The body and the wings look great... except that the chest fur seems to suddenly pop out of no where instead of looking like a natural fluff of fur. However I do not like the facial expression at all, it no longer suits my pet's character, and it is the new head that looks mishapen to me. The old one looked fine, it was my favorite pet.
Actually, the old Dragarth's head didn't look misshapen at all. It's stylized. There's a difference. Keeping in mind that it was slightly tilted toward the viewer in that nifty "come and get some" expression, all the proportions and symmetry of the face were correct. It was just drawn in a slightly angular style, which was just fine and suited its character well.
The new one, on the other hand, is neither correct nor stylized. The eyes and horns especially - its left eye is too high and too sharply angled to match the right one, and its left horn is just way off. Try to imagine its head without the tuft of fur. Where do you think the horn is growing out of? Air. The base would barely be touching the head, if at all.
I would apologize in case this sounds harsh as it's intended to be a simple crit, but for one I'm sure nobody would believe me, and for two I doubt anyone will read this anyway since this post is so old now. shrug

Honestly, I like the change. But, then again, I was always easily won over by pets with spiffy shading. A lot of people are complaining about the smile. I actually like it; it's like the line of the mouth adds something to the sructure and depth of the jaw (just my opinion). <img src=http://75.126.139.59/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif border=0>
Debi, if they're made-up creatures, isn't there leniency in the anatomy? o: Having that angular-ness was what made this creature ORIGINAL. And not just like any other poofy critter with wings and horns

There isn't going to be a poll; this one has already been approved and added. Once again, the old facial expression couldn't be made to look right on the revamp, so it was changed. If anything the head of the old version is misshapen, being all angular.

The older Dragarth was badass, and had shiny fur. This one has a nose of the wrong shape. I was going to get a Dragarth, but this might make me change my mind...
Sorry but i like the older dragarth better. Mostly because of his expression and the face itself.

the head seems a bit too small and squared for the body or something... the wings seem all wrong: they don't seem to be in the right place and seem like they wouldn't be realistic.

I believe that whether people like the revamp or not everyone can agree that the artist did a wonderful job regardless. The shading is particularly phenomenal, however there's something that throws me about this new version that I can't quite place. It could simply be personal taste.

Well I haven't got one, but i was waiting and i have had one, I changed him, I was going to change him back when i got the right potion.....
But as i said, it is beautifully done and a big congrats go to the artist. Now i know what the inspiration was for the pet, it makes sense.....

I love the furry bits and the shading. A lot of people have said dragarth needed an update and I think this one is perfect. I can't see whats wrong with the head and I always thought the expression on the old dragarth looked like it was in pain or worried. If I could get more pets I'd get a dragarth. I still hope spectrum isn't changed though. Thats always been my favourite dragarth and it fits Hustle perfectly.

I like the revamp for the most part. I love the body, especially the legs, but its face looks wrong to me (especialy the eyes- they're at an odd angle).
I'm just wondering what happened to the polls. Since so many people are upset by the change, I don't know why there was no poll before the revamp. The same thing happened with the Antlephore, and several other pets have been revamped suddenly. Why not let the users decide what their pets look like?

More detail on the head... I guess what I really don't like about it is the smile and the flooff about it's eyes. Great job on the wings. I like the furry look too.
I'm not actually a dragarth owner but I've toyed with the idea of getting one for a while now, and because of that I'll just repeat what everyone's been saying. The head is wrong.. Well, not the head but definetely the expression, also the shape of the eyes. However on the plus side those wings are just lovely and the body looks fine.
-sigh- Alright. I still like the old one better; I planned to get one when a certain name became available. I would probably like it if the head was changed... and if it had the grin. The rest is pretty good though.

Rushes other and tackles the dragarth So awsome! I love the wing fix, the fix on the hair, the shading, the toes and I agree- I don't want all my pets to look mischevious or..whatever. I preffer a slightly more neutral look, yet with a personallity hidden in the pet somewhere.

Aw, cute! These guys needed a revamp. I don't really like their expression though, the huge smile is kind of creepy. Other than that I love them.
The Dragarth was always meant to be furrier, like Falkor the Luck Dragon on The Neverending Story. We already have scaly dragons. As was said it wasn't polled because Keith and kelpie both approved it as is and it didn't need to be polled (all of the other artists did critique it before it was added); that's the only reason that it wasn't, not every pet revamp is polled. And, going by poll trends, this version would have won by a significant margin anyway had it been polled. The same number of people have problems with every pet revamp, no matter how much of an improvement it is; that is indicative of nothing. A good percentage of those complaining don't even have a Dragarth, and others, judging by some incorrect observations in some of the comments, don't actually remember exactly what the old version looked like.

If you just cut down on the fur, bring back the strip on the wing like the Bloodred Dragarth/old design and its a winner!

I loved the sort of "mean look" that the old Dragarth's had, but I think it's just the head that looks bad to me. Plus, Dragarths are supposed to be dragonic, right..? These new ones look a little TOO fluffy to be those scaly, fire-breathing reptiles.

The body is great, don't get me wrong, but the face is is awful... Just redo the face and I wouldn't mind it, maybe give back the old expression at least. Also you could do away with most of the random fur tufts. Other than the fur and face, I think it wasn't too bad of a change. It could've been a LOT better though, like some of the other changes....

they kept the bloodred dragarth the same and it looks the same as the old ones exept for the coloration.
I, too, have a Spectrum Dragarth, although he and my lookup is invisible for the moment. Therefore I am not effected by the change, and I hope they keep the art for the Spectrum Dragarth the same. The spectrum one is so beautiful and still has some of that old Dragarth spunk to it.
I like it but I think the chai and ruffie needed it more. As long as they dont mess with the chibi ruffies or the galactic chais. snuggles Starwatcher and Spunky

I like it... the only thing to irritate me about it is the face, which looks a tad too friendly. Otherwise the body and everything is quite nice C:.
I loved the old Dragarth and almost cried when I saw the new version... Luckily, spectrum doesn't seem to have changed.. yet... And I hope it doesn't. huggles Scofield and distracts the artists I personally don't think the dragarths needed an update... but the galactic version was a dead giveaway it was coming...

If that, and the weird fur tufts were fixed, I would like it better. But if it stays like this, I'm dumping my plans to change Aw into a Dragarth.

Yes... This is great art and all, and the artist should be proud of it :p But it's not the /Dragarth/, which is what I liked.
Dialga, I completely agree with you. This one has a nice style, better art than before, but... I don't think this new version. It's not so much of the "Dragarth" anymore. They shouldn't have changed it, I say... they should have at least had a revamp where we, citizens of subeta, could vote.

agrees with angelembryo The artwork is perfect, the colouring, the shading...but nearly each revamped pet (since I've registered) lost a bit of their personality by changing their facial expression :/ The Demi, the Feli, Cadogre and now the Dragarth. They were unique, and then they got either a boring, vapid f. expression...big eyes, a cute smile, fluffy fur... that seems to be a new fashion (of the Cadogre: I loved that evil eyes, and now it looks...dead, bored and common)

I like the revamp. It didn't change by a lot. The body of the old one was kind of clunky and didn't have very good shading, so this is a great update. The only thing I don't like is that the snout for some reason looks curved when it's not. It's probably because of the angle of the eyes and that the nostrils are relatively small.

Wow, some of the users get pretty rude if some of us don't like it. Just because we dont fawn over it like some of you do, doesn't mean we're allowed to have an opinion. Good lord :/ Holyhour, the wikibeta even SAID that the smirk is what defined the Magnus. So yes, people are going to be upset that it's gone. Isn't it something to be concerned about if a mass of people all agree on it. Something pointless would be like 'I think the left toe is slightly too angled' or something. People are upset because the whole ATTITUDE of the pet is changed now. Dragarths were cunning, mischievious, and now cute and devious? I mean come on, I've seen Qhimera's other works, and it all looks pretty much devious (dillema and magnus right?) so why couldn't the dragarth? I shouldn't even bother consider my comment is just 'negative whining' and not criticism that will be used since it's final anyway. shrugs I still think there could have been room for more tact.

The smirk didn't look right on the face, so it was changed. Pet revamps are not polled if Keith determines that they need not be, which was the case in this instance, as it is a vast improvement over the former one, and, had it been polled, this is the version that would have won and been added, so there really would have been no point to a poll.

I'm not all that fond of it, but I'm being bias- the old version was one of my favorite pets on the site. :'D I just never had room for one.

I don't like it, it looks so...different...from the other Subeta pets.
I like the body, even though it could use something unique, like markings or something, but the face is weird and it's the first thing I noticed and disliked about the revamp. It just looks kind of awkward with the snout and eyes, IMO.
I'm not complaining about the artists. Also, I know that sometimes the 'new and shiney' one gets the votes. It stinks. However, I have noticed that, with polls, the final release doesn't always look exactly like the original suggestion in the poll.

When I first saw it, it made me want to cry. Then I put one index finger over the top of the eyes, and one over the corner of the mouth.. xD and realized, it's just the face I don't like.

Very nice! I just think the lines should be SLIGHTLY thicker.. to match the other pets.. but I love it. The horn looks like it's kinda just floating though - And shouldn't the Arid have pink eyes? ): I always love the pink in Arid, but... I love this makeover.
The eyes on the Lilac Dragarth are AMAZING. o__o And Twilight and Dusk look beautiful. The rest are kinda "eh" but they're still an improvement. XD I eagerly await the Chibi, Reborn, and Angelic revamps. ^^
I like this a little better than the old one, although I agree with the others that the far horn looks like it's detatched. And the smile is a little...sickly. But other than that, it's great! I especially love the wings and the paws. Kudos to the artists!

The Dragarth definitely needed an update, and I really dig on this one. I do, however, agree that the furthest horn is a wee bit off as if not attached to the same place on the head.

Overall I think it is a good change. Really the main thing I dont like about it is It seems youger. Where the other didn't seem to have show much of an age to me. This seem like its a kid or maybe teenager type. Mine is galatic now anyway so I guess this doesn't matter to it anymore.
The left(our right) horn looks out of place to me. Even if it's flush with the face, the right horn rests a little below the temple, like an ear might rest for a cat or dog. The left horn doesn't look like it's attached in the same manner to me. The posture and pose is very nice, and I like the wings larger. Only other thing I really dont care for is the facial expression. it looks nervous instead of happy or content. It might just be the postitioning of the smile or the backwards glance, I dont know. Nice work otherwise. =3

Gorgeous new redraw! I dare say this one has exquisite new motion and life-like properties. However, I will agree with Aimee in that the right horn looks a little off, following the lines back to the head make me feel like it comes off the side of the head instead of the back. Right wing also seems a little off, but that could just be me hallucinating. Lol.

I kinda missed alot of Kabuto's comments, and tried to avoid the fight that had taken place, but as I had seen you had good crits. Just, a few unnamed other people got all angry. I guess we can't help people that may be in a bad mood, but you handled fairly well. And, on the same note, it's when people make huge angry comments that everyone gets pumped and everyone starts arguing. I guess it can't be helped, because, as I have said, no one is perfect. But I like how everything calmed down quite well :3

Yes, we can be done with it. The old ones looked like ass and the new ones, despite any flaws people might want to claim they have, are a vast improvement.

Having gotten that out of my blood, guys, if your first response to seeing the newspost is to explode in a flurry of...whatever, just step away from the computer and get ice cream. I have ice cream. It's very nice.
It's also left me in a very rational state about this whole thing. X)
One thing I don't think you guys are particularly aware of is the fact that Chim's an artist <i>as her day job</i>. I know, Subeta is unpaid work, but she does this stuff "professionally" as well as "for fun". And one big thing professional artists have to be able to do is go "well, I know this isn't entirely perfect, but it never will be, time to let it go" about their projects, because they're working on a clock (time = money, dontchaknow). However, the past trend with revamp polls has been for a small subset of users to scream about every last little exacting detail of the proposed revamp (or that the staff have the GALL to want to revamp things and try to, I don't know, improve the quality of stuff around the site because we're not That Other Pet Site and flat cel-shaded art doesn't cut it), to the point the artists (and non-art staff) want to kill all of us so we'll just shut up. Looking at it this way, I completely understand why this one did NOT go to poll.
And, yes, there's probably still problems with it (nothing is EVER perfect) because or in spite of that; no, it doesn't look like the old Dragarth because it's up to the newer art standard that everything's being updated to; BUT...it's here. At this point, no amount of wailing, wibbling, or invective will make it go back onto the drawing board (unless Chimaera decides it's worthwhile to give it another go), so get in your one comment to let off the steam and then let it go.

The dragarths being fuzzy has always intrigued me--mainly because they seem the closest to "true" western dragons out of all the pets, but they're...well, fuzzy. XD

I love the redraw of the Dragarth, thanks for doing it for us. I never would have considered getting one in the past, but now I'm wondering if I might get one. Sure, there may be minor things that look a bit off or weird, but I thought the old one looked more off and weird, lol.
...I didn't think of it before, but the head fluff seems a bit A Flock of Seagulls, doesn't it? X3 and to those that commented that this Dragarth seems to furry to be a dragon - remember the Luck Dragon from Never-Ending Story? I seem to remember it having fur (and scales, but I'm trying to prove a point here XD).

The art of this site is a major reason I keep coming back. That's why, personally, I enjoy seeing things updated. It keeps everything crisp and fresh, unlike other places that use the same art for 390420902 billion years.

Well it's obvious you did take crits, but your prior comments had been perceived as snappy and maybe even a bit egotistical? Personally I don't know what you're really like, so that's the impression I got :/ I'm sorry. Just being truthful.
This is were I get worried we will lose our commenting priveledges... Remember like we did for the potion lottery and other such news posts. I, personally, love reading and posting what I like and dislike about certain pieces of art - but take it too far and we will no longer be able to openly discuss matters like this anymore.

Well, That may be true, Windsong, but eventually there is need for change, and change comes. I mean, if we don't like the new look, then we don't have to keep/get the pet, right? We can even totally avoid it if we like. We don't HAVE to get it, nor do we have to like it. I guess I see some things that could be improved and changed, but I'm sure more than one person has already pointed out what needs change, so I don't really think criting now would do much.
You know, the head doesn't bother me in the slightest. It's simply perspective - I remember people complaining that the revamped Bloodred Telenine looked fat. It was just the positioning.

I have to agree. =/ Most of us chose our pets because we liked the way they looked -originally-, as we fell in love with the personalities that their looks exuded...these pet redraws are not an enjoyable aspect for the site for me, personally. There are other areas that perhaps need more attention.

GUYS. Does it matter if Chim accepts the criticism or not? The Dragarth's been revamped, Whether You All Like It Or Not, and you can criticize all you want, but it won't make Chim take it down and edit it to Your sweet favor. If anything, she may use your critique on her next works, who knows. :3
We try to be rather open to the public here, as staff. Really, sometimes it has its faults, but it's nice being able to actually...well, speak with users, for better or worse. XD

Awh, I think it looks fine. It's not as if they gave it an elephant's nose, or flipped it upside-down and made it stand on its head. Plus, I prefer wings that are more anatomically correct (as in attached to the majority of the back instead of just the shoulders)

Oh, and Chimaera, no. A good artist knows to respond graciously to critique and quietly discard the crits that don't help. Some people are going to say useless things - that is the nature of the internet. Getting up in arms about it is an awfully childish thing to do. And let's face it: it's human nature to enjoy complaining, especially on sites like this. They don't really mean anything by it, and it's nothing against you personally unless you decide to make it personal (which, again, you don't have to do). It's not that they don't appreciate the admins' and artists' hard work; it's just that they don't think. People are like that.

The thing that confuses me is that why does the feli get the option of a poll yet the dragarth does not? Why can the feli have crits but this one cant? :/ I know the feli is more popular, but I think it would be good to kind of give all pets the same respect when revamping. I thought it was please the user/customer...
I mean, not as an artist, but as a staff/admin in general. Staff and Admins from other sites you hardly get to see, much less comment on their work. I think this site does a good job with communicating with other users, though this might be getting a bit out of hand.

The body and wing anatomy is lovely, and the shading on this little creature is a treat! Love the way the tail curls round the feet.
However, that said - the face bothers me... there is something slightly out of place about the horn on the right side of his head... and as has been said he looks in need of a haircut, as the tuft looks a little awkward. And sad-to-say the grin bothers me also... I think a different expression would be better...

It's more a combined decision. Once the artist director(s) and Keith are all happy with it (and usually the vast majority of the staff artist team after heavy critting); then it's deemed ready. :3 Not when just one person is happy.

I'm not attacking Tate O_O I'm sharing my opinion. I said what I liked and what I thought need to be improved, I was sharing my crits from one artist to another ^^; Lord knows the dragarth needed a new look, and this one was good, it just has a lot of improvement that could be made

I actually like the revamp, and I liked the old one. Not every artist liked critique, but everyone should be happy that Chim even considers your existance. Some artists think their work is perfect and doesn't care what anyone else says. I like how the artists of this site talk with everyone. Even how the staff communicate is a wonder. Any other pet sites/ sites in general have staff that hide behind walls just because they don't feel like dealing with people. But, I can say I like the dragarth and think it's nicely done, and I don't think it's too cutesy. I mean, if you never realized it, most of the other pets look cutesy, too. But, if you can't handle cute things, then get a graveyard pet or something.

Listen. One thing you all need to come to terms with is the fact that things -are- going to be changed, pets -are- going to be updated, and so on, and you may or may not have a chance to give your input.

Sorry, I wasn't finished still. You also cannot be considered a true artist if you never listen to any critique, or if you live in your own world of thinking everything is perfect. Sure, you may be happy, but you'll improve at a much slower rate, and you'll more likely rather than not fail/get fired from proffesional jobs. Critique is vital to all people who would like to consider themselves an artist, regaurdless of how good they are. This isn't an attack against you understand, your a wonderfull artist in my opinion, but you can't just look the other way when people try to give some simple crits on what their seeing...

And just to clear things up for everyone.
I updated the art, and changed a few things (the structure of the wings, etc). But I kept the exact same pose and proportions as the original dragarth. I updated the art, and changed a few things (the structure of the wings, etc). But I kept the exact same pose and proportions as the original dragarth. The anatomy of the face and head are off. The muzzle doesn't seem to be centered in the face, and the far horn is WAY off.

I really wish this would have been a POLL instead of an instant revamp... :/ The face looks off to me, and it looks too... chunky now. The paws look weirdly placed, in the front, and are two different sizes (even with foreshortening, something looks wrong with it). The bangs... bother me... somehow... I think it's the thinner lineart in some areas. I just... I dunno, I like the old one better, too.

Dragons have scales? This has fur. A bit unusual to say the least looks good except for the hair in it's face, haircut wouldn't go astray.
Also, they're not going to redraw the Galactic one. ^^; They just released it.. what? Two days ago? XD;;

The muzzle area of the dragarth seems a bit off, I can't imagine it opening its mouth and functioning right... it also seems too square... the marks/lines/ridges on the horns also seem a bit too thick. The last crit I have is its wing in the backround, it doesn't work anatomicaly for the angle.
Other than those crits, the lineart/body is a giant leap from the old version, and the colouring is looking great, the toes don't line up but thats okay. Its deffinately an improvement art wise, just not anatomy wise. This may be the first redraw I have to vote for the old version on though...

Hemp: Because in a lot of cases with the old versions of the pets, the heads were too large and round. XD Their faces didn't have as much shape to them and anatomy-wise, weren't as good.
The face bothers me a tad on them too, but I -really- like the wings. o-o They were my least favorite part on the old one. XD

I appreciate the hard work but I think I like the old version better. The head on this one looks wrong, and the expression makes me think it's being forced to pose for some reason.

This isn't critisism, but I just wanted to throw it out there..Has anyone else noticed that alot of the redraws give the pets narrower and/or taller heads? This revamp..Feli..Antlephore..Demi (just barely), Kanis, Kumos..A few more that could just be considered change of position or cheekbone adjustment O-o..Anyway.
