it's very popular in Louisiana and East Texas of course, but not in the rest of the US. When I lived in Arkansas I was very sad every Mardi Gras because I'm Louisianan by birth and raised in East Texas.

No, they were almost all retired, there were just a few stragglers, so I re-posted that all should hopefully be now retired.

Mardi Gras or Martedì Grasso, as we call it here, in Italy is the end of the carnival...the last day of feast before th "easter period" (sorry but I really don't know how to translate the religious terms! :s)
It's like a day when everything can be done, a day of parties, masquerades and extreme fun before a period of restrictions and privation (for who believes in the traditional catholic rituals..^^').
I live near Venice and I can assure you that Mardi Gras it's really known in Italy!
(well...half of Venezia's shops are shops of masks! :S )
I really love that period....also because we cook especially good sweet things during the Carnival, and that tuesday is the last day you can eat them :S
...well...I hope my comment is not too chaotic... ^^'

I live in the US and I didn't know about it for a long time. It seemed obscure to me- I think it's because it didn't have any real meaning to me for a while. Like Cinco de Mayo and St. Patrick's day, it was just an excuse to party for the people who I live with.

I only know about Mardi Gras because we have a similar holiday in Brazil, the famous carnaval.

I guess it's because I'm from New Orleans, but how can you not know what Mardi Gras is? o_O *shakes head sadly*

Yay! Got just about all the Mardi Gras stuff and extra in my Wardrobe too. It's about time too.

I'd never heard of Mardi Gras till a few years ago. None of my friends know it though.

Mardi Gras is well known, yeah, but not in Europe. So that'd be why. I'd barely heard of it before I joined Subeta, and I live in Sweden.

Nian isn't any of the three holidays mentioned. There might be other items and holidays yet to be retired.

Nite - You, as with the rest of the subeta population had enough time to get them :X

Plus, they are also still in user shops for a low amount of sP.
