more like if a lot of people in the comments were self-identifying as owners and saying they didn't like the changes, maybe they would reconsider the aspects they were upset about, at least that's what I'd want to do if I were the artist. I wasn't thinking about anything very formal, but if they wanted to do a poll it would be pretty easy to ask if people owned the pet, and if they were happy with the changes, and to mathematically weight the answers for satisfaction that way.
I really love the new design! I looooove the visual distinction of the darker arms and I like the proportions better. I like being able to see both paws, the tangent created by the old ones made the design feel a little flat. This one has real weight to it. its body also reflects more real-world animal anatomy, especially in the back legs.
I also like the silhouette created by the new design; the head direction does a good job directing the viewer back towards the rest of the body, it feels like a more self-contained shape and flows nicely.

@Flame Without intending to sound rude, what are you talking about? How can they only ask pherret owners? Do you expect them to PM every user who owns one? This is how subeta has always gotten feedback. They make a news post about it asking for community feedback. Sometimes they do polls as well. The one time they didn't, they got a lot of deserved criticism that they learned from. I'm not sure how you can get more inclusive than pinging everybody all at once, especially when you consider that maybe the revamp will create new pherret owners. It seems weird to even suggest excluding everyone but the owners specifically. This isn't a clubhouse. Everyone, including those who don't care for the pet / animal in general, should be allowed to have an opinion on it.
My first impression of the revamp is it doesn't look like a Subeta character/pet, it looks more like something out of an old Disney movie.
I don't like it at all. I love the pensive expression on the current design, and the proposed revamp seems too cutesy.
I think I'll miss the sort of wary, tentative expression, but everything else is a strict upgrade IMO!
Not a fan of the coloured toes, and I feel the head on the revamp isn't quite right - doesn't have quite the proportions of the old one, and I would like to see that maintained. Also, don't care for the eyelashes.
We still haven't had last month's themed quest sop items yet, did you forget with all the confusion brought on by the previosu news post getting deleted and the potion lottery thing, or have you decided you're no longer doing them this year?
While weird to say, I don't like the personality the revamp has compared to the original, the original looks like a sweet shy pet and the new one is cocky and going to mock me. Also not a fan of the colored toes.

A much-needed update, for sure! I'm not a Pherret owner, and truthfully this revamp wouldn't necessarily encourage me to get one, but I do have some minor input. Take this with a grain of salt, since I don't have a dog Pherret in this race. :P

- I like the variations in the coat color, but think they should stand out more. At first glance (on a darkened monitor and phone screen), I thought it was meant to be shading or something. I only realized that the darker arms are intentional after I got onto my laptop and turned the brightness up during the daytime.
- I also like the smaller golden fur elements in particular, and think they could be altered in creative ways for non-standard-pose colors (e.g. turning them into an extra eye or mouth for riftborn, or a distinct marking for spectrum/blacklight).
- I see where users are coming with regards to the "eyelashes" on the mask making it look similar to the shoehorned-femininity you see in cartoon animals. I think it's because the wings/eyelashes are too small--in the original, the wings are larger and flow with the design of its face more, so it could be interpreted as fur. I wouldn't think of the original Pherret as being a distinctly feminine or masculine pet (compared to like the Archan or Feli--I also recognize this is a very silly line of thinking lol). Making the "eyelashes" larger might counteract some of the very feminine aspects, since it would look less like eyelashes and more like a fur pattern.
- I love the new expression and pose! It looks so much more dynamic and alive.

I like it! The updated pose & markings are very cute. The only thing I would change is keeping the neutral expression and get rid of the smile. It's nice to have some pets that aren't cheerful all the time, provides a neutral base for characters without having to make your pet Glacier or Nightmare to get the more >:( expressions LOL
I'd also get rid of the little smudge of golden brown on the nose. It's so small that it's barely noticeable and how it's sitting currently makes the muzzle look wonky/misshaped.

I think the pose of the old one is fine but I do like the newer coloring, the darker forearms and legs adds to it. The new form seems..'meh' as the overall expression with the goofy grin has been over-used on every pet site so..keep the old but add the new color aspects..that would be cool.
I know in my last comment I mentioned looking up pictures of ferrets just to compare the eyeballs because something bothers me a little about the startled fish-eyed stare this one has and I wondered how maybe they "should" look. But I think it's important to remember that this isn't a ferret. It's a Pherret. It's an imaginary creature on a petsite, it doesn't have to perfectly conform to reality. I suspect people wouldn't get so hung up on the markings if its default colors were shades of green or pink.
Speaking of the colors, I like them, including the darker arms. But I wonder if maybe the combination of shades is just slightly off. Some adjustment of the browns used together, maybe more dark/light contrast between them, maybe if they were closer together in the brown range instead of one being warm and kind of yellowy and the other being a cooler umber, might make people happier. Also maybe the body color could show up on the bottom of the arms to integrate it more, so the arms don't just look stuck on there from some other creature.
Just thinking about the stripe on the back... I like it, but many have mentioned it looking out of place. Maybe that stripe could be extended up over the shoulders and onto the chest a little or maybe onto the tail to make it look like it really belongs there and isn't just a shine effect?
Again, I'm pretty happy with it as it is so I'm not really complaining, just trying to figure out what might please more people.

I love the new one except that his front paws maybe should be a bit larger? Because of darker color they look smaller than they are
I wanted to voice that I, personally, didn't care much for the Pherret's original design, which makes me that much more excited for a revamp. I think the slight change in markings/coloration is really refreshing, and it gives the eye more to take in and helps make the design seem less flat and uninteresting. I also adore the happier face vs the original one, mostly because the original seems 'meh'/emotionless. The new, dynamic pose is also refreshing and helps give loads more life to the Pherret.
I'm hoping that not too many changes will be made to the revamp, as I'm personally looking forward to making a Pherret for myself if it keeps the cute charm and energy!

FWIW: Overall, not thrilled. Like most other people, there are things I like better about the new and things I like better about the old. As someone who loves and owns RL ferrets, I like the general idea of the new pose, but not super happy with the execution. (The toes especially. I dk why they bother me, but they just seem odd. The toes are never colored like that in RL. Granted, this is art, not reality -- but they just seem sorta "stuck on" like an afterthought.) I do like that there is an attempt to capture the shading of a typical sable, but the coloring is off. The browns don't really mesh.
That said, do what you will with the basic, but please leave the other versions alone. I really love my nightmare, reborn, glade, etc... as they are.

I like this revamp: its "hand" looks more proportionate and the tail more fluffy. I don't know how does this animal look in real life, (not that it matters much) but the "hands" being a different/darker color than the back legs/most of the back looks weird in a way. I'm not sure of the pink toes either? it's like too much color that doesn't need to be there.

I don't particularly like the pink feet and smiley face for the new proposal although the stomach texture does look nice and furry. The new design does not make me want to own one.
Popping back in to say the issue I now realize I have with the new one. It looks passable art wise especially if some of the "fixes" people have come up with are done, specifically Syfiri's but others look good too. I think as is it needs some adjustments though to make it look proportional/more ferret-like, and yeah, less like a Zootopia version of a pherret- whoever said that is spot-on.
The new one just doesn't have the same moody/brooding personalty as the original that I love. If it matters that much to me though I can always use an overlay (or commission one based on the old version, if that's allowed- actually is using code for an overlay allowed now that there's an official paid version? Never was really sure about that), and to be honest... the reason I'm turning around and saying I really like the new one as well in a way, is because it suits a character of mine I've been stuck on species-wise. If we get a mischievious-ferret instead of brooding-ferret... well I already bought the elixir and used it because it isn't that much SP and I'm confident that anything similar to the revamp will work for her, or can be edited.
