Auction Gavel

Attention Traders!

We'd like to remind all of our members to be careful when using the Trades. Here are a few helpful tips to make sure you don't accidentally fall victim to a trick or innocent mistake:

1. Make sure the offer isn't missing a zero. If you are asking for 1,000,000 sP on an item, check to ensure that you aren't being offered 100,000 sP instead.

2. Check to make sure that the sP amount has been typed into the actual sP box and not the Message box.

3. If you are trading your item for other items, double-check the value of the items in the offer. It's not always safe to take the other user's word on the value; just because someone tells you that their Pink Bobber (for example) is rare and valuable doesn't mean it's true!

If you feel that someone has intentionally scammed you, be sure to report the user to an appropriate member of staff.

Thank you, and may you have a happy and profitable trade experience! :)

I'm with <label title="header=User invalid body=[<center><img src="http://www.subetax.org/images/icons/gold.gif><b>ShinobiiShadow</b><br />Member<br /><b>Name</b>: Akuma<br /><b>Posts</b>: 866<br />"]" class="tip"><a href="/users/ShinobiiShadow"><img src="http://www.subetax.org/images/icons/gold.gif" border="0">ShinobiiShadow</a></font></label>. The trades are long over due for a reset.

I wish they would allow commas so people wouldn't make mistakes. ^^;;<br /><br />
Thank-you staff for those very educational words. ^^*

ghost_1960

why is there even a message box in the trades?
0

amanda_eithne

Thanks for this =) And the huge letters are so helpful =D

Mandy

I agree with the trade reset, It gets annoying going through lots finding someone who still comes on
0

Sekhmet

That is an excellent idea, ShinobiiShadow - I'm trying to buy an Angelic Potion, and at least three people have been gone for over a month.

<b>I STRONGLY suggest we have a <u>trade RESET.</u>
Since subeta was confusingly relocated to SubetaX, we have lost a lot of members, and just surfing through the trades I've seen a heck of a lot of users who have been inactive for over a month. Just a suggestion, but in my oppinion it would make the trades nice and fresh once more and they'd be able to function more freely without needing to check the activity of every single user who has trades up. THANKS :3 </b>

OH MY GOSH! I don't know when it happened, but the text for Message and sP amount on an offer I just got are HUUUGE! It's now EASY to spot a missing 0, whether by mistake or intentional! Kudos! Awesome idea! XD
0

sheral

will people be punished for honest mistakes in where they type the amount?
0

Templar

-nods- That happened to me in the auctions as well. I won the lot for... a Bloodred Keith birthday cake.... thing, it had my name on it when the lot closed as the winning bidder, but when I checked back, it said that someone else had offered after me, and after I won.
Glad you're doing something about the trades, though.

Thanks <img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_happy_sweatdrop.gif border=0> just today I saw a board about being scammed for the number of digits in the message box
0

Sekhmet

Thank you for the heads up! ^^

Used the trades after your note here ... glad you finally enlarged the offer amount's font size. ^^ Makes it easier for those of us with pitiful eyesight.

Wow, my last comment looked wrong. <img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_dead.gif border=0> I meant THE comment scam, not TO.
0

BloodlustMagician

Heh, I always end up trading items that are UB one week, the next week they're like 2k. <img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_dead.gif border=0> But, it happens, I guess.
0

Mingbee

Someone tried the comment scam on me yesterday. I didn't know it was a common scam and thought a new person just didn't know how things worked. I'd have reported them if I had known.

Egad, is this happening a lot or is it just a random reminder?
0

User not found:

Now how about changing it so that people can't bid AFTER the auction has closed :K My friend and I were watching an item, it closed, then he was beaten - very uncool.

Ivy_718

Thank you so much. I've gotten to comment scam a couple times. I'm glad steps are being taken to ensure safer trading. <img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif border=0>

Someone got me with the comment scam today, but looks like that person has been froze already.

Thanks for the words of wisdom. I hope the less experienced Subetians pay heed. <img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif border=0>
0

Coriander

Oh nice! They changed it so that the font of the sp section is a much larger size than the message box. Scared me a moment ago, the money practically yelled at me xD This will definitely make it easier to avoid scams <img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif border=0>

I fell for the scam earlier in the week.. Didn't think to report it to be honest, as it was really my own fault.. ~small sighs~ Ah well.. let's hope no one else falls for this mess again .. thanks so much for posting about this! We appreciate the concern.
0

Kirce

Thanks. It's horrible how people scam, but then again, some cuold've made a mistake instead of intentionally scamming. Everyone needs to be careful. xD
0

Dominic

Thank you for posting this! I'd hate to see more people getting ripped off. <img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/smiley_sadface.gif border=0>
0

Spike

The big words scare me ;~;
0

Jasper

Been getting a lot of complaints about this huh?
0

Venom

Ah yes, I love it when they offer junk and the sp amount is typed in the message area rather than the actual sp spot... haven't gotten me yet, watch for those!
0

Cataluna

*nods* It's great that someone took the time to remind the newer users... I know I've had people placing junk bids on some of my stuff... When I called them on it, they just laughed and said it was just a joke, but if I hadn't been paying attention? Gah, people sometimes...
0

ghost_1960

i once accidently posted the price in the message on my first trade
0

Caduceus

isnt this more of a common sense thing?
0

TracyH

I have never been ripped off except when it was my own fault by leaving a 0 in my shop.
0

Rusty

Maybe don't allow numbers in the message <img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_happy.gif border=0>

Hurrah, always glad that Subeta takes the time to inform the community of the scam tricks to better protect them.
0

RetroDoll

It really saddens me that people would stoop so low on this site, especially when 95% of the people I've interacted with have been kind and generous. It's a shame that you HAD to post it but I'm glad you did, that way these scammers have less of a chance to get away with it.

I'm glad to see this posted. I was getting worried about the rising number of scammers lately. Hopefully this will help folks to avoid being tricked =3
0

Marcus

This is good to bring up. I don't really see why people scam others for pixels, but oh well. :/ Thanks for reminding us of this, staff!

Thankyou for posting this! There have been so many people who have fallen for this/were targeted and it helps out newbies or careless users.

Also implimenting a pin would be a good idea so you don't rush through accepting trades.
0

lull

Tiaan I believe that today at least there have been people trying to scam users by putting the amount in the message box
0

Loaded

tiaan yep

its happened to a few people today including me<img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif border=0>

luckly i didn't accept<img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_grin.gif border=0>

So sad that some people do that <img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_sad.gif border=0>
0

Alkuna

Wise words staff. *bows* Many traders are honorable and they are true to their word, but sadly it's not universal and it only takes one bad trader to ruin the whole experience. Also it should be noted that you should always take your time when receiving bids. Never rush, and don't let the bidders pressure you either. Make absolutely sure that you're getting what you're expecting to get.

*clap*....Thank you for posting this !!

HopefulNebula

I find it amusing that the link to /help/index.php is a subetan redirect... :p

(That said, +1 to everything said in the post. I've seen Greasemonkey scripts for other sites that let you type in a number amount with commas and deletes the commas when you click away, which is a useful trick even without Greasemonkey.)

Yes, thanks so much guys. :3

A nice reminder to those who may be new to the site or who have made careless errors in the past *guilty look*
0

Spike

The last one is helpful

XD
I hate seeing things so expensive in trades for 1k on the search.
0

NYX

Well. Guess the staff decided that too many people were getting scammed by people typing in the message box instead of the actual sP box.

Its always nice to have reminders of stuff like this, for those that are new to the site
0

Thats very good of you to remind the new users of this. I've been seeing some nasty characters roaming in trades. Shamefull
0

Hmm. This seems random. -watches back- Anything happen to bring it about? <img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/smiley_xface.gif border=0>
