Actually ghostcat1 bear season is the three days, Monday thru Wednesday before Thanksgiving. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />
I know, I got it right <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" /> I'm asking why someone would have put buck DAY as opposed to buck SEASON!
Ariel, it was Buck Season hun <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif" border="0" />

Agh! Black bear season started too.....
How could the answer have been "buck day"? It said, "the first day of....". The first day of buck day?
I'm sorry, but your answer of deer season for the trivia was incorrect. - whoops. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" /><br />
I even thought, "what if she wants something specific, like 'buck'" but then I found stuff that mentioned does as well, so I kinda went /shrug. -- I'm kinda dumb, because I have no clue on the new question. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />

I just have to voice my opinion and say I am a little disappointed in the incorrectness of the answer of Buck Season. The season is two weeks and is open to both buck and doe. It has been this way for several years now. Previously yes it was just Buck season. But its been an easy 5 years since they changed it. I know, I've spent the last two days chasing deer, buck and doe alike! LOL Okay I just wanted to voice my opinion.
Living in PA for over 30 years, it is "Buck Day". Problem has been in issues like this, not researching multiple answers.
And BoysenBERRY, why do any of those things matter? I didn't celebrate thanksgiving, I don't hunt, I've never seen a deer, and I don't live in Pennsylvania, nor can I spell it without a spellchecker (we are on computers, you know <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif" border="0" />). I still got it right, why would any of those things inhibit me from getting the answer?
She can't give prizes to anyone else, people. It's a script, and once she starts the trivia, that's it. She can't change the answer, change who gets what, see who put what, etc. What's done is done. Debilee already said that despite enough of them being won, she's reusing the prize, what more do you want?
User not found:
Be specific? "Deer season" is more specific than "hunting season".<br />
<br />
I checked several PA news sites and verified the answer on a couple of school websites that turned up in my search before answering. <i>All</i> of the sites I looked at said that that school was out for the first day of "deer season". Not one said "buck season". When local Pennsylvania news and school websites consistently give the same answer to a question about Pennsylvania schools, why should anyone assume that they are all wrong?<br />
<br />
In cases like this, DebiLee just needs to admit that the trivia question has more than one correct answer and award prizes to people who gave the other correct answer.

Lame, lame, lame.
Would you guys stop whining. it made alot of Sense.<br />
<br />
Point 1. It said "Be Specific. A Deer. More specific, a Buck.<br />
<br />
Point 2. It was worded like this.... "the first day of..." ...now i found a school site in pennsylvania that said "No school Buck Day" But does.. "the first day of Buck day" make alot of sense? No that is gramatically incorrent. Therefore "the first day of... Buck Season" makes alot more sense. Its specific, a "season" is an extended period of time, whileas a "day" just just simply, a day.<br />
<br />
Buck season.<br />
<br />
thanks =]
Oh man, I really want this current prize, but I can't find the answer!<br />
<br />
I got this one wrong, too <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_sad.gif" border="0" /> I really wanted the baby reindeer. Oh well, guess I'll just have to buy one!
I'd like to take this time to say that yesterday was the first day of shotgun season for deer... It's been bow season before now... So technically, shotgun season started yesterday... And bucks are attainable in either season, but now's when they're out and about more due to the rut... <br />
<br />
I really, REALLY wanted that calf... <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" /> hopes the next question it's offered on is one she can get

I have 2 cents. I will now share them with you. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif" border="0" /><br />

First of all, Debilee stated in an earlier comment that because of all the valid questions brought up about the answer to this particular trivia question that she WILL be offering this trivia prize again very soon, so those of us (me included) who feel they should have gotten the right answer but did not can try again to get the prize.<br />
<br />
Second of all, this specific trivia answer aside, I think it's humorous how many people have been so convinced that they got "the correct" answer simply because it's the most widely found phrase on the internet. ON THE INTERNET. Did you know... that a large amount of information available on the internet is not 100% accurate? It's true! Really. In fact, I would encourage not only users, but whoever submits the trivias as well, to look at information more reliable than just what's on the internet in the future when determining the correct answers to trivia questions.<br />
<br />
I will now climb down off my soapbox, and thank you very much to anyone who read my speech. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_happy.gif" border="0" />

<br />
Well, Deer season would be correct now wouldn't it, since you can hunt BOTH buck and doe starting yesterday. It's not technically the first day of buck season anymore because you can shoot buck during archery season as well. You don't get buck permits either, you get a hunting license, and you send for doe tags. And of course Bear season came in last week for 3 days and then again this first week of deer season in certain area's of PA. <br />
<br />
I am pretty fluent when it comes to hunting, my fiance has been hunting all his life so i know it well. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif" border="0" />

Alright! The last one didn't give me my tenth but this one will. Blue Building here I come!! x3
what!? I googled for hours and only found deer season! Even a couple of school websites say deer season!
I looked it up on google, and a load of sites including the states website - deer hunting or deer season was the most common! Never saw anything about a buck!<br />
<br />
Oh dear.
specific to me, ment the sex of the deer.. thats why I chose it
Holy crap batman!!<br />
Your answer buck season for the trivia was correct! Youve been given an A Reindeer Calf and 1126sP<br />

I though for sure I blew it and it would be deer!!
I'm sorry, but your answer of buck day for the trivia was incorrect.<br />

The only answer I was able to find was "deer season". That wasn't a very good trivia. Specifically, there was too much vagueness in the answer, because all of them are specific, just not what was wanted. >>
man i put deer hunting...i almost put buck hunting not buck season <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif" border="0" /> lol oh well
I found a page saying that the actual name of the day was "buck day" =(
I'm sorry, but your answer of cyber monday for the trivia was incorrect.<br />

Shoot, I said deer season! Deer, buck, it all tastes the same to me(tasty)! Oh well, better luck next time!
Deer season and Buck season are NOT the same thing. Deer refers to all deer. Buck is a certain type of deer. Yes it is a technicality, but that is the point. She already mentioned, as did several others, that the prize will be re-used so chill please.
i dont think it's fair that people are getting it wrong if the said deer season. I really dont. It's not fair. It's the same thing.
I´m sorry,but the answer deer season was incorrect.... :-( <br />
I only saw deer season in my searches
User not found:
Damn, I said deer season XD
I believe buck season is wrong because buck refers to the male of the species and you can shoot male or female deer. Hubby is a hunter. . .Glad to see the prize will be re-used!!
lolz. I'm glad I'm not the only one who answered deer season. How funny, I had a feeling all along that this was going to be ONE OF THOSE TRIVIAS. It's especially frustrating that the answer was SO CLOSE to the one I had. But it's even more frustrating that that was in fact the correct version of the answer and that the answer we were supposed to put was an outdated, incorrect answer.
xDD<br />
I put Cyber Monday.<br />
Woo!
Mumbles I'm not a happy bear ... I won't go over the reasons why this was a wrong choice for a trivia, cos it's all been said before.
Ahhhhh I put "Deer Season" T___T too many answers.
I'm sorry, but your answer of deer day for the trivia was incorrect.<br />
<br />
argh. the question was ambiguous, it had two "what"s and the first was about the DAY.
Your answer buck season for the trivia was correct! Youve been given an A Reindeer Calf and 1126sP<br />
<br />
Whoohoo..<br />
<br />
Ironically, this new Trivia took me FOREVER to find. xD
I entered Hunting Season. Never saw Buck Season in my search.
LOL Well, i knew it would be Buck Season, but I would like to point out, that, that is no longer correct, as said earlier by someone, a few years ago it used to be JUST Buck season, because that's all you could hunt was buck, then doe season came in later. Now you can hunt both Buck and Doe during the same season, and according to the PA Game Commissioners website, it's labled as Deer Season
Event! <br />
I'm sorry, but your answer of deer season for the trivia was incorrect. <br />

<br />
Good old Google my hide, since everywhere I saw deer season. -.-

<br />
...Go Jonquil! :3 What ever happened to there being multiple correct answers, anyway?
User not found:
PA used to have 2 seperate sasons. Buck and Doe but in 2006 they changed that and made then concurrent. <br />
<br />
http://www.pgc.state.pa.us/pgc/lib/pgc/deer/pdf/5_concurrent_season.pdf<br />
<br />
So buck season is no longer a correct answer. If it was before the year 2006 it would of been correct but it is no longer seperate seasons it's rifle-deer season because it's all male and female deer with a rifle. We also have an archery deer season.
I'm sorry, but your answer of deer season for the trivia was incorrect.<br />
<br />
We always got that day off in WV too since it was better than having school and only half the students and/or teachers showing up. We always called it deer season though not buck season.
Your answer buck season for the trivia was correct! Youve been given an A Reindeer Calf and 1126sP<br />
<br />
<br />
This one was quite easy, especially since the trivia asked to be "specific". Buck is more specific than deer.<br />
Good ol' Google.
I mean shoot... 8P
You're joking! xD I was thinking "Oh my goodness, kids aren't getting off to go shook deer." I'm such an idiot.

I'm sorry, but your answer of deer season for the trivia was incorrect. <br />
<br />
...
interesting... everywhere i looked online... PA school division calendars, google general search... all called it just "deer season"
I think Buck Season is the only time during the general hunting season when your allowed to shoot bucks. The rest of the season you're only allowed to shoot does. A buck is a male deer, a doe is a female deer (though you most likely already know that) A buck is a more specific type of deer, so that's what it meant by "be specific"

All the sites I hit had Buck Season as the specific answer when Googling the key words. I even found one that said something like here in PA the first day of deer hunting season is called Buck Season.

SO ASHAMED! I live in Pennsylvania! >.>;;<br />
<br />
Buck season. Blarg. I wanted that little reindeer, too. ;_;
meh got the other one very wrong... at least this seems easy =) hopes its can only be one answer this time
I think it's funny that it needs to be specific. I live in PA. Here if people say they are going hunting, mention the first monday or say it's the start of hunting season you assume it's deer. Only time they say specificaly what they are hunting something else. Ie; "I hunting turkey." "I'm going to hunt bear." I realize it has to be specific for the trivia program to run properly but that doesn't make it less ironic.
I'm sorry, but your answer of deer season for the trivia was incorrect. buck season??? never heard it called that anywhere thats crazy

Buck Day is the opening day of the rifle buck season in Pennsylvania; the Monday after Thanksgiving; many schools are closed; fathers and sons go to hunting ...<br />
<br />
I thought it was this because this is what I found after spending 45 minutes on google! <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_sad.gif" border="0" /><br />
<br />
goes to mope in corner
Thank you for re-using the prize DebiLee. I really need that little guy for my reindeer gallery.
not fair i am avid deer hunter we call it deer season nobody calls it buck season
My question is: If you don't live in Pennsylvania, how are you supposed to -know- their rules? ><img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_sad.gif" border="0" /> I had a heck of a time even figuring out that it was talking about deer gun season and not "Cyber Monday".<br />

I said deer season also.
I went through the PA school district listings and checked individual school website calenders to find 'buck season'. One did say 'hunting season' as well.
I'm sorry, but your answer of deer season for the trivia was incorrect.<br />
<br />
Everything I found said deer season...it's technically correct since that's the first day for being allowed to shoot both does and bucks, not just bucks.
A lot of Trivia suggestions are deleted because: a) they've already been used before, b) more than one user submitted the same question, c) the questions/answers pertain to certain specific users, such as who is my best friend, or who has a Spectrum Hikei and a Bloodred Kanis?, d) the answers are incorrect, e) the answers are subject to change prior to being used, such as how many species come in the color Galactic?, e) non math non Subeta related Trivias that aren't pertaining to holidays are never accepted, f) RIDDLES ARE NEVER ACCEPTED! XD (We get SO many of those! XD), g) they have several possible multiple answers, h) they're misspelled, such as who is the founder of Subeta? - Answer: Kieth, i) they're ridiculously easy, but have a suggested prize of a Reborn Potion, or something similar, j) they don't explain where the answer can be found, k) they use characters or symbols that the Trivia rejects, l) I just flat out don't understand them (some are worded so badly that I'm unclear as to exactly what they're asking).
Evy
-I'll probably re-use it next time so I don't forget.. I know me... XD-<br />
I don't think you need to worry about it, Debi, enough people will remind you about it, rofl! <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_grin.gif" border="0" />
Evy
I reasoned: hunting season is general, deer season is specific, blah!
Specific should have been Rifle Antlered Deer Season, but that was way too many words. Additionally the question not only had multiple possible, reasonable answers, but it also included two questions. I ended up going with Buck Day, because I found several references to that in terms of the school closing information and because in trying to figure out the second question, I just couldn't decide between buck or deer season, or even something like rifle deer. <br />
<br />
As to the argument of submitting good trivias, I have. I have submitted several, one was used many months ago. Have the files been lost? Should I resubmit, or would that be considered "Submiting bogus trivias will result in warnings or account suspension"?
User not found:
aww I put hunting season because I read it on a website about Pennsylvania. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_sad.gif" border="0" /> It hadn't specified "buck" on that particular site. bummer! That was a cute prize too. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif" border="0" />

PS - And obviously WI DNR has calculated that there are FAR too many does - they need A LOT of does taken out this year. If there are too many does and not enough bucks - the bucks go sterile and you get very few fawns in the spring. True story. That's why they regulate the taking of does and bucks. And adjust doe permits accordingly XD

high fives debi XD guess living in pa for ONCE paid off ?! XD
I'm wrong about PA doe permits because of how you do things in WI? O.o giggles
Pam
quote: So it's still actually Buck Season - PA just changed around the dates when they give out (and one can use) a Doe Permit, in limited numbers. Standard hunting licenses are for bucks ONLY. You still need a hunting license AND a Doe Permit (antlerless deer permit) for anything but a buck. Wait until the years when there aren't enough does - it happens. Then all BUT bucks will be illegal again.<br />
<br />
<br />
In Wisconsin where I live our hunting season ended on Sunday and we have what you call earn a buck...you have to shoot a doe before you can shoot a buck. So BlueGreenGrey you aren't correct when you say that.
Well i guess i don't know my own home state and i cooked and made coffee for the hunters that was all saying it wrong..hmm It dont matter i will have a chance at the trivia prize later on
It's interesting to notice, that just whenever people lament about questions being unfair for non-locals or non native speakers I kind of see the least problems in arriving at the right answer through reading properly and thinking thoroughly - but every time those prizes lose their comparative rarity, because they're being reused...<br />
I found hunting season, deer-hunting season, buck season, rifle season,... even bear season!!!<br />
... and picked the right answer nevertheless
I'm sorry, but your answer of deer season for the trivia was incorrect.<br />
<br />
grrr ;_; i so wanted that prize oh well
Bleh, I didn't find a single reference to "buck season," only deer season and hunting season. I figured that deer was more specific than hunting. I thought for sure I was right XP I'm glad the prize will be reused, though =)
Debi, are we back to the easy trivia? =P You said yesterday was the last one, because it was somewhat of a holiday..

See what happens people when you are civil and mature? Your points get taken much more seriously. Thanks Debi - that is very kind of you.<br />
<br />
I put bear season since I saw on the Pen Dept of Game (or what ever they call themselves; the official site) that this was the first day you could hunt bear. All the school calendars just said Local Holiday. What a sad reason to get out of school if you ask me. I grew up in the deep deep south and we didn't get out of school for huntin'. Somehow I don't feel so hick now!
(Your answer buck season for the trivia was correct! Youve been given an A Reindeer Calf and 1126sP)<br />
I was initially going to put deer season, but the word "specific" stopped me. I snooped around some hunting threads and all the hunters were having a big whoop about the start of "Buck Season" and on a recipe site people were sharing their memories about favourite ways to slice and dice their catch from "Buck Season". But I am glad DebiLee is going to reuse the little critter!
Thank you Debi! thats very cool of you =)

<img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_sigh.gif" border="0" /> Everywhere I looked it said deer season. Hopefully this trivia will be a learning experience. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif" border="0" />
BlueGreenGray, how do <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" /> Indeed a good opportunity to suggest that as a new possibility as sometimes things are ambiguous in these trivias. Thanks for the clarification though!
GRUMBLE Grumble grumble grrr<br />
resigned sigh<br />
<br />
ok, i've recovered. stupid deer season.<br />
<br />
thanks for the upcoming second shot at the prize, makes me feel like being grumbly is moot, and really, it's hard for me to be mad about not getting free stuff.

a correction: i got mixed up with phrases again - i did go for 'deer season' not 'deer hunt'
Erm, mallow - Trivias are judged right or wrong and prizes are awarded by a program, a script. That's why there is always ONE answer, and the tiniest of typos (even an accidental space before or after) gets it wrong. Debi never even SEES peoples' answers, and some say they answered funny stuff for Debi's amusement. The script can't handle more than one answer - but maybe that's something to suggest in the recode board? XD

I am a bit upset too. I did a little net search about this and found 4 phrases relevant to this trivia question: deer hunt, deer hunting, buck hunt and buck hunting. I went for deer hunt because the word 'deer' sounded, well say 'better' to me than 'buck' which has a more coloquial ring to it. Being not an American citizen and not living in America i am naturally aware that there are lots of other players like me on this site that are not acquainted with this phrase and can't possibly know which one of those phrases above, as found on the internet, are most commonly used and thusly having been chosen as the 'right' answer. So i strongly believe that this question should have allowed for more than one possible answer.

Not everyone lives in the states so how are they to know who changed what rules
wow I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that went for deer season - I thought I would be way off. The only things I could find on the net was 'Antler Deer Season' - so I couldn't understand why 2 words. Didn't find anything anywhere saying 'buck' <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_sad.gif" border="0" />
So it's still actually Buck Season - PA just changed around the dates when they give out (and one can use) a Doe Permit, in limited numbers. Standard hunting licenses are for bucks ONLY. You still need a hunting license AND a Doe Permit (antlerless deer permit) for anything but a buck. Wait until the years when there aren't enough does - it happens. Then all BUT bucks will be illegal again. <br /><br />But let's all thank Debi - because people were civil, even in their anger and (righteous) frustration - she'll reuse the prize before Christmas XD
All the sites I looked at said deer season not Buck,Ah well someone always gets it RIGHT

For the record, I'm not trying to argue, I'm just pointing out that I think both answers are correct. It matters very little in the long run, but I think people are totally justified in saying that the question was far too vague.
This trivia prize should be used again seen my brother still lives in Pa and still hunts deer
You need a hunting license for bucks too, ok! You can't be exclusive like that. And I am sorry, if I am one of those people who pulled it off of a reasonable site like the actual Pennsylvania state site (and saw the same on Wikipedia, not that I'm saying you should trust wikipedia o.o). Bottom line is, the season for hunting does AND bucks started. Screw the restrictions on it. That'd be like saying "What holiday falls in December?" and then not accepting Hanukkah as an answer because you have to be Jewish in order for it to apply, and thus is not as widespread as something as commercial as Christmas.
I was going to answer buck season, because in my state WV...the Monday before thanksgiving is the first day of buck season with a gun, but when I checked with PA's game commission it lists it as deer both anterless and antlered so I changed and went with deer season as buck would only be half right ...by the question stating be specific..I assumed...obviously incorrectly but never the less though it meant specific as to the species rather than say hunting season. This was a difficult question in that many sources googled or other wise point to 2 different acceptable answers while only one can be correct and it was only half right.
I'm sorry, but your answer of deer hunting for the trivia was incorrect.<br />
<br />
the site i went to called it deer hunting<br />
<br />
o well
The point that a few people are missing is that the Pennsylvania Game Commission CHANGED the rules on deer season in the year 2000. Until that time, bucks could be hunted for two weeks, followed by does for a period of 3 days. As of 2000, this was changed to a CONCURRENT firearms deer season that lasts for 2 weeks for BOTH antlered and anterless deer. You can download a PDF brochure at their website entitled "A New Tradition: Concurrent Seasons".

Can you tell us how many got it tonight? I see alot of ppl asking, but didnt see a number yet, unless ive overlooked it somewhere.
I'm not sure why it matters if you need a permit or not, how does that change the fact that the season for both starts on the same day?

Thats not right I'm from Sayre and Athens,Pa and the school's call it Buck Day when its deer season

And SierraRaven explained why it's <i>officially</i> deer and not buck.<br />

Sort of amuses me now to think of people complaining that this trivia was region-biased, then it turned out to be biased <i>against</i> the people living in the target region. Because anyone who actually lives here in grand Appalachia will tell you that DEER season begins the Monday after Thanksgiving.

OH and I just wanted to add, I did put deer season but almost put in rifle-buck season to be most specific, but I figured that would be wrong.<br />
But yeah, there are going to be a lot of really ticked off people when they see they got it wrong if they put in anything like that in for the answer.<br />
I've seen it happen too many times on other sites. There is almost a mutany and for one so vaigue as this one, there will be lots of bad things said and thrown around.
I actually just copied and pasted part of the trivia into the Google search engine and the first result that came up said Deer Season. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif" border="0" /> <br />
<br />
I'm not complaining. Maybe I didn't search hard enough. But I guess Deer Season was a bit better than just Hunting Season? <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif" border="0" /> (Kidding!)
Yes, you CAN ALSO shoot a doe (or antlerless) deer on Buck Day - IF you have a <strong>permit</strong> for it. The <strong>standard</strong> hunting license allows you to take Bucks only. Deer Season is too general. And it's not Doe Season If You Have A Permit. It's Buck Season.. or Does.. with permits.
K, I was a little annoyed that I was wrong, but I didnt freak out as bad as a few people did. LoL. I love that little minion, but with so many people after it, it was bound to be pricey. Thanks for re-using it Debi. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_grin.gif" border="0" />

Sorry, but if you wanted completely specific then you are wrong too. The correct answer there would be rifle-buck season with those two words hyphinated. That would be the most specific.<br />
I'm not going to cry over the fact that I missed this one, but I do have to say it's not fair at all and this was a HORRIBLE trivia!!!<br />
It would be easy to assume that when you said specific you ment deer season instead of just the general term hunting season.<br />
But anyway you'll do whatever you want cause it's not our say how this game is played. I just wanted to point out that this one was really horrible and there are going to be a lot of ticked off players.
Since there is a general sense of civility and politeness in the opinions being expressed, even the negative ones <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />, and, as I actually agree that there might be some confusion in non-English speaking countries to which deer and like animals are not native, while enough were actually won, it was still fewer than 1,000, so I'll re use this prize some time before Christmas. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />
"BGG explained why it's buck and not deer a few times already"<br />
<br />
Well that is fine and good, but several people have also repeatedly pointed out what the actual gaming commission website says and it includes Does as well as Bucks...so..say it with me...deer season is correct as the answer unless you want to say the PA gaming commission doesn't know what they call their own day in their own state and what they are allowed to kill on said days.
Well, this is what I found when I searched :<br />

And YES - look at their bits! if you can't see antlers, and you don't have the right permit, DON'T shoot it. O.O!
Google or not....it's deer season in PA. It lasts for 2 weeks. The first 3 days you can take buck or doe, then for the remainder of the two weeks only buck. So it is DEER season
Yeah Ariel, I was also on that exact wavelength.. unfortunately I answered the wrong question. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_sad.gif" border="0" /> I submitted Buck Day as my answer.. as that is what I thought it was asking.. the name of the first day of what.. bleh. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_sad.gif" border="0" /> ish sad

All of the non-US residents who didn't get this one...don't feel bad. I live in Missouri and I got it wrong as well.(Deer season for the record). So, no, it wasn't a "if you live in the USA you will know this" type of question. We all used google just like you most likely did and most of us got it wrong too from what I am seeing. The question was just plain bad as it had multiple answers that were correct no matter how many times we were told to be specific...deer season was correct per the actual gaming commission of the state and rifle season would also have been correct. It was just a bad trivia in general...IMO.

Okay... the site I went to said nothing about it being buck season, but antlered deer season. I guess I'm just retarded and a buck isn't a deer, apparently. o_o;
I went for buck, because that's a special deer (male) and therefore more "specific". <br />
Off to find the cool items <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif" border="0" />
Also, this was a google-able answer. It doesn't matter where you live, you can google it. As you see, even plenty of Americans got it wrong.
You have to have a <strong>special permit</strong> to bring down a doe or antlerless deer, though. You only need a standard hunting license to shoot a buck on that day. That's why it's Buck, not Deer.
Okay, the only complaint that can't be made about this trivia is the region, EVERYONE has access to a search engine. Therefore fair game... like the bucks and the does in PA gigglefits again
You feel cheated because you put the exact answer into google and it didn't work? Haha.
I found plenty sites that said Buck Season.<br />
<br />
"Buck Day is the opening day of the rifle buck season in Pennsylvania; the Monday after Thanksgiving; many schools are closed; fathers and sons go to hunting camp"<br />
<br />
http://www.startwright.com/york,pa.htm<br />
<br />
That sent me on my specific "buck" search. I found plenty more that had that monday as Buck Day, which was the start of, dun dun dun, Buck Season!

Gah! I got another trivia wrong. That last one was just misleading. I looked all over and only saw the answer I put, which was deer season. I am unhappy, but I will survive. So what are the stats on this trivia?
As a 20 year Pennsylvania resident, I have to agree with the facts (as stated in the posts below) that buck season is not the accurate name for the day. It definitely isn't what I know to be the most common name for it here. <br /> Oh well...on to the next one. Subeta related. Easy. Pretty prize. I put the question into google:<br />
<br />
In the US, in the state of Pennsylvania, what somewhat unusual day is given off school every year as a holiday today, the first Monday after Thanksgiving: the first day of... what?<br />
<br />
<br />
and came up with a a site saying deer season. I feel cheated.<br />
This is a quote from a local CBS affiliate TV station in Pennsylvania (WHP) for Nov. 26, 2007: "Close to a million Pennsylvania deer hunters were up before the sun Monday. Each was hoping to bag a buck or a doe on the first day of the two-week rifle season." http://www.whptv.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=38297287-20ce-4bed-b4ac-8901b9d4a130&rss=50<br />
<br />
Notice the terms, "bag a buck or a doe".
By this logic, if buck season was the correct answer, doe season should've been an acceptable answer too. Because hunting of -both- started yesterday. So the answer should've been either buck season AND doe season, OR deer season. Not one or the other.

I'm sorry but that last trivia was unfair to all those of us who don't reside in the US. I'm in Australia and I don't know anyone who lives in that State of the US. Please don't ask such regionally specific questions in future.

<br />
Actually, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission website, it's "Deer (Antlered and Antlerless)":<br />
<br />

I agree, there should be multiple acceptable answers for a trivia like this. I figured that by specific, it meant deer as opposed to hunting. I doubt most people would find that answer and think that they had to get more specific.
Yay! I got it right :3
So how many were released? XD
Actually, I'm all for teaching the kids - every MI kid has to have Hunters Safety to be allowed to hunt. Education is the key - teach the kids how to carry a gun, how to <strong>respect</strong> the gun and the others in the woods. It's not the same as inner-city kids grabbing handguns and taking them to school to shoot the Math teacher that flunked them or the kids in Social Studies who tease them constantly. Not the same at all. One is respectful, one is anything but <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_grin.gif" border="0" />

Yayzorz! Now to get this one. :3
Bummer. xD After digging through all the articles about "Cyber Monday," deer was the first thing I came across and buck never even crossed my mind. Oh well. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />
Well, I taught Spanish last year in a somewhat rural school, and the first day of hunting season my classes were really empty, which was a nightmare for the secretaries, so it is pretty smart to just give everyone the day off <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif" border="0" />
If you want to get technical, bucks can be taken earlier in the season if they've a small enough rack to be tagged as a doe. So really, the season should be more based off of the type of weapon and/or how many points a buck are. Overall, I found this trivia to be poorly worded, a worrisome trend that usually gets me to quit attempting trivias for weeks at a time.
Also, I love how morbidly ironic the last prize was, hahah.
I thought that it was asking for the Holiday name, since there is really only one name for that and when I read the question it seemed like that was what it was asking for... then LilithFaire pointed out that it could be asking for either, and Debi clarified... but it was all too late for me, as I had already answered Buck Day <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif" border="0" />
Your right on the resonaing it out BGG. And, Nov 15 in Mi ..yuppers. What I find odd is ... let the kids have a day off to go out and be taught to shoot ...then pray they dont bring them back to the schools. Little odd to me .. but, im just, me. LOL

I thought buck is only American English, so it's not linguisticly specific XD<br />
<br />
That's what I found on my dictionary:<br />
<br />
The adult male of some animals, such as the deer, antelope, or rabbit.<br />
<br />
I did thought of adding Buck Season before I saw that. But then it made me think buck can also be male antelope or rabbit (actually here we generally reffers male rabbit to a buck), and you said be specific. Plus, it got far less results on google too. So I choosed deer, lol.<br />
<br />
Anyway, it's already done and done, I guess I'll just buy that prize in trade :p<br />
<br />
Now onto next trivia.
uggggggg.... I looked it up and the PA news paper (dont remember which one now) said DEER season. bummer. =P
when I answered the trivia I went to the PA game commission web site...it states both antlered and antlerless deer season started November 26th...buck season would only make it half right then...the official start of gun season although I answered deer season...gun deer season would have been the most correct but that is 3 words not 2.

I second-guessed myself into a huge headache for nothing. whew Let me see if I can explain my own reasoning... Deer Season is too general - and wrong... bow hunters were bagging deer for weeks. Hunting Season? WAY general - hunting what? Been hunting all sorts of critters for a long time.. small game, bear, fowl, blah blah. I was scared it should be Rifle Season - 'cuz this is when the guns come out. But I was right the first time - it's called Buck Season - because this is when the majority of hunters are allowed to take their guns out into the woods and bag a buck (not a doe, at least not without a permit) - AFTER they've bred for the year. Much sooner than this, and they don't have enough babies next spring, because hunters killed too many bucks too soon. So that's why it's called Buck Season. First Monday after Thanksgiving in PA, apparently. But it's always on November 15th in Michigan. Rural schools here have Opening Day off too... In fact, I have never attended school on Nov 15th - except the two Nov 15th's when my family lived in CA. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />

You know what, I understand why ppl are upset. I got Buck season and AFTER entering it, I was SURE the answer was going to be DEER and was "stewing" about it all day. Had it ended up being Deer I would have been ticked. So, I see why ppl are upset. It clearly had 2 answers and After finding Buck, Deer came up quite a bit more .. I just lucked out in being hasty ...
I was going to put Buck Season, but that answer was only true up until a couple years ago. The Pennsylvania Game Commission changed the rules and now Nov. 26th is the first day of both antlered (buck) and anterless (doe) season. You just need 2 separate licenses. Quote from the PGC: "DEER (Antlered and Antlerless) Statewide: Nov. 26-Dec. 8. One antlered deer per hunting license year. An antlerless deer with each required antlerless license."

My answer was 'deer season'. XDD meh.
I can't say that I'm a fan of the last trivia.. it was poorly presented... but it's over and onto the next one... This is also why I hate non-related trivia.
I find it interesting that one article that I read said that up until 2006 it was called "buck season" but it is now called "deer season" because up until then you were only allowed buck on this day and doe were on another day. Now it has changed. (Yes I answered deer season)

Eww @ last trivia, not very happy about that one.<br />
This one is easy though, love the lizard.
Lmao, wow guys. It's just a trivia. No need to get your panties up in a twist about it. I got it wrong too, big whoop.

Argh, where did you guys find it?
For those who don't think there's a difference between a deer and a buck--google.

Mother Bucker ;( goes to trades
I'm sorry, but your answer of deer season for the trivia was incorrect. I wondered if it wasn't incorrect...but actually buck season is incorrect as well since buck season for archery began on Sept 29...technically the specific answer should have been Deer buck and doe gun season...or gun deer season since doe started as well for gun. Deer season was the most correct for two word answer because it was not only buck season that started...but buck and doe for gun.
this one did have more than one answer
It did say be specific. It isn't the first day of the season for all types of deer, nor with all weapons. It's Buck Season. Alternatively, it's Antlered Deer Season, but that's too many words.
Eehh? <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/smiley_sadface.gif" border="0" /> All the sites I went to said Deer Season, and thats what I put... Guess thats what I get for hating Pennsylvania. xD

Awww. Not fair at all! I live in PA and our school said we had off for deer season, not buck season. I thought when you said be specific, you meant the kind of animal, not the gender. Ehhhhh. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/smiley_sadface.gif" border="0" />

Well, actually I got that in my research too, but it got far less results then deer season on google, and I thought 'buck' is the less specific term then 'deer' :/<br />
Guess I'm just... unlucky ._.
I Hate the triva.This is total BULL the answer was clearly stated on google so I should of gotten it RIGHt.<br />
<br />
STOP putting trivas that have more then one answer. Its total BULL and so unfair to us<br />
Looks like another trivia where multiple solutions would have been a neat feature to have coded into the game. <img src="http://images.subeta.org/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" /> I've failed by putting "deer season" as well.

I guessed deer season because almost every site said it was "deer season". Only one said "buck season" and i almost put that.. but no.. i went with what the majority said. I really wanted that little calf, too. This trivia question wasn't too hard.. the answer was just too easy to miss because of what would come up in the search.
lolwht.<br />
<br />
how is a Deer any different from a Buck? XD

I'm sorry, but your answer of deer hunting for the trivia was incorrect.<br />
<br />
I copied it right off the trivia page about Penn.
I put deer season too. I'm really upset now, I liked that little guy. Deer...buck...same thing when it all comes down to it. That's really not fair...all the sites I saw said deer season, and one of them said hunting season.

But 'buck season' isn't the official term. TT_____TT
Buck season was correct..<br />
At least from what I saw on google.
No, it isn't just deer season; that's too general. Bow season for deer is prior to this.
Awww...man! I said deer season. Now I have to go buy A Reindeer Calf.
OH gosh..i guessed cyber monday... I guess i better htink twice before listening to wikipedia again...

Umm, I don't think so! I've lived in PA for this event, and everyone calls it deer season. I've never even heard of the term "buck season".
The ones I found said DEER. I never saw one that said Buck. how were we supposed to figure out which one you meant?
Whut. Deer season is incorrect? O_o Well, then. that was a bad question. 'be specific'? Ooh, that's a lot of help. e_e
